Conference Tournaments

  • SDSU by 6 over NDSU and Gonzaga pulled away down the stretch to beat St. Mary’s by 13. SMC had it down to 2 with about 7:30 before Gonzaga stretched it out.

  • Only 1 bid on the line tomorrow in the Patriot League between Colgate and Navy.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 - appreciate these updates. It will be interesting to see how many KU preseason opponents “punch a ticket”.

  • Wow, that Kiss guy from Bryant seems like quite the jerk. I might have to watch Bryant get pounded in the tournament just to watch that guy lose.

  • Colgate beat Navy pretty easily to win the Patriot League for the second straight season.

  • Big day today as 15 teams will earn automatic bids today. America East, MEAC, MAAC, Big 12, Mountain West, SWAC, Big East, MAC, Big Sky, ACC, C-USA, Pac 12, Southland, WAC and Big West.

UMBC vs. Vermont in the America East

Coppin St. vs. Norfolk St. in the MEAC. Coppin St. has a chance to make history as the worst record to ever make the NCAA Tournament. They are currently 9-22 and and the previous worst record to ever make the tournament is 11-18 by FIU in 1995, UCF in 1996, and Fairfield in 1997.

The MAAC game is between Monmouth and St. Peter’s.

Texas Tech vs. Kansas in the Big 12

San Diego St. vs. Boise St. in the MWC

Texas Southern vs. Alcorn in the SWAC

Creighton vs. Villanova in the Big East

Akron vs. Kent St. in the MAC

Northern Colorado vs. Montana St. in the Big Sky

Virginia Tech vs. Duke in the ACC

Louisiana Tech vs. UAB in the Sun Belt

UCLA vs. Arizona in the Pac 12

A&M-Corpus Christi vs. SE Louisiana in the Southland

Abilene Christian vs. New Mexico St. in the WAC

CSU-Fullerton vs. Long Beach St. in the Big West

  • There are several important games today related to the bubble. Indiana has moved in a positive direction the last two games and another win today likely locks them in the field. Davidson in the A-10 could end up on the bubble if they lose and Dayton is trying to play their way in. Texas A&M is still in the mix after beating Auburn yesterday and a win over Arkansas today would be another big boost for them. SMU is also in the conversation and a win over Memphis would keep their shot alive.

There’s three leagues where a bid could be stolen at this point. Virginia Tech could shrink the bubble, the American where if SMU or Tulane won would be bad for bubble teams and anyone but Davidson in the A10.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Great rundown!

But, really, do you and @BeddieKU23 ever sleep?

  • Vermont beat the hell out of UMBC winning the America East title by 39 points 82-43.

  • @mayjay

It’s optional at this point haha

  • Norfolk St. knocked off Coppin St. in the MEAC title game so we won’t get to see tge first ever 20 loss NCAA Tournament team this year.

  • Updates on other games so far today. Akron by 20 over Kent St. in the MAC title game. Montana St. by 21 over Northern Colorado in the Big Sky. St. Peter’s over Monmouth by 6 in the MAAC title game. Boise St. by 1 over San Diego St. in the MWC title game. Texas Southern by 15 over Alcorn St. in the SWAC. Villanova by 6 over Creighton in the Big East title game. Virginia Tech by 15 over Duke in the ACC title game. UAB is going to beat Louisiana Tech in the C-USA title game.

  • Other games in action right now, UCLA leads Arizona in the 2nd half of the Pac 12 title game, A&M-CC leads SELA in the Southland title game in the 2nd half and NMSU leads ACU in the 1st half of the WAC title game with the Big West game yet to tip.

  • Arizona wins the Pac 12 and have probably locked themselves in as the overall #2 seed and will likely be the 1 seed in the South region. Also, A&M-CC over SE Louisiana for the Southland title.

  • New Mexico St. over ACU by 14 to win the WAC.

  • Long Beach St. up on CS-Fulleron by 9 with about 2 minutes left in the 1st half. I won’t make up for the end of that one so I’ll update it in the morning. Tomorrow, the last 5 bids on the line are the A10, American, Big 10, Ivy, and SEC.

  • Tennessee putting a hurt on A & M from the get go 14-0

  • CS-Fullerton came from behind to beat LBSU last night to win the Big West. Yale just hung on to beat Princeton to win the Ivy League. Davidson leads Richmond by 1 at halftime and Tennessee leads A&M by 9 at halftime.

  • Upset in the A10 as Richmond upsets Davidson and most likely has stolen a bid as Davidson is likely in regardless. Bubble teams blood pressure just spiked with this outcome.

Also, Tennessee beat A&M by 15 as it looked like A&M just ran out of gas today.

  • Houston leads Memphis by 12 at halftime of the American title game and Iowa leads Purdue by 3 at halftime of the Big 10btitle game.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 - is Memphis in the NCAA tourney, in your opinion? Bubble team or definitely in?

Memphis is in and will be an 8-9 seed amd several projections have them in KU’s region. Memphis caught fire in late January and have won 12 of 13 including a regular season sweep of Houston.

  • Lunardi thinks KU will be #1 in the Midwest Region and has Texas Tech as the 3 seed. That would mean 4 meetings in a season. 😳

Lunardi isn’t very accurate though in his projections historically. Even if Tech was the 3 seed in KU’s region, the earliest they would meet is the Elite 8 so not very likely a 4th meeting would happen.

  • It’s pretty likely that the Big 12 teams get spread out. Since the first two rounds are played in pods, it doesn’t really matter which region you are in until the Sweet 16/ Elite 8. It helps to balance regions, especially this year, with no true East team in the likely #1 line. Gonzaga will be #1 overall, and gets the West slot. Arizona will get preference on the next closest, then KU, then Baylor. They can safely put TTech in one of the west regions, because the 2/3 line is full of east teams (Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, Tennessee, Purdue, Wisconsin, Villanova). That’s the benefit of a #1 for KU - staying away from Gonzaga and Arizona. If KU is on the 2 line, they will be in a region with one of them, probably Arizona.

KU won’t be on the 2 line. KU will be tge 1 seed in the Midwest and we likely get Kentucky as our 2 seed.

  • Houston pulled away late from Memphis to get their first win over Memphis this season by 18 to win the AAC. Iowa beat Purdue by 9 to win their first B10 tournament in 16 years.

  • @justanotherfan yes, good thing we won con. Tourney!

  • I like KU’s bracket just fine.

  • Dunno where else to put this. I’ll just leave it here…

Missouri will be on its 7th basketball coach since Bill Self arrived at Kansas. Self is the 8th coach in KU history.

Mizzou should have stuck with Quin Snyder. Hiring a bad coach can set you back years. Firing a good one can set you back decades.

  • @justanotherfan Snyder was in a downward trajectory when Missouri fired him. The Ricky Clemons situation destroyed the momentum he had been building there. Missouri the the NCAA Tournament in Snyder’s first 4 years, but not in his last two and weren’t going to make it the season he got fired. Letting Mike Anderson go to Arkansas was their biggest mistake because he had Missouri in a good place when he left.
