Will they leave a scholarship open to satisfy the penalty a year early?
Looks like yes
-
@BeddieKU23 I would much rather eat the scholarship penalty than have him on scholarship.
-
@kjayhawks juando dunked against WVU in 2022 and 2023. I’m pretty sure juando had a couple more gentle flushes. Wilson had one dunk that I remember off a lob from Juando against WVU in the same @ WVU game… 2022? If Wilson had ANY other in game dunks, I’d love to see a video, because I seriously do not remember any. Not that it matters, but the dude was not a jumper.
-
Damn, now Self is speaking publicly about Kugel’s chances of making it to campus. Up in the air!
That would hurt. two open scholarships if he’s out. So for sure somebody would replace him. Hopefully there are quality players still to be found.
Depth killer for sure!
-
I have heard others say , the longer this goes the they think the chances might be better he still ends up here. Could Happen Maybe ?
-
Certainly doesn’t sound promising.
-
Thoughts on Bill saying Hunter needs to just get more athletic defensively next year……???
-
Lol @kuballin10 . Translation: “we got him locked in. I can say what i want. He cannot change his athleticism significantly, we all know that. Im not a blind idiot. I know we have more athletic options this year and i will use them as i see fit.”
-
The funniest thing to me in Bill’s comments was him gassing everyone up except for when he said “and and and and Jamari McDowell is back”.
So telling!

lol I guess we have to wait and see if we just adjust to how Hunter plays the ball screen because what we did this year didn’t work

Honestly wish he’d moved on somewhere he can get real minutes…unless he plans to redshirt and go the releford route

Was a questionable take from the beginning imo.

How so? Wasn’t a star recruit, wasn’t expected to be a star in year 1 either.
-
glad Jamari is on the team, he has been a good teammate, making the most of his minutes, and you need guys like that

He will redshirt next season imo. Now, I’d be stunned if he even had half the stats Releford ended up with at Kansas…
I don’t want to disparage the kid too hard. He’s staying for non-basketball reasons is the best way to put it.

You’re tempting me, really tempting me. Good team mate is a stretch! Gonna take a break lol.

What translatable traits do you see for him long term? Just as a basketball player? Not even as a star.
-
Well looks like we’ll be jumping back into the portal again
-
@BShark ie ladies or $$$$ or both haha
-
Rakease…your opportunity has arrived young man.
-
Didn’t see much of any in his freshman year. They won’t all be stars but taking a shot on a former Top 100 recruit doesn’t seem like the worst take. He wasn’t some unknown recruit without other offers either.
-
Shelby takes Kugels spot. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s best we can do at this point which seems like a low bar in itself. Perhaps there is one last trick to get a somewhat comparable talent in that can provide wing depth for this season.
-
Still trying on Robinson

It’s not the best scenario for us immediately but I’m fine with giving Rakease those spot minutes.

Shelby on scholarship is a disaster lol
-
Are grade transfers still an issue with Kugel?
-
Hearing Today that Kugel could be re-opening his recruitment. - - Kentucky , Arizona , & Illinois possibly
-
If he gets into another big major school how on earth is that happening compared to coming to KU….who in the education/transfer dept needs to figure this crap out
Maybe get the UTSA kid
-
My somewhat informed guess is Kugel could actually get into KU but not be eligible to play. This actually happens fairly often, just nobody talks about it for obvious reasons.
-
@FarmerJayhawk So if he gets in and can play elsewhere how the heck did another school figure that out and we can’t?
-
@kuballin10 KU has these things called academic standards that everyone has to follow. If he gets to play at school the quality of KSU then more power to him
-
Dang. Sounds like we’ll miss his basketball skills, but not his mental skills.
We need a guy to replace him who can contribute, not a bench scrub.
Cmon, coach! Find us a winner.
-
Since Kugel isn’t coming now, I’d wait until after the NBA Draft withdrawal date because there will be some good players pulling out of the draft that can start. Hunter and Remy were both late transfer additions so there will be high level talent available after Memorial Day weekend.

Wait. An education is not only offered, but required too?!?

Wild right?? For a second I forgot what the U in KU stood for…
-
I think after we got comit from Storr & Riley-- pretty well sealed the deal, think he wasn’t to hyped up on the competition.

Oh he still really, really wants to be a Jayhawk. Just didn’t put the work in over the semester to get it done.
-
Hopefully he can conquer his demons with kugel exorcises
-
@approxinfinity Sounds like an accident waiting to happen!
-
@approxinfinity goofball!
-

Might be a better fit that way
-
If it has to do with academics, I’d be surprised if the result would be any different at Illinois. Kentucky and Arizona may have more academic flexibility.

Don’t drink and park! Accidents cause people.
-
So how would you fellows (and ladies) rank the following possible outcomes in terms of likelihood:
A. We add nobody else to the roster
B. We add Noah Shelby on scholarship
C. We add Noah Shelby as a walk-on
D. We add Jaxson Robinson
E. We add both Jaxson Robinson (scholarship) and Noah Shelby (walk-on)
F. We add someone else.
-
G. Who dafahq noze!
I know what I want…
-
I say B or C and F. But I really like G too.
-
@Jhawk69 F - as @Texas-Hawk-10 said…we land a good guard that pulls out of the draft
-
Agree with the above, B or C and keep options open for someone. Maybe there’s another Furphy out there.
-
Kugel sure had high upside and would have been fascinating to see him here but this is just another bullet dodged in the end. If you can’t even keep your academics in order, which the bar is so damn low for athletes to begin with, there’s more issues under the hood then Self needs.
-
I’m curious as o who plays the 4 next year. At this point, it looks like KJ and Zach unless Self goes 4 out. Seems like we need an upgrade there for rebounding and shooting.
