Very disappointing, but not unexpected. I guess that has allowed him to play more loose without overthinking against K-State and/or auditioning for his next team. Just hope Mari stays. And, of course, Furphy.

A loss because he can be a good player, but specifically for next year’s KU team he wasn’t the best fit. It is always going to be hard for him to shine playing next to Harris/KJ because he wants driving lanes and isn’t an ideal floor spacer himself.

That is not a good look if every year we have a loss of all the freshman from the previous year. That could be a big hit on recruiting. That is assuming that Furphy leaves for the draft. One to the NBA and the rest leave for other teams last year and now this year if this is how it pans out.

Wow, what did he think about as to why he wasn’t seeing the court as much, - -hell the kid didn’t even tr to take a shot during a three game stretch. making bad decisions, just not playing well until started to show some recently. - This portal is making a mockery of the sport - -to am easy for these kids to get out of there commitment. - Now instead of sucking it up tying to get better, produce-- - it’s just like well I just transfer out find a school that will butter me up, let me slide- -oh well - -BYE

Not sure how I feel about losing Elmarko. Not sure what kinda guard he is.
He doesn’t look like a PG — he doesn’t seem to be able to get us into our offense.
He doesn’t really look like a two guard who can shoot yet.
But, his 3 pt shooting stats aren’t as bad as I thought for the season. 12 for 37 / 32%
I’d like to see his athleticism be useful by year three maybe?
The college game is just so weird now. I’m not used to the constant turnover.

Elmarko is a score first PG and plays the style many here would prefer to see. The problem right now and why he’s likely leaving is that he is not good playing off the ball which would be his role next year as well if he wanted big minutes. At his natural position, he’s not playing many minutes with a 6th year Dejuan Harris at the 1 ahead of him.

I think Elmarko will be a stud PG. i wish him nothing but success. I respect that this came out after Dajuan decided to return, and I see him telling Bill early as a sign of maturity. He is being decisive. Thats fine by me. I agree he will be a bad fit at the 2 and his leaving is a win win provided we get a stud shooter at 2. Otherwise we will be bitching about Dajuan back and chasing off Elmarko.

Elmarko’s a year away from being a year away at PG. There are no PG skills in his current bag. If he could play the position he’d be giving Harris a breather but he hasn’t for 30 games now. That tells you everything you need to know. Wish him the best, really was high on him coming in. He was in the portal as soon as he lost his starting spot.

They have Philon in the fold. If he sticks around he will likely be the guy in 25 replacing Harris. Year to learn under him then take over. Of course those kind of plans are hard to even think about anymore in today’s age. Either it will be Philon, an incoming recruit in 25 or a transfer.

I said this would happen with Juan staying and we likely don’t sign a PG to back him up. Maybe a very low rated one. Elmarko has a high ceiling and will be a good player somewhere else.

We will have to see how this plays out, it could bite Self in the rear end. Juan isn’t playing pro basketball in this country and likely not over seas. I like Juan, he’s a good kid but hes very limited athletically and that’s is a problem at times with his lack of aggression.

I will say, I do wish Jamari would stay or that Elmarko would change his mind somehow. It can’t really be sustainable to keep losing entire recruiting classes and portaling in loads of guys.

@BShark Instant gratification is something KU can’t always offer a underclass man. Instant gratification seems to be necessary to hold their attention though. Hell a couple guys that started during their freshman years transferred away recently (Bryce Thompson, Zuby Ejifore) because the competition was too stiff. Add Elmarko to that list.

Jamari baffles me especially since he knew coming in his role wasn’t going to be big. Probably wants to get close to home and go to A&M. Probably a better fit in that system there too with Buzz. Whatever.
Elmarko is just a miss for this year. If he stayed, he would improve but he’s not a PG currently. They ran him out there on Tuesday without Harris for one play and he crapped his paints trying to run the play. Think he might need to drop a level to find where he can develop as a PG because right now he cannot run a team at this level. The lights are too bright

Why are so many against the kid returning? He’s been forced to play off ball the whole year and essentially adjust to a role he’s never had to do in his life. He’s one of the three-four good athletes on this team. Everybody doesn’t get it as a freshman and that’s fine.

@TYOHawk because people complain about Juan not being a scorer. It feels like about a 2% chance that we will get 1 year of good shooting from Elmarko. If we have a couple non shooters fine, but i dont think Elmarko should play off ball. Id rather just have 1 guard that cant shoot on the court at the point. And another who cant shoot the 3 in the frontcourt in KJ.

One of my biggest issues with the team this year is I felt Elmarko didn’t get enough reps on ball cause Dajuan plays like 38 minutes a game. Coach has got to let him or Philon actually get to be on ball next year.

He’s playing a different role because the role they could really use him at (backup PG, secondary ballhandler) he cannot do currently. He cannot run the offense or simple plays for this team.
They say he’s really good in practice but in games it hasn’t translated. He is young to the game so maybe he has a big leap in him coming. We need something to stay and develop.
