Central Florida 3. Not UCF.

  • I’m torn between being more optimistic because Mayo and Storr played well, and less optimistic because a team who kind of sucks just took us to OT at basically a home game.

  • Hey I’ll stay up and live chat the Montana Northern Colorado game with ya’ll if you want!!

  • @Kcmatt7 we beat this team 99-48 in january. I would lean towards the latter.

  • We haven’t won yet lol

  • @wissox AJ and Rylan both had 10+ when we shellacked this team in january

    BUT STORR PROX. STORR.

    Sigh. You’re probably right.

  • Nice 2nd FT shot.

  • @approxinfinity Crack research team of the bucket!!!

  • Hoped we’d see some intensity. Good game by Storr. Same old team. We’ll see how it goes. Rock chalk!

  • Diggy said fu i’m going home!!

  • Almost hit 100

  • @Zabudda PHOF!!!

  • Whew, what a battle, but good guys get to play again

  • @Zabudda said in Central Florida 3. Not UCF.:

Diggy said fu i’m going home!!

    Hopefully Juan took notes lol

  • @wissox I got one of those several years ago.

  • We don’t know how many more games this team will win so I’ll definitely take this one!!! Fun game to to watch, hopefully we remember to play defense tomorrow lol

  • Finally got to this Montana / N Colorado game almost at halftime the world has been waiting for

  • Afraid no gas left in the tank for tomorrow

  • Juando and Rylan have to play better tomorrow. Juan didn’t have a terrible floor game but his 4 turnovers were pretty ugly and came at bad times. He also missed 2 3s without another player within 10 feet of him. Rylan missed layups and wide open 3s.

  • His throws came at a good time though

  • 1 point dogs tomorrow

  • @webjay 3.5pt favorite at Allen and 1pt dog on neutral court. Interesting

  • Ugly win, but nice to see AJ have a good game. He’s the one guy on this roster being a difference maker that hasn’t really been one this season. With his performance tonight, I would reinforce it by starting him over Griffen tomorrow.

  • @BShark said in Central Florida 3. Not UCF.:

Haphazard line-ups tonight. Storr has given up multiple wide open threes.

In defense of Storr, giving up wide open 3s is kinda our thing. Blame all around many times over.

I was very excited about Storr’s play tonight. I know going in not to expect much on D. That changes your perspective for the better. If he makes a play, great. Kinda like not having high hopes of KJ making any guarded shot near or under the basket. If he does, I’m elated (lobs not included).

But this team, Jesus! It’s like digging a grave with a spoon. They make things soooo much harder than they need to with brain dead play! Even the announcers were like, wtf are these guys doing??? Value the ball. Slow down. Keep possession.

But a win’s a win. We need em. On to Arizona.

  • Fun with the box score!

Nothing real shocking tonight. Lots of similarity though. Stats nearly identical.

    Turnovers

    KU — 16

    UCF — 14

    Basic shooting stats

KU took eight more shots, both otherwise both teams about the same with percentages:

    FG

    45% ish

    3PT

    44% ish

    FT

    75-78%

    Bench points

This was a big one for KU!

    30-13

  • A win against Zona would be three in a row which we last achieved Jan 5th thru 11th UCF, ASU, Cincy. Long drought. We are a 6th seed before this win and the move from a 7th seed to a 6th seed made for a much better draw. I guess we could get a 5 seed if we wanted to which is even better, The lack of being able to win three in a row is a tribute to the toughness of the Big12 and our own fault. We can look damned good but never quite in control of our total game. Thank you for the 19 points AJ and for restoring our faith in you and this is on the heels of the real Zeke becoming really Zeky again. Some poster in tonights thread said he wished we could go from 7 points up to like 11 points up in the last couple of minutes of the half. No I agree but we don’t do that.

