Meh neither Peterson nor Acuff will be in college long enough to be the face of anything and with Acuff it sounds like Calamari and Ark pockets won the NIL war there anyway. Depending on what we are trying to spend for Peterson I’d say we are likely overspending for a year as well. Their camps clearly want a bag and nothing else matters. They don’t give a hoot about KU. I’d rather push the chips in on the best transfer options then chase these high school kids that have only 1 goal in mind. Think about both of these guys for a minute, exactly where does Peterson think he fits here with the idea to be a point guard? Doesn’t fit at all

If Self wants to use Peterson at PG in 2025-26, what else does KU currently have? Elmarko Jackson coming back from a significant knee injury is all KU has right now.
Darryn Peterson is a future top 5 pick in a pretty loaded 2026 draft who’s only going to play college ball because that’s the best option financially. We also know Self probably won’t play him at the 1 the majority of the time, but at the 2 with plenty of chances to initiate the offense becausehe is capable. He’s also going to be better than any option there will be in the portal next season. With him already signed to an NIL deal with Adidas, KU isn’t paying the majority of his NIL deal.
He will have experience around him as KU will likely have Elmarko, Passmore, Griffen, and Flory in 2025-26, possibly AJ Storr as well.
A starting line up of Peterson, Storr, Passmore, Griffen, and Bidunga is a line up that can score from all 3 levels and run pretty much anyone off the court with pace and tempo.

Do you think the transfers don’t care about the bag? They are all focused on the bag or attempting to go pro. As much as guys like Gradey or CB dreamed about being at KU…they would rather be in the league. Thats the real dream for them.

New DP update on on3

Haven’t read it (I don’t subscribe) but really like where we’re at with Peterson. Sounds like the ship has sailed with Acuff

This is encouraging coming from you.

We clearly wanted Peterson more so gotta trust the staff to finish the job because if we lose both that’s brutal.
Bill’s time to run college bball and capitalize with 3-4 more titles. Get us even with uk who’s about to be the next Indiana

There could definitely be some smoke with Arenas. For anyone who isn’t already aware, he is the son of Gilbert Arenas, who had a signature shoe with Adidas and Adidas will still put out retro Agent 0 shoes from time to time. KU could be in a pretty good spot there.
But, his dad also played at Arizona, so I have to imagine they will be a big factor in his recruitment as well.

KT is in there deep as well. I know there is some message board banter about why does Bill keep him etc… But he definitely earns it.

He’s got a really tough gig. It’s always been a truism in recruiting that west coast kids are the toughest to pull.

Random thought for the morning - Did you see the documentary about the Asian fellow who likely inspired the meaning - he was nude for the show and they used an eggplant to blur out his junk.
Edit The show is called “The Contestant” it’s on Hulu. I haven’t watched, but thought the premise was wild/horrible.
-
-
@dylans I did watch the documentary about him. I cannot imagine living like he did. The producer of the show was a huge a$$hole and took advantage of this guy.

Another Shak Moore type to be the primary back-up imo

Is there an expected commit date for Peterson?
-
@dylans said in Recruiting Notes:
Is there an expected commit date for Peterson?
Last I heard Peterson at one point was not in a hurry. Now sounding more like might get done sooner then later, still visiting USC --was scheduled to take official to Ohio State but now going to USC instead of Ohio State- - -not sure if he plans on visiting Ohio St or not. – His dad said that Darryn getting excited and looking like announcement may not be way off, might get done Basically the only other thing I heard that Darryn’s dad really like Coach Self & Darryn actually got pretty excited talking about Coach Self. One other thing was Kentucky was trying to sneak back in with their new Coach Pope.
Peterson had already taken a visit to Kentucky when Calipari was still there, but said he was still interested in Kentucky but would have to get to know the new staff and more likely to visit the School again - - Still think we are in good shape though
-
@dylans said in Recruiting Notes:

Shortly after the USC visit. Purely speculation of course, nothing officially listed at this time.
-
Side note he’s not coming here so I can say it. But was listening to a college hoops podcast. It sounds like the going price for Dybantsa is between 3-5 million. BYU is in the lead there…
-
Uhhhh 3-5 million dollars? You have got to be kidding. For one year? and for a 17 year old with no college experience? Insane.
-
BYU is throwing insane money out there. They lead for another kid I am forgetting his name but highly ranked. Apparently their coach being an NBA guy is also helping in recruiting.

Rumors are out that Acuff will be committing next Friday. Arkansas is the choice
-
New offer: Keyshuan Tillery.
Love his game and the fit with Billy goat. Talked with a friend that saw several full AAU games this year and we are both hoping he ends up in Lawrence, KS.
-
Sounds like KU is deep in it with Eric Reibe
-
Peterson cut his list to 4 today as well. KU, Ohio State, USC and KSU.
Dybantsa visit this week as well…
-

Sounded like a very impactful visit that kind of went under the radar. No complaints if we press and push to land him… we need lots of dudes for next yr
-
There’s a lot of Hunter to Reibe’s game.

@FarmerJayhawk said in Recruiting Notes:

Hunt had the recruiting hat on apparently.
-
Not really sure how much it effected his thinking BUT Reibe did cut his visits to Kentucky & N Carolina right after his visit was complete here , very true we could be in deep. Thing is playing ime is critical to him, he wants that time. -How would that effect Flory ?
-
I know we are losing a lot at the end of the year, however I think Coach is right on the cuff of a MONSTER recruiting class . If the right pieces fall into place , if everything goes like we would want- -way things kinda looking like - -could be HUGE , might get quite interesting. NIL very well place a big factor for these kids.
-
Is Reibe good? On his last 6 games his big scoring outputs are coupled with a negative +/-
-
@dylans hard to say. Depends on how you weight FIBA vs German pro ball vs American HS ball. He has jumped 100 spots in the rankings this summer so clearly he’s doing something right
