Hot take: Hunter getting ejected won us the game.
He had a cold spell that was disaster earlier. We found a way to score as a team with him out, and Bidunga had like 3 offensive rebounds.

@approxinfinity Hunt was just off imo tonight after starting hot. I think it goes back to me saying not a player on this team should play more than 30 minutes outside of Juan without Shak

KJ had 2 rebounds, 8 points… oh yeah, 3 steals and 3 blocks and 0 turnovers.

@approxinfinity KJ played the best defensive game of his career, Storr and Griffen were also solid on that end.

@approxinfinity I thought about this too… sometimes he can be a little bit of a black hole or allow his frustrations to impair his game… hindsight is always 20/20 and it’s great learning for a big man we may not get another year of.

Pretty easy to see what he didn’t like. Every time he got in a situation where he was guarding flag or the other dude (kneuple??) he went for a steal and was left way out of position and it led to points for Duke.

Probably the most underrated unnoticed play of the game was Juan chipping flag on that play late as they went back to the two man game with the freshmen. Getting him off balance blew up the play and forced them into something they didn’t want. Rewatch it. It was veteran high iq type stuff.

Don’t care what anyone says - -KJ was a Man tonight. Eight points, big buckets in clutch time, after Hunter is ejected-- but Eight points , Three Blocks , Three Steals, and Three assists an incredible job on Flagg when he was defending him

Tonight’s game brought back a lot of old memories for me about Duke.
I have tried. I have tried, over the years, to soften my view of the world and that includes Duke.

They go out and play dirty then whine for every little call. Scheyer is a p*ssy! They can buy the best recruits. They can own the refs. But they remain the team America hates.
Hunter’s foot tap was wrong. He didn’t deserve to be ejected. And what about the guy who undercut him? Talk about a REAL RISK OF INJURY!

Gotta love that the officials were also clueless that, ya’know, once ejected you have to leave the court (not the building Fran you big meanie).

I am shocked the refs booted HD. F2s/ejections are reserved for egregious behavior and should be used responsibly. What is the point of F1s? No to mention, HD was getting mauled for 10 straight minutes before that, with no love from the zebras. So he got frustrated, and lashed out. F1 and move on. Let the best players decide the game.

Even if Duke had won, their true fans would have wanted HD to be in there. No one wants to be handed a game like that w/out earning it outright.

KJ Adams is the G-D man tonight. Owned Flagg tonight on defense. Dejuan owned Flagg on offense. Flagg couldn’t do anything to stop Dejaun getting to the rim and causing chaos all night.

This is also the best KU game I’ve been to in person. The only other contender is the 2020 Baylor game in Waco when Baylor was #1 and KU was #3.

Cooper is a baller. No doubt. But he’s 17 and he’s already choked twice now! He will no doubt choke in March, too, because he’s a friggin’ kid.
He’s “fool’s gold” for Duke. Everything rides on him. I prefer our team full of experienced players and a 5-year PG who already has a ring.
Scheyer is Calipari2. Speaking of Calipari… I’ve heard the first “buyer’s remorse” is going down in Hogtown! I’m shocked! lol

Just read something funny. For the Champions classic ESPN’s matchup predictor gave Duke a 70% chance to beat Kentucky. Tonight it was a 69% chance for them to beat us.
Ya’ll know how those two games worked out for duke?

Lost my mind on that flagrant call on Hunter. Miraculous win and probably one that was not appreciated by all those who thought they had paid enough $$$ to the refs.
How do refs spend 5 minutes to make the wrong call? I mean, on that play alone, the more dangerous and intentional foul was the Duke player undercutting HD when he was going up for the rebound. When a 7’ 2" guy comes down ass over tea kettle, it’s not that surprising that arms and legs come down awkwardly.
Fran et al. idiots @ espn thought it “seemed” like it was intentional. That’s not the rule. Flagrant 2 is for punches and kicks. Not a foot coming down on another player who cut his legs out from under him. And the nonsense about “reputation” has got to get vetted. Are the refs there to punish players? Are they there to teach someone a lesson —looking for an opportunity to make a point?

@bskeet Hunt was hacked all night. I do think he started to force the issue, and the “kick” may have been out of frustration, but egregious and worthy of ejection? No shot. The aftermath where the officials tried to reestablish control where they actually started calling fouls pissed me off more to be honest. I hate when you call a game differently half way through.
It may have worked out in our favor in the end though. Flory got some great big time minutes and the team responded. It may end up being some of that identity and resilience a team searches for.
