I was seriously just talking about this on twitter. 2015 broke him or something. 0 final fours, a loss to Bruce Weber in the tournament, a 9 win season etc

Calamari might be the worst in-game coach in history. Their team is a mess- no spacing at all. They looked totally unprepared for the Zags.

Kentucky came into our house and absolutely steamrolled the future national champs. The underestimates of Cals coaching may be slightly exaggerated. That loss was why I was pessimistic almost til the end about our chances to win it all. I really had no confidence that we could get steamrolled by 20 points and be good enough to win a Natty.

@wissox I believe we had our worst game of the year. We were in a battle for 1st in the B12 when we played that game, and our coach said word for word that the game against 'Tucky was less important than the conference games coming up that week. Did Bill saying that before the game impact our effort? I think it did. Of course, some people tell me I’m all wet for saying that. But, we were looking to play Number 20 Iowa State, then Number 8 Baylor, followed by a date at Number 20 Texas as our next 3 games. And the game was preceded by our triple overtime victory over Texas Tech. So, in that sequence, we played Number 13 Texas Tech, then Number 12 'Tucky, then Number 20 Iowa St, then Number 8 Baylor, and then Number 20 Texas in a row. Run that Tucky game at anytime else in the year, and I think we have a chance to win.
I think them winning that game makes it even better that we won the national championship. AND we took away the all-time wins from them. Tucky also beat UNC by 25 last year. And they lose in the first round. I stand by my statement: Calimari is the worst bench coach in America!

When cal coaches his babies each year he’s teaching a whole new group of starters how to play. I truly believe if Cal had guys that stayed in school he’d have multiple rings. OF COURSE he’s stated he wants to get guys to the NBA. I’d hate for him to be our coach for that reason.

He might have been the worst, but actually, I used to say that about Scott Drew because I didn’t really believe in him, until I had to two seasons ago.

Creighton boxed Tech’s ears last night - beat them by 11. Tech has a 7 footer transfer ( Fardaws Aimaq) who averaged 19 points and 13 boards for Utah St, but he’s been hurt and hasn’t played for the Raiders yet. I think he gets back right before conference starts, so Tech could be a load this year.

One other Cal fact. He and the other sleazy coach Rick Pitino are the only ones to coach three different schools to the final four. That’s just not the sort of thing that coaches who can’t coach do.
BTW when I looked that up, I saw that Ray Meyer coached two different DePaul teams to the Final 4 36 years apart!

Creighton seems determined to win the game for a few plays, then they seem to want to hand the ball to Ark to catch up. Impressive if they could 1) clean up the ball handling, and 2) defend the arc.

Arkansas O is awful It’s Ricky council and Brazille doing pick and rolls that’s literally it
Schiermann hit one from deep and he and Gradey would have been fun
Yes, I’m frustrated Bill took defense over some of the better offensive players. Way easier to teach a scorer how to play defense than take a defensive guy and teach him how to score

Zona and Courtney Ramey looked great
He had 21 on 8-12 shooting 5-5 from deep 6 rebounds (yes, you read that right) 1 steal and 1 turnover
I’d take him next to Juan all day - yes Jethro I pitched him hard as well

Not sure what happened with his recruitment. Think he ultimately went where he was guaranteed the role he wanted.

Also believe NIL was a factor. Something that’s becoming the difference now with these kind of players. We certainly could have used another big with size that could score.
KJ has had 8 in 3 straight. Perhaps he is going to ascend to that average which will at least be respectable.

Really didn’t even try for a big. Made a late play for the kid who ended up at UNC. Reality is they though Zach would be able to score and he has just been turrible.

@BShark I agree. Johnson is a stud.
I think Tang ends up a better coach than Drew. Drew is good and has improved. Drew comes from a bball family and he’s definitely adapted to todays game along with recurring to it.
Something about sitting under a successful coach and then finally doing it your way when the assistant is smart they can take what they like and improve what they didn’t (Tang and Floyd at AZ).
I mean look at Floyd dude lost essentially his entire starting 5 and yet the reloaded this year and he has those guys all gelled and playing well in November! So much for him being just a bag man at Gonzaga he clearly knows how to coach.

Arkansas and San Diego St. has been a great game so far. Hogs currently up 3 in OT in the 3rd place game in Maui.

FYI, KU toughened up the Badgers for USC today and we took care of them in regulation.

They looked very good. New found respect for Wiskey. USC is a tournament team, imo.
