FYI, KU toughened up the Badgers for USC today and we took care of them in regulation.

They looked very good. New found respect for Wiskey. USC is a tournament team, imo.
-
Always easy to root against Duke - -they just sooo soo, non likeable lol- -everyr year
-
There is always a Duke player easy not to like - example tripper boy - Giminski - - - – This year Roach is the player targeted lol

NOT looking forward to when Self hangs em up. Coaching matters.
-
Mercy Iowa State turning opponents at a 23 TO per game clip. - -Iowa St also up on N Carol right now , however Carolina ha yet to really imprss me this year for being the # 1 ranked team in the nation. - -They been struggling to win their games
-
@jayballer67 They are overrated in the polls like us. They are like…54th on KENPOM if you remove last year’s data.

Tomorrows problem. Leave it there. Who knows? KU might end up with its fourth straight upgrade at coach.
-
Nobody should look forward to Self retiring.
-
Gonzaga only scored 28 in this half. Mark Few is stuck in the 1980’s.
-
@FarmerJayhawk umm KU only scored 25 in both halves. Glad it’s early in the season, there are a few kinks to work out.
-
@dylans from halftime of Wisconsin on we’ve lost 112 to 86 (second half and OT if Wisconsin and then TN game).
Took our lumps let’s see what Self does with this team offensively
-
@dylans definitely. And nobody better at ironing them out than Bill Self

Can someone please define the responsibilities of a PG ? - -there seems to be a difference of opinion with some here. I always thought and or heard that a PG duties was to run the team like a QB - set the offense , distribute to others getting them shots , open looks & some Scoring , making the assists
People saying 9.0 is NOT enough - -need to score more. - If you have your others doing what they should then 9 points a game should be sufficient.
As ew know are we should know this team right now has serious limitations. As been mentioned before -we have got to get somebody else to be able to score the ball. Most of or at least a lot of the problems center around our 5. -we have just got to get something out of them - -we have to get something out of our bench. -other then last night with Joe scoring and that was out of necessity with Juan foul problems we have gotten zelch from the bench.
I would think Zach would be the logical choice. - -Seen a little flash last year, hasn’t really shown yet this year , but if he is on he is a big that can stretch the floor, pull opposition away from the basket - -Ernest & Zuby better rebounders - -just no offensive skills at this point at all. - If we could get Zach off the snide other tteams would be more forced to play honestly instead of sagging off others

There’s different styles of PG and Self has traditionally preferred PG’s who look to score so Harris definitely breaks that mold of what we expect out of a Bill Self PG. Under Self, he’s had what I would consider to be 4 PG’s that don’t fit the mold of a score first PG. Aaron Miles whom he inherited from Roy. Russell Robinson who came to KU with a reputation as a big time scorer, Naadir Tharpe, and now Harris amd none of those 4 were Self’s first choice at PG other than Miles because he inherited him. Robinson was known as a scorer in HS and when that didn’t translate to KU, Self tried making Chalmers the PG first before handing the keys to Robinson. Thorpe was something like the 7th or 8th option in his class and KU ended up with him because of a bunch of recruiting misses around the time Self was way off on recruiting and had a bunch of misses and desperate signings. Harris was pretty similar to Tharpe in that regard in that he wasn’t Self’s first choice and done more as a favor to Braun, but has obviously far outperformed his recruiting ranking.
As far as actual on court style, Harris has a very similar game to Aaron Miles in that neither were good shooters, neither looked to get their own shot first, and both were happier to create for others. A lot of the complaints against Harris stem from the fact we’re so used to seeing our PG be either first or second in scoring because that’s Self’s preferred style of PG play.
I will also say that the roster composition for both title teams was very similar. A play making PG with the scoring PG as the 6th man (Robinson-Collins, Harris-Martin), a second guard that could shoot lights out (Chalmers, Braun), a wing that could do a little bit of everything (Rush, Agbaji), a 4 that could drive and clean up on glass (Arthur, Wilson), and a 5 that was serviceable, but not flashy (Jackson/Kaun, McCormack). Obviously those two teams had their own individual strengths and weaknesses (2008 was much better in defense and 2022 was much better on offense), but there were a lot of similarities with how those teams were constructed in March.

