  @justanotherfan That is way too spot on. I was a kicker in HS. I could hit a 50 yarder in practice and warming up. Longest FG I ever hit in game was 26 yards. It is a whole different ball game live. You have to have 3 guys all do nerve-racking things and do them with perfect timing. The snapper, holder and kicker are all nervous. It also didn’t help that I was a lineman and my legs were pretty much toast by the end of the game. Pretty hard to get juice on the ball when you’ve played 4 quarters in the trenches.

  @Texas-Hawk-10 I thought Bender showed the most poise and he played against most of the players expected to start on defense. He had our best receivers too. I’ll have to watch the replay to see how the lines fared against each other. The sacks are overstated since all it took was a touch on the QB. I didn’t see some of the touches, but, the refs were much closer, so I accept their calls. The point was to keep players healthy, so I’m glad the touches were closely called. I was surprised by all the running plays called on third downs. I really wanted to see our QB’s complete some third down passes. Our starting QB must be able to extend drives this year.

  Many thanks to Crimson for the stats. Those are very helpful and show just how many receivers we have who will make plays for us this year. The no contact rule on the QB’s makes sense, but I sure thought the refs saw some phantom touches and stopped plays too early. I was rooting for the offense on every play and probably overlooked the defensive efforts throughout the game. We must improve on offense to become competitive. I was especially focused on the third down plays. Sadly, I didn’t see any improvement there. On defense, the only mistake I saw was the receiver getting 5 yards behind the defense on Starks’s TD pass. Otherwise, all the receivers were well covered and pass completions were hard to come by. Finally, if the offensive stats are underwhelming to you keep in mind the game was very short due to the running clock. The game was over in less than 2 hours and the teams took a normal amount of time for half time. Kansas football in April is great. Now, I’m looking forward to Kansas basketball in August. RCJH

  “Brandon deserved better, he was unlucky”. Truer words have not been said, I was amped for his senior year before the ACL injury. I think he could’ve been a great back. I understand his pain it’s so hard to have your body let you down. I always feel connected to our players, they really do mean a lot to me.

  @Kcmatt7 3 guys pushing each other is only going to make them all better. Returning a young OLine mostly in tact while adding Baldwin is going to give KU a much improved OLine. Charlot gives KU a legit 3rd weapon so teams can’t run cover 2 all day to slow down Sims and Quiv. This is the year we see the offense begin to take significant steps forward. I’m not quite ready to call for a bowl bid yet, I think that’s next year, but I think KU getting bowl eligible this year is more likely than only winning 1 or 2 games is as well. I think KU wins 4 or 5 this year.

  @justanotherfan Idk that I agree with that. You may put a ceiling but you are also building a floor. Once you build the floor then you can reach here and there. But you don’t want to go back to being a laughing stock. I’d be happy to be a 5-8 win team every single season. Where at least I feel like we could win any given weekend. Reaching for the stars is what got us in this mess in the first place. Competing for recruits against UT, OU, Nebraska, Baylor, TCU, LSU, etc. is not going to be something we do well. But if we build a program and stick to it for an extended period of time maybe then we can earn some respect. And turn that respect into some additional recruits. Lets become the best football program in our own state before we start trying to recruit with the big boys out of state. And start dominating the in state recruiting battle. To me, that would be a big step. We need to be the team landing Jordy Nelson’s and Tyler Locketts. (KU and KState were the only two seriously interested in both of these guys). That alone is a major step forward from where we are.
