So I finished Yellowstone. What an embarrassing end to the show with no Costner. Somebody messed that up big time.
Are you familiar at all with the drama that happened prior to the final episodes being released? That also took over 1 year before the final episodes were released. It is what it is and not an uncommon theme for tv shows that get so big and have such following for the wheels to fall off towards the end.
-
@BeddieKU23 That ending to Game of Thrones…Ugg. George needs to get back to writing so I can read the correct wrap up. That ending can’t be it!

Glad someone picked up on that nugget. Perfect example

I was not familiar at all until after i watched the final season. Did some binge watching, and really hadn’t paid attention to the show at all previously. My jaw dropped at the Costner-less nature of the final shows, and i poked around after.
The wheels totally fell off. Just crazy how they let that happen.

Well, I rebooted the HBOmax subscription.
Anybody have any faves other than White Lotus?
-
Prob stuff youve seen: hacks season 1, chernobyl, the wire, the last of us, the pitt
-
@approxinfinity I’m enjoying the last of us. Pedro Pascal is in fantastic 4 too…oh boy, is it bad though.

The Wire may be my all time fav show.
Chernobyl and the Pitt I haven’t tried. Thx!

I think I watched the first season of the last of us. At the time I was totally burned out on post-apocalyptic dramas, so I stopped watching.

Righteous gemstones is hilarious.

Hmmm. I did reboot the HBOMax subscription not too long ago, but having second thoughts about sticking with it.
I admit that i really enjoyed two of their documentaries: Chimp Crazy and The Mortician. Crazy. I watched the latest Righteous Gemstones as well. That had its moments, but seemed a bit over the top – if that’s possible – this season.
There don’t seem to be too many new or worthwhile shows to watch that suit my tastes. What am i missing?
I am not a Euphoria kinda guy. Sooo depressing.
The old comedies like Veep and Silicon Valley are still top notch to rewatch, but what have they offered since then? I’m not finding squat worth squat. I see no classics.
Do they make comedies any more??
-
@rockchalkjayhawk if you like cozy murder mysteries theres an endless supply of them with a britbox subscription, i am at this moment watching an episode of Ludwig.

Ahh, nice. My wife loves the cozy, non violent English mysteries on PBS. So maybe that’ll do the trick. Thx @approxinfinity !

Been watching The Pitt on max. Enjoyable so far for those that like the medical dramas

Season 1 of Eastbound and Down is good

Yup, that’s a good one. I like all those Danny shows. I guess that’s kinda my point with HBOMax…they have some great history, but is there a new show worth watching?
-
Last of Us at least the first season was really good. Somebody somewhere is good if you can stomach watching a show set in Manhattan, KS. Our flag means death was good, The rehearsal is absolutely hilarious if you like that kind of thing but pretty much unwatchable if you don’t (I love it…). Other than that, Apple TV has had some good ones recently too with Severance, Shrinking, Plutonic, etc.

Chernobyl is underrated. Really an incredible series.
-
I’m gonna give Chernobyl a go. Is it all doom and gloom (duh).
-
It is the doomiest and gloomiest. But really well done.
Part of my appreciation was due to the fact that I had huge holes in my understanding of the story. I followed the story during the initial event, but, of course, the Soviets had a tight lid on information so it was limited info and in some cases not accurate (disinformation). As years went by (after the wall came down), more info was released but it wasn’t in my news cycle so I missed it.
-
I will second that Chernobyl is a good series. I’m not sure how factually correct it is, but it is entertaining.
-
Impossible to know how accurate, but I saw a documentary on the making of the show. There was extensive original research coupled with years of myriad news outlets’ reporting.
One of the advantages of the show being done 25-30 years after the incident is that there was time to gather lots of details and sort through the conflicting accounts (both the deliberate and the mistaken).