Kelvin Sampson couldn’t even reach 50 smh
-
3 OT with Carolina and Bama.
-
About to go to 4
-
Wow, bama guy clearly blocked unc shot as it was going up and they called goaltend
-
If that decides the game thats a damn shame
-
I don’t really know how you can review that as it’s such a judgment call. In real time I thought it was goaltending. I don’t care much to be honest.
-
Wow Had missed that but just saw Purdue just whupped Duke’s tail- - 75-56 - -Duke loses – Carolina loses Again - -crazy season already

Anyone know if only Nike schools are being invited to Phil Knight’s ego driven tournaments?
-
When the new rankings come out it’s going to look quite a bit differently than the first month of the season polls.

Yes, it’s only Nike schools.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Unless something changed that I’m not aware of we’re still Adidas?
If Phil Knight is allowed to do that should the NCAA allow it? I’m no lawyer but it almost sounds like an anti-trust type thing or something. Maybe the great legal minds here can speak to that.
-
This is not college hoops exactly but it is other games. I have an impeccable record of switching the channel to the Chicago Blackhawks just at the right time to see the other team score.
-
@wissox When Nike and Ticketmaster merge, we’ll talk. Meanwhile, no issue. Lots of tourneys for bb teams.

It doesn’t violate any anti-trust stuff and it’s not set up any different than the other November tournaments. Teams are invited the same way they’re invited to Maui, Atlantis, KC, or any other preseason tournament.

Was thinking that just now myself - - -Gonzaga lost Again now with 2 losses - - - North Carolina lost twice over the holiday weekend - - Duke lost again - - WE lost Mercy crazy already
-
Yeah I’m thinking that tournament might be seen as too good. UNC walks away with 2 losses which is survivable for them I guess. But most teams aren’t going to like the potential to lose two games. MSU has to play Portland in a meaningless 5th place game and nearly lost to 5-4 mid-major Portland. Kudos to Sparty for beating Oregon in their homestate, but it makes me wonder how many teams are going to want to travel to the Pacific Northwest and risk two or even three losses.
Meanwhile Indiana holds their own ‘invitational’ and is 6-0 without having played anybody. And like the last 30 years since Bobby left they’re being overrated. But Indiana fans won’t tell you they’re overrated. They think, to their credit I guess, that Indiana basketball is still relevant.

Caleb Love gets the efficiency award of the day for the Tarheels: 13 out of 36 shooting: 34 points.

That tournament is two 8 team brackets and not any more loaded than other higher profile tournaments can be. One of the brackets had 4 ranked teams and the other had 3 ranked teams. That’s not uncommon for some of the higher profile tournaments like Maui, Atlantis, or Orlando to have fields like that as well.
I also think tournaments like that early on are beneficial because it really exposes a team’s strengths and weaknesses.
The only game I’ve seen of Indiana this year was their game against Xavier and IU looks like a solid team that should contend for the Big 10 this year and if KU plays like they did against Tennessee, IU could KU off the floor as well.

I see Houston is #1 on CBS Sports. They’ve played an easy early schedule and only have two ranked teams to play this year, at this point.
I’m going to watch tomorrow’s game. Has anyone watched them? Give me some hints as to what to watch for?

Really good backcourt. Sasser is their best player. Walker and Arceneaux are exciting freshman with both on NBA radars. They defend and rebound. Kind of the staple of Sampson…

All we need to know about Houston is - - -they are legit. - -Sasser is the real deal

There’s a reason they’re a title favorite this year. Marcus Sasser is NPOY levels of good. They still have a few players from their Fonal Four team two years ago so this team is battle tested. They also have Kelvin Sampson who is a top 5 coach right now. He’s done something even Self hasn’t done in taking multiple schools to the Final Four. This is a team that has a shot to run the table year and are better suited to do so than Wichita St. was a few years ago.
-
Houston can defend at a top 5, maybe top 3 level. That means they are in every game before it even tips. If they can score at all, they are a threat.
-
Thanks! I’ll be sure to watch tonight.

Houston had their chance to win a NC. 1983 loaded team with two future hall of famers leads NCState with zero recognizable names and the legend of Jim Valvano is born. Guy Lewis the towel toter of Houston goes into a stall instead of just continue to score nearly at will and ends up on the receiving end of one of basketballs most quintessentially famous plays, the Wittenburg Airball caught by Prince Lorenzo Charles and slammed through. Valvano became famous as he ran around looking for someone to hug. Lewis regretted his decision for the rest of his life.
-
Tucky is tied with Bellarmine with 12 minutes to go. They’ve put up 34 points in 28 minutes against a team that just became Div 1…lol.
-
Kentucky up by 14 now with like 5 minutes to go - - I could of swore I saw some fans with a rope standing behind the Kentucky bench lmao
