Coach Hot Seat and Players to Poach

Sounds like Beard is going to be UT’s top target, but if an agreement is reached, wouldn’t happen until next Thursday at the earliest because Beard’s buyout drops to $4 million if he goes to another Big 12 school.
-
Those two brothers whose name I’ve forgotten already from EWU are transferring. Doubtful they’d travel east to a school like KU but a 3 point shooting big sounds cool to me!

Groves Bros. We could use another big, especially one who can shoot.

Wow Beard likes to flip flop.

@BeddieKU23 Are referring to when he was coach at UNLV for a few days then Tech offered him their job?
Beard is a UT grad and got his coaching start their under Tom Lenders. That’s why Beard’s name is connected to Texas.

That’s good info.

The younger one Jacob - not taking anything away from his grizzly bear brother - seems to be a gamer.

you think Beard would take the Texas job? - -he might. - Thing is not really sure if it would be a step up actually. - -Sure deep Pockets but as of this point Still think beard at Tech has them straight with Texas on the Basketball level- , now Beard goes there and recruits well which he seems to do/then the facilities probably better i all probability bigger budget, and maybe just maybe draw some fans. Going to be pretty ard to surpass football at Texas in popularity. - -I think if they go after him - I just don’t think he will Leave but ohhh those deep pockets
-
Yeah I knew he was connected to Texas but its still a crap move interconference, no wonder kids have no loyalty to schools anymore
-
@jayballer67 Beard with Nike money behind would far exceed what he can currently get at Tech with UA money. We all saw what Rick Barnes could do when UT was at their peak in the 2000’s and that was a top 10 program winning Big 12 titles, contending for national titles, and sending a crap load of players to the NBA that far exceeded anything KU players of the era accomplished in the NBA. Beard in Austin means Texas will start getting KD and LaMarcus Aldridge caliber players on a regular basis again.
Chris Beard is definitely going to consider whatever offer UT puts on the table.
-
Chris beard Is leading candidate but there will be ever candidate that will be interviewing 4 the Texas coaching job

Oh ya I know Beard could for sure bring excitement to Texas. It’s going to be interesting. Shaka had some pretty decent players - -not KD good but still pretty dam god he just couldn’t Coach them. Kia JonesDr
Brad Townsend who covers the Dallas Mavericks - -quoted as saying Beard to Texas is already a DONE DEAL.
Townsend got a call from a College Basketball Source that he trusts who say Chris Beard is ABSOLUTELY going to Texas - - -it’s A DONE DEAL 100 %. - -Beard’s buyout right now is 4 million - -but after the 1st it drops to 2 Millon - -only thing that might hold Texasa back is they just got through paying out 15 Mililon for the football coach
-
Would love to see Abmas’ name in the portal… but only if he ends up playing for us
-
Obanor would be a take as well
-
Yep I would take both.
-
@jayballer67 The buyout information is incorrect. Beard’s buyout is currently $5 million and drops to $4 million on April 1.
Beard’s buyout isn’t going to be the issue for Texas since they didn’t fire Shaka and have to pay a buyout for him, but annual salary might be an issue as Texas would have to pay Beard more money per year than they’re paying Sarkisian.
If Beard ultimately chooses to stay in Lubbock (it is a possibility), other names to look out for are Dana Altman (Oregon), Eric Musselman (Arkansas), John Beilein, and former player and current Brooklyn Nets assistant Royal Ivey.

The only thing with Royal lvey is he doesn’t have college coaching experience
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Don’t like Altman. Struck me as a douche in postgame when Oregon beat us a couple years ago. Not sure how I feel about Musselman yet, and i always liked Beilein, back since his stint at WV when they were Big East (even though he beat us at Michigan).

Yeah, probably sour grapes lingering from when he used to regularly get his ass beat by us when he coached at K-State.
-
@approxinfinity Musselmen is a job hopping crook. I actually met him once and he’s a giant self centered dick. I hope Texas is not seriously considering him. I don’t want to see his face on a consistent basis.
-
@rockchalkwyo i kinda assumed that based on sideline demeanor, but hadnt dug much.
-
Indiana may have a coach here shortly Mike woodson A assistant coach from the New York Knicks will be taking the Indiana job likely to be Official. Now it is
-
Royal Ivey interviewed for the Texas job today
-
Surprised Hoiberg isn’t in the conversation. He’s fallen completely off the radar.
-
Mike Boyton got a 7 year extension to stay with the Pokes

Yoooo Bill Self get on the phone with him.
-
When he’s done call Rocket Watts, now in the portal
-
Will really be interesting to see how full on free agency plays out. This seems so crazy on the surface. So many good players on the market that could step in day one and be an impact player.
I kind of like it, but I probably would hate it if I were a coach.
-
Didn’t really know where to put this but anyways - - Should know more on Chris Beard tomorrow , according to Texas Boards - - Beard is meeting with Kirby Holcut today. - - I think he stays at Tech, But Longhorns got some pretty deep pockets
-
Oklahoma is closing in on hiring loyal Chicago"s coach porter moder as it’s next head basketball coach
-
Really thought Moser could get a better job

I think OU is a damn good job.
-
Adam Miller surprisingly leaving Illinois. His mom told me he was high on KU before committing to U of I. Maybe he comes west a bit. Don’t have a working relationship with the mom anymore so I can’t recruit on the sly. He’d be a nice get.
-
I saw Porter Moser at a tournament two years ago. I told him I still had some eligibility left if he needed somebody.
-
Send him your flag running video!

UNC hires Hubert Davis as its next basketball coach.
-
Most of the comments I’m reading from UNC fans aren’t too thrilled about it.

I’m with them. This is like hiring Bama’s RB coach to replace Saban and not even calling Dabo. Chris f***** Holtmann interviewed. Didn’t even approach Few. Total clown show.
-
You called it though @FarmerJayhawk
-
@FarmerJayhawk I just read they reached out to Few and Wright. Both turned it down.
-
@Woodrow I knew about Wright. I don’t think Bubba made a serious push for any outside candidate. I bet it was a “hey I have to call so it looks like I tried before I move to real candidates”
-
The way the UNC coaching search played out is historically significant and I don’t know how much that’s being talked about. Even here on these boards, the general consensus was that UNC is the best job in college basketball based on another thread.
UNC basically saying we’re going to hire a black man to succeed Roy Williams without seriously interviewing anyone else is a big damn deal and I don’t think a lot of people realize how big of a deal this is not just at North Carolina, but in college basketball in general to see a black man leading arguably a top 3 job in the nation.

If it works out, would be huge. If Hubert ends up like Doh, WOOOOOOF. UNC may stop hiring black people altogether.

Hubert Davis has a helluva lot better pedigree than Doherty did though with 12 years in the NBA as a player and a decade already within Carolina’s program.
Doherty was also very clearly and publicity not UNC’s top choice during that search unlike Davis.

From clearly not qualified to very underwhelming
-
Terrible hire for UNC. - -at least not AT ALL a popular choice coming from UNC fans - last one they wanted
-
Seems like a temporary hire to calm the recruits/players and provide continuity? Have they finalized the length of the contract? Hubert seems meh. Never very impressive as an announcer.
