Welcome Sydney Curry!
-
What a great snag! Curry is gifted and with size. He’ll bring a big punch to our post game!
-
@drgnslayr And we could definitely use that. Dave needs to bigtime slow down, because at this point his anticipation skills are hardly non-existant. Looking forward to Curry joining the team next year. Please don’t try to join us this year. Sorry, Silvio has kind soured me on mid-season add ons.
-
Make KU screen and dunk again.
-
@BShark am I the only one that didn’t know there’s another curry?
-
And how about a guy who can dance in the paint? YES! My kind of big!
-
-
Bossi just called this kid a “mauler” and a “defensive end in the paint”. YES PLEASE.

might be a little better then I thought - - that would be nice, - -Wish I could see a litle more highlight on the defensive & rebounding side in video
-
Nothing to do with Curry but just read where Baker is leaving Texas -atta boy Shaka lmao - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
He’s a really good rebounder, but that won’t make the highlights. He got that rebounding average while that team also had a 7’2’’ guy.
-
@BShark Saw too where with the new rules he’s actually going to be able give us three years - a bigtime plus. I see him starting for us next year.
-
-
Is Curry going to be able to have 3 years of eligibility for us ?
-
@jayballer67 That’s what I read somewhere, three years. Sorry, should’ve posted the link. Forgot where I read it

Yes. This year doesn’t count so he’ll have 4 to play 3
-
Good to know - - loos like he can muscle up - -good size loves to finish

Lots of talk about recruiting over him because of how Tyon went, but yeah, all talk. He will sign with KU.

looks like he is signing Wednsday
-
Sydney was not brought in to be an immediate impact player for KU. KU has the option to redshirt him and with KU already having Dave, Cam, and Mitch at the 5 spot, it’d make a lot of sense to reshirt Curry this season and let him develop out of the spotlight because he has insane athleticism for a man of his build.
-
I think we could have done a lot better with that scholarship, so he better be good. That’s all I’m going to say.
-
Looked at his stats today. Dude averaged 4 offensive boards per game mostly off the bench. Dude is a machine. And rebounding is one of those things that translates. Will be nice to have since Dave is a poor rebounder for his size.

its’s good your quiet - -kid is an Absolute STUD
-
I’m not going to count on JUCOs. If he does much it is a bonus IMO. His stats are good and he has some tools at least.
-
Really scared he will be unplayable… Think he could be a black hole on offense and get lost on D.
But man does he make moving 275 lbs look easy. If he can give us 15 good minutes a game we will be dirty.
-
Assist numbers show he’s a willing passer, 2.1 a game, 3 games so far with 4, only one game where he didn’t have a single assist.
But I think the biggest scare is skill level. There is some full game streams on youtube if your interested. Think he’ll have to redshirt and get in shape and learn how to play at this level…
-
@BeddieKU23 can he give us any minutes? We just need to not have to play Mitch
-

Bill has really only played Mitch as a last resort. If Jalen comes back I think we will be completely fine in the front court. I actually think the D2 kid looks better than Mitch. We should have enough bodies to not play Mitch.
-
If we get second half of the yr jalen, not so good! Same as CB!
-
Jalen would quite possibly be our best player next year, maybe leading scorer.
-
I don’t think so currently. Maybe that changes in 6 months… And you really have to question again, why take this JUCO if he can’t help you this upcoming season. Love how big/athletic he is. We’ll see what talk comes of him this offseason
-
I’m just thinking possibly - -Curry just might surprise

I’m pretty sure Cam Martin is the person you’re trying to describe here and not Curry.
KU currently has 4 players who play the 5 spot as their primary position. 2 of them (Lightfoot and Martin) will be gone after 2022. A third (McCormack) could be gone and will after 2 more years for sure. That leaves KU with only Sydney Curry at the moment in 2023-24.
If Cam Martin never plays a meaningful minute for Kansas, that’s the wasted scholarship, not Sydney Curry because Cam Martin is coming to KU as a grad transfer with only 2021-22 to play. Sydney Curry is coming to KU with 3 years of eligibility left along with the option to redshirt (which I think happens next season) and not lose a season eligibility.
Sydney Curry was brought in with the idea of him being David McCormack’s long term replacement. Curry committed to KU well before Martin so Self and staff actively sought out Martin presumably with the intention of Martin backing up McCormack this upcoming season.
If Curry doesn’t develop as expected next season, move on and nothing is really lost since he wasn’t expected to contribute next season anyway. Cam Martin was specifically brought in for the purpose of backing up McCormack next season otherwise it would make no sense to tie up a scholarship on a one year rental that wasn’t expected to play.

Goodbye Sydney Curry! Reopening his recruitment.

Wow.
-
Bill be like
-
I’ll be honest, some of this feels like change for change’s sake. We’ll definitely be able to score better, but defensively… woof.
-
@FarmerJayhawk if anyone can make it work defensively it’s Bill. Gonna be some wild games though no doubt.
-
Thank God. He was not a KU level player
-

I’d be fine with not recruiting JUCOs anymore.
-
So assuming everyone makes it to Lawrence - Remy, Yes, OA, Jalen, Dave starting and Harris, Pettiford, Braun, JCL, Cam off the bench? Feel least confident about Yes starting, but pretty sure about those other 4. Clemence, Adams, Cuffe not seeing a ton of minutes and are candidates to redshirt. Mitch just enjoying life. Not a ton of defense but should be a lot of buckets.
-
Bet that a bunch will transfer if they have to redshirt
-

I hope not don’t need a BUNCH to bail

Sign of the times. No loyalty to programs anymore when you have a free transfer year now
-
Does anyone in here think our recruiting is done for next year? lol
-

Not really loyalty when there was little or no choice. The coaches will need to work on making kids understand the benefits of staying in a program.
Much better than, “Sorry, kid. You signed a LOI back in HS, so suck it up or lose a year.”
When loyalty is forced on coaches and schools in honoring contracts, I will lament kids being disloyal.
-
I’m with @mayjay here. Bill literally just forced a signed kid out (that was ALL IN on KU on social media) and it’s almost June…
-
Does make you wonder… did Bill tell Curry he might want to consider transferring… or did Curry figure this out by himself that he wouldn’t see the floor much this coming season? Or is this a sign that none of the 3 guys considering leaving are leaving? Or is Bill still recruiting for next year?
I think #3 is a definite and we will probably see another addition coming. With the portal still probably bringing some activity for the next few months it is hard to think Bill is done.
-
@jayballer67 I’m onboard with Curry, and he has pretty solid handles. Can probably play some 4 too.
