  @JayHawkFanToo Completely agree on Hoiberg. I doubt he ever pursues the NBA. However, if he were asked to coach the national team, he may consider it (I don’t know enough about the current state of his health), and his style of coaching is a better fit than Self’s style. @Lulufulu The University Games team was selected based on colleges that expressed interest in competing. KU was selected over the other applicants. Because this isn’t a team selected from around the country, I think it is a different sort of thing. Perhaps USA Basketball will use this to evaluate Coach Self for a future role, but I think the guys I listed yesterday have the inside track, particularly Donovan. I agree that he and Pop are close, but Jerry Colangelo is currently on the Board of Directors, along with Chauncey Billups and others. They will select a new board after next year’s Olympics, but the current board make up doesn’t give Self the inside track.

  @Lulufulu If that argument is true, then it was unfair when UCLA was just as stacked during their run in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Saying it’s unfair that some schools get better recruits than others just doesn’t hold merit to me. KU gets better recruits than K-State does. Is that unfair to K-State? K-State gets better recruits than UMKC. Is that unfair to UMKC? All of those schools are D1 schools within 150 miles of each other, but their recruiting bases are very different. That’s the nature of college athletics. When you have recruiting, you have a chance to have some teams that have tons of talent and others that can’t ever hope to land that sort of talent. There are 350 D1 teams and about 12-15 truly elite players in each class. Even if every single elite player went to a different school every year, there would be schools that would not land an elite player for over 2 decades. If Bo Ryan is mad that he can’t get elite recruits to Madison, that’s on him as a recruiter.

  @JhawkAlum You are right, he did not even come close to being 15-10 player in the weak Conference USA, there is no way he does that in the Big 12.

  @jaybate-1.0 It’s a race to the money. All the fast-twitch muscle isn’t being coached to learn the skills of basketball, it is being coached to chase the fast money. It doesn’t teach our kids how to play the game at all so you wind up having players that are big and they bring it up and they do all this fancy crap and they don’t know how to post. They don’t know the fundamentals of the game. It’s stupid.”” Kobe: Europe’s players more skillful Americans are junkies to athleticism, not skillfully played basketball. You won’t see a kid playing the game mimicking smart finishes at the rim with the other hand, you see them trying to windmill dunk while his dad looks on marveling because his kid has some hops. Look at a player like Kelly Oubre. He has excellent athleticism and a body built by the basketball Gods… but the kid can only go left. He didn’t finish with his right hand ONCE as a Jayhawk! That alone is reason for that kid to return for year 2. Do you think his long reach is going to save him in the league? He is about to learn a big lesson at the next level… it’s called “hedge defense”… something never even mentioned in college ball. He is going to be hedged right out of 90% of his drives at the next level. The kid better learn to go right or his game is toast. I can barely stomach college basketball today. I watch because of my competitive nature. But every time my brain engages in a game, I become sickened by the empty tool box these kids bring to the game. Kansas should hire Bobby Knight as an assistant. His only job will be to teach these kids what a shot fake is. And while he is at it, he can teach them the other 10 or so fakes that can be used in a game. Bobby’s motto will shift off the known “shake and bake” to “fake and bake.”

  @Crimsonorblue22 Kentucky not winning and their system not getting the validation it wanted makes KU’s early exit a little less painful. Hopefully the Summer games will be wildly successful and set the tone for next season.

  @JayhawkRock78 I did too but my name was not selected which would not have been a problem but one time one of our young engineers names got called while he was boarding a plane for Memphis. Back then, mid 90s, most people did not have cell phones with e-mail so we had to have the airline intercept him while deplaning and had to make arrangements for him to go straight to an approved lab. before his meeting; a royal PITA.

  How could they not interview charmers and Collins ? That was easily the greatest clutch shot ever seen in a NT game !!! And 97, oh man I had to go outside and collect myself for at least 30 minutes. That was agony on a sports level I’ve never come close too since. The VCU game was also high up there because we had no business losing that game. All of it is why I love this tournament and college basketball so much.

  @drgnslayr If I understand correctly, the NCAA can punish KU if they can prove that it was aware of the situation and let Alexander play anyway. From what I read, KU was as surprised as the rest of us and as soon as it was notified it sat Alexander. At this time and based on what I have read, I believe KU is in the clear…but then, I have no access to any inside information, only what is openly available.

  @JRyman First, I hope you are feeling better. The question is difficult in KU’s case because the Conference Championship is one more building block in a run to break the all time record for Conference Championship in a row, an accomplishment that without exception all sport analysts consider to be a monumental accomplishment that will mean more than one single NCAA Title. A conference title represents continuous excellence throughout a season while a final four run involves having the right match ups and a good deal of luck…does anyone saw MSU making it to the Final Four or ConU…I mean UConn winning it all last year? I certainly did not and it took a lot of luck to get there.

  @JayHawkFanToo I see what you are saying and agree that the African American community needs to purge this word from the vocabulary. However, the analogy you used, of a white person saying the exact same thing about a black player is not entirely accurate. If Harrison would have used a derogatory word for white people in his comment, then it would be. I think in that scenario it would be a bigger deal, but still not as big as it would have been the other way around. Just the way it works in the minority vs majority dynamic I guess.

  @JayHawkFanToo Yeah… I think Kentucky is more scary next year and the year after that. I’m guessing the twins will leave Lexington with diplomas. Actually, I have a high degree of respect for the twins. Kentucky has some spoiled rotten super studs… but the twins have not had the easy road to where they’ve gone. They mostly just had size and athleticism going for them, but over the years they have received the very best coaching possible (and needed it) (BTW: not Cal)… for example, they have been with John Lucas since the 8th grade. Those guys have worked their butts off and will continue to improve every year. The real catch for Cal will have been the twins. I know everyone is bagging on them… but those guys get better and better and they bring experience to the team. Now… they will carry a definite chip. Take the constant away from Kentucky (the twins) and lets see how they do!
