I am cautiously optimistic about winning Monday night.

1. Our defense works better against the Heels. I don’t think they have played many tough defenses this season. Bill Self was always tough against the North Carolina type of transition offense. When Self was in IL, Roy’s teams had always struggled to score against Self. Of course, KU’s defense owned N. Carolina under Self.
   2.North Carolina’s defense looks rather soft especially with dribble penetration. We have 3 decent players who can drive downhill: CB, Wilson, and Remy. They can totally disrupt the Carolina D. (Ochai can also drive, but he lacks the aggressiveness…same with his shooting.)
2. The refs. If we get the same crew as the the one did the Villi game, we would own N. Carolina. I think KU was only called for 8 to 10 fouls the whole game against a Villinova offense designed to move, penetrate and draw fouls. It’s incredible. Bill Self’s team, above all else prides itself on playing tough and sometimes physical defense. If the refs are going to let them play, advantage KU.
3. Hubbie is less experienced. He did a great job this far, but Self has been here before and coaching matters in a pressurized game. Adv. KU. RCJHGKU!!!

40 pts and 19 rebounds in the two Final Four Games, Dave should have been the tournament MVP. You are right; Dave showed up big at the most crucial moment with that offensive rebound and put-back.

When Judy was here, the strength coach get lots of credit, e.g. “after Hudy work on him for a couple of years…”, “we need to have Hudy work on him,”, etc. I haven’t heard much about our new strength coach. I don’t even remember his name even though I read an article about him. But look at Doke this season; he has become a force on defense being lighter, more agile, and with an improved endurance. Kudos to the seldom-mentioned new strength coach.

K State wants to beat KU so badly year after year. That win last night made their day ( or even the season). I never got that excited after beating KST, us KU fans only think about winning the national championship.

@Kcmatt7 it’s a great timeout with 23 sec left but a head scratcher with only 5 seconds remaining. Stopping the game with only 5 seconds left allowed the defense to reset and put time pressure on your own offense. Self is a great coach, and even the great ones can make a questionable decisions sometimes.

@jayballer67 Harris has a tendency to choke at the most crucial times. He turned the ball over at the end of the National championship game last year, he turned the ball over at the end of the regulation , and he turned the ball over at the end of the OT. He almost gave away the National Chamo6 and he did gave away this game to K-State.

@wissox If we won a national championship after his gloom and doom, perhaps he should do more of that this year.