  • AJ Storr Highlights vs. UCF (19 Pts, 2 Rebs, 2 Asts)

  • Zeke Mayo Highlights vs. UCF (24 Pts, 8 Rebs)

  • Hunter Dickinson Highlights vs. UCF (23 Pts, 13 Rebs, 3 Asts)

  • @dylans Unfortunately, I think AZ -9.5 unless we can correct mistakes that have plagued us all year

  • @webjay The same team KU just beat 2 games ago? Maybe, but I have a little faith that KU will show up and win.

I have much more faith in KU basketball even in this terrible down year to win a game of significance than the football team will ever win an important game. In this terrible no good basketball season KU has still managed to beat the #1 team in the nation. That would never happen for the football team. So there is hope. Likely false hope, but it’s more than I’ve ever held for the football team.

The bball team is not up to the standard this year. Goes to show how spoiled we are in basketball and how crappy the football program has been for nearly a century (in both sports) for expectations to be what they are. Hopefully the football team will continue gaining momentum - not likely a long term deal given history so better enjoy it now while there is still hope. And hopefully the basketball team will get back to earning 1 seeds and disappointing in the tournament due to it’s unpredictable nature.

  • @dylans If we play to our ability, I think we can play with anyone in the country. Maybe not win but push them to the limits. Football is so much different in terms of parity. I think we can play with any team in the conference on any given Saturday but we would get the brakes beat off of us by a Ohio state or Georgia

  • @DanR How did the Montana game turn out lol

  • Totally got my hopes up last night thinking we’d play well enough to win fairly comfortable but that’s just not reality. It’s unfeasible at this point to believe this group will change in any meaningful way. They are who they are.

Today’s another day to learn from yesterday. They closed out and won an OT game, there’s my optimism. Consistency will have to improve today to win against a team we just beat 6 days ago but in Allen. Going to need big games from Hunt Mayo and whoever else shows up again tonight. Will they have any legs left in the tank in the 2nd half… we shall see. 4 starters played 36+ minutes last night.

  • Playing AZ in the friendly confines of Allen Fieldhouse is likely very different from playing them anywhere else. We’ve watched our team several times this year going into the last minute with a decent lead, then give the game away with bonehead plays. I had that same sick feeling last night, but we luckily held on.

I think if DJ and KJ minimize bonehead plays, Zeke stays Zekey, Hunt mans up under the basket all night, AJ (or Rylan) shows up again, and one or two others contribute off the bench, we beat AZ. That’s a lot of ifs. But hey, it’s March and stranger things have been known to happen right? Rock chalk you oldest team in country, go get em!

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 its a toss up for me starting Rylan or AJ. Would be nice not to tweak things to have them settle. Maybe Rylan produces with the show of faith with another start

  • @approxinfinity I don’t care about feelings at this point. Rylan has been bad the last few games and AJ played pretty well last night. Start him and see if it carries over. If not, go back to Rylan because even if he does nothing, that’s what he’s been doing recently anyway.

  • Rylan is 22/75 from the field (29%) since February started. He hasn’t played like a starter in almost 2 months outside a play or 2 a game. Don’t get it with him

  • @BeddieKU23 said in Central Florida 3. Not UCF.:

Even though I’ve stated earlier I’d like to see AJ start, I’m not sure I’d want to switch Rylan and AJ at this point, but it’s difficult to watch Rylan put the ball on the court in his spastic way.

If we can get him an open shot, that would help.

Now if AJ has back to back good games…I say presto chango Remy March Madness time.

  • @rockchalkjayhawk i just dont know if you change anything re AJ. Praise the hell out of him and tell him if he plays like that he will get 27 min again

  • Whomever starts isn’t a big deal it’s who is playing the most minutes

  • I seriously feel we have three legit teams that could make a serious run to the Championship.-- --Houston , - Texas Tech and then BYU. yes BYU. I think they are a threat. they play loose, they play fast-- love to run and thing is they let it fly and it’s not just one or two guys & they have shot a prety good % on the year. Call me crazy it’s ok But I think they could surprise some people. Really good Coach , plays good defense ya
