KU vs. dook
-
Hurt is listed at 215 pounds and the scouting report on his recruiting page mentions that he needs to get a lot stronger. His ability to stretch the floor and shoot from the perimeter is going to be a problem, but he’s also going to get manhandled by De Sousa if he goes anywhere near the basket.

A+++ post
-
There are only three ways I see the game being even a little close.
- Jones controls the game on both ends, causing havoc on D while getting the other young guys good looks.
- Hurt or Moore just shoot the ball lights out. Like a 30 burger.
- They go zone and we can’t find a way to score.
Here’s how I see the game going: Duke’s young guys come out strong. Bill gets pissed and calls a timeout down 11-3 after Jones gets a steal and a breakaway. We start feeding Doke and DeSousa. Carey picks up a couple of quick fouls and is out 6 minutes into the game. They start doubling down low, but then Moss and Wilson hit a couple of 3s. We storm back, taking a commanding lead 38-30 with 4 minutes left.
At this point, K, realizing he is about to get ran out of this gym, fakes a heart attack and gives up on the season like he did a few years ago when they were terrible. KU goes on to win by 20.

Kansas is going to destroy Duke. Imagine Hurt trying to compete with rebounds with Silvio. It’s going to be like watching LeBron take out Delonte West.

It was all fun and games until Hurt got tea bagged…

@rockchalkuncsux yeah Silvio helped take out Bagley and Wendell Carter in the Elite Eight. Hurt is toast.
-
Anyone confirm yet if the Hurts & Stanley’s found the Zion pad?? I assume someone has to keep the lights on

True the dad’s ego’s couldn’t possibly fit in 1 pad.

Underrated aspect of this class is that the craziest parent is mama Braun and she isn’t toooo bad. The Wilsons seem very realistic about where Jalen is at and McBride is extremely grounded.
Guess we just don’t know much about Enaruna at all in this regard. We really haven’t had any problems with foreign players in this situation though. Diallo situation involved “handlers”.
-
Oh my god, was this a zero handlers class? @FarmerJayhawk do you know anything about Enaruna in that regard?

It does appear this class lacks any ego or potential issues going forward. Hopefully the kids are happy here. I would love to see all 4 here at least 3 years and I think that’s a good possibility. We could be looking at the future core that leads to glory- Virginia’s core that won the title this year was built in similar manner

As far as Enaruna, no. I do know Braun’s recruitment was handled by the JoCo yoga moms. I think we had to back up the Brinks truck full of Starbuck’s and Barefoot wine.

Now that’s a reply for the ages! Well done, @FarmerJayhawk !

@BeddieKU23 I was glad we didn’t get Stanley. That’s too much icing on the cake for my liking.

Wait a minute… how many points are coming back for Duke? 10? This is a team full of newbies… right? And we get them early?
I see a beat down coming.

I see a beat down coming. wish I could agree with you on that , I think we can beat them all right - but beat down? - probably not - -more likely any where tops from 9-11 points tops

You know, just for the hell of it, I’m giving a final score - KU 84, Duke 76
-
Kansas 82 Duke 68
-
Screw Duke! …That is all.
-
I think it’ll be a 15 point game. KU flavor of course
-
Guess I need to define “beat down.”
When it comes to Duke, I consider anything over 10 to be a beat down. That amount shows some level of superiority whereas a 2-point victory seems more circumstantial and less about superiority.

Well you prediction % just took a major hit with making that kind of prediction - -how’s your day working for ya man lol
-
@jayballer73 Say what? I pick the winner of KU games at 82%, which happens to be Coach Self’s winning percent. In other words, I pick KU to win every game. I just threw the final score out there because I want us to kick Dook’s ass. My final score predictions pretty much suck overall so I don’t track those ( although I have come within 1 or 2 points of the final score on a few occasions). I only track the stat that makes me look good. BTW, the NCAA penalties, if we get busted, will not kick in until at least 2020/2021 :

They’re made in test tubes in New Jersey.

Duke has an acceptance rate of 8.6%. That means their basketball players are elite students. We should be impressed by them.
I’m not impre$$ed.

Little secret: a lot of students (including basketball players) take intro classes at NC Central, a HBCU in Durham.

@wissox Common misconception. Their athletes have different academic standards.

This article is old but afaik still accurate.

What, you’re telling me that athletes get preferred treatment to get into an elite academic institution that they otherwise would have no chance at gaining entry, just because they get an athletic scholarship?
Hmmm.
-
@HighEliteMajor just because it’s private vrs state college? Am I reading that right?

I don’t think that’s it.
From the article:
It’s a world-class private institution with the admissions flexibility of, say, a state school.
I think he’s saying that while you’d expect private institutions to have very rigid high standards of excellence in academics, Duke in fact has very flexible admissions standards, similar to what you might expect at a state school.
-
@approxinfinity I’m aware of the different standards. It used to crack me up. There was this big doofus I taught that had one attribute Duke liked. He was 6’5" and 300 pounds! I used to see recruiting letters for him from Duke. Used to crack me up because Nick barely graduated, had to beg for extra work the week before graduation just so he could pass my class! I will say, he grew up a lot (not physically!) and ended up playing football at Memphis and actually graduated college so he pulled it together!
-
rockchalkwyo said:

Yes and no. Private schools have a lot of leeway in who they accept and why. State schools less so. Stanford doesn’t take academic exceptions, dook does because they can stash the kid at NCCU for any “hard” classes. To my knowledge, UNC cannot make exceptions for people who wouldn’t get in otherwise. I know it’s been a frustration for Roy over the years.

I gotcha. Thanks guys
