2021 Transfer Talk/List

So, what is this class going to be ranked?
been hearing various outlets - -KU should be a top 5 ranked team this coming Season but that was before Remy. - Now hearing should be a top 3 behind Gonzaga and another. - - I know and it had been awhile 247 sports had us as the # 6 recruiting class . - They don’t account for the transfers, not taken into consideration they said

No.
Not necessarily intentionally, but I think that he has. Coaches can’t wait for players to take too long - which is the flaw of the rule - to make up their minds. I wouldn’t wait for them. If Agbaji doesn’t go pro, don’t be surprised if he transfers.
-
Ochai 100% has a spot on the team if he wants it, Bill would figure something out.

Agbaji is bye-bye, for better or worse.
-
Right he decided that though, he was not forced out or recruited over.
-
The glaring weakness for this team will be athleticism. Hopefully the pieces fit enough to compensate
-
i’m not even sure how some of these transfers are going to get a lot of playing time. 13 kids ready to play but only 7-8 getting meaningful minutes means a lot of kids not participating. on most teams the 13 players includes a couple walk on types and developmental players. Bill is loading up knowing some of them will transfer in the not too distant future
-
Player retention has passed its peak, its now just a revolving door of coming and going. Expect 1-2 transfers from the 4 HS kids signed after this upcoming year. We have 4 one year rentals & I would fully expect this is McCormack & Wilson’s last season in Lawrence.
Expect 6-8 graduations/transfers/early departures. The new norm

-
@BShark It will definitely be refreshing to see guards getting layups again.
Probably one of the more underrated improvements in next year’s squad will be transition buckets… Remy and Yesufu should help there a ton.
-
@BShark agree. But it would’ve been much easier for him to return if we weren’t now so loaded. That’s what I meant when saying recruited over. Like you said before, Bill’s not playing and he obviously couldn’t wait.

A Ton - - Remy is quick , maybe not DOT quick but still quick and the dam kid had motor Runs in 5 th gear most the time - love his game

teams not only Kansas can expect big turnovers yearly - will for sure be the new norm. - Like I posted yesterday we might see a lot of these freshmen just passing College, kids that aren’t really NBA level at this stage BUT would be very good College players. With that being said as long as the portol being the way it is now - -the Transfers these Coach’s going to have a tendency to lean more towards experienced College players, players that have experienced the wars of P-5 - instead of very good High School kids that true are good but raw and need time to develop - it’s really going to get insane. Makes my head spin.
Would be very interesting to see/know how many other Schools have as many transfers/new additions as Kansas - 10 is just NUTS
-

Oh I think with the additions of Martin & Yesufu to name two I think Bill got exactly what he was looking for and we are more athletic for sure with those additions - much more speed I think this team is going to be very interesting to watch.
Everything I’m hearing KU should be listed as probably a pre-season top 3 team in the Nation , People talking KU should be considered very Seriously as a National contender next year
-
We might be seeing another transfer out of the program.
-
@jayballer67 no doubt. It helped us this year, without question. Not sure how I feel about the new rule though tbh. It might gut the mid-majors, but then again if teams have fewer scholis to give due to taking on transfers that might open things up a bit as far as mids being able to bring in highschool talent. We shall see. Personally, I think they’ll become farm systems for KU, UK, UNC etc. K hasn’t got onboard yet, right?

Ya I think your right. - -I don’t think now could be wrong but I don’t believe that Duke OR UNC either one has really hasn’t dove head first into this, more surprised with Davis - not more involved

Then with that being said I would think my thought would be Harris quite possibly
-
I will leave everyone to draw their own conclusions on this lol.
Though I will also say, I don’t hate Bobby being the back-up at the 1/2 spots at all.

Dammit man lmao, we you doing this lol. - -I will stick with Harris if it isn’t one of our new additions and you referring to as Bobby has to pettiford.
if this does turn out to be true and my guess happens to be right - -hate to see it. Dejuan a nice little PG, really good/quick on the defensive end, I think he could develop and be a really solid player. Think his shooting like they were saying on a sports caast yesterday - -he shooting ability might be a little under vaulvd - might be a little better shooter then soe think. - -BUT I guess it’s just the /nature of the game , if this is who it is - -THank you for your yr Dejuan and the best of luck
-
@BShark I’d take Bobby over Harris. I’d also take Bobby over Braun, but if I had to choose I’d prefer that it be Harris and I like him as a player.
-
It’s going to be Agbaji, let’s not over complicate this.
-
@approxinfinity said in 2021 Transfer Talk/List:

Supposedly Ochai AND a transfer out. We will see.
-
@BShark why would Och transfer?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Ochai is leaving for pro ball of any sort, not transferring. The rumor is there will be a transfer in addition to that.
-
I like Harris. He’s so close to the Braun family too.
-
Seems like a great kid, I hope he stays but if he does leave I don’t think it’s unreasonable with how many PGs Self added.
-
@BShark self is really bothered by his size.
-
@approxinfinity said in 2021 Transfer Talk/List:

Now our buddy saying through rumor could be a transfer – - - If it’s a transfer that’s leaving would be one all these new transfer in. - -With the Comment that was made about not having any problem wit Bobby backing up the i and or 2 - - at first I thought it was Harris that was being talked about - -but with BShark saying which we all knew anyways Agbaji is Gone , but saying a transfer - -I’m shifting my thinking that very well could be Yesufu . - Hope I’m wrong who the hell knows lol - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
I will root hard for 'Juan whether he’s a Jayhawk or elsewhere. Great kid; love his vision and intensity. I think he’s going to be a stone cold killer by junior year, and I don’t want him to leave.
-
@approxinfinity if the Harris rumors are true a lot of Jayhawk fans are going to be sad.
-
Does Bill know what to do with Harris, how to optimize him? I think that’s a fair question. Bill does better work with, well…guards like Remy, Yesufu and Pettiford. As well as Epps, a 22 guard recruit that KU can very realistically get.
Also 4 PGs is a lot, and all are wanting to play. One of them probably isn’t going to get much run. I will miss Harris, but breaking in Pettiford more this year isn’t the worst. I think his ceiling is tremendously high.
I would also bank on probably 2 redshirts this year. That’s one way to assuage the situation a bit. Cuffe and KJ are prime candidates.
-
@BShark Curry seems like he could use a redshirt… Depends on who we land if Harris leaves
-
I’ll be pretty bummed if Harris leaves, which isn’t a done deal by any stretch. I see some Aaron Miles in his game and he turned out pretty solid. I’d rather have Harris long term than Ochai, who if he comes back it’s only for a year. He won’t take the extra covid season.
-
Harris anticipates well on D too, that’s where I can see some fun transition w/those guards on the floor, granted they’re short.
-
BShark Think I got it now - - back to someone transferring out. - - So I go back to my 1st thought and like most others here NOT crazy about that if it happens.
Dejuan is very solid already on defense - -quick. - - - like I said yesterday when listening to the local sports talk show here in Topeka and they were talking to Jesse Newell who covers KU , and he was saying they think people are kind of overlooking his shooting. He really didn’t take that many shots but when he did was pretty decent. Think if not already will become a fan favorite. - It’s just comes down to numbers , Jesse said if Martin didn’t stick - - - - Harris would be your starting point guard. got the experience , been through the wars would start over Pettiford. - -I could live with that , BUT I think Martin sticks , would be fine.
Use Martin as your starting PG & then use Harris as his backup. - - Let Pettiford Redshirt along with KJ & Clemence. - - Or let Harris and Pettiford get after it just let it be worked out on the floor. - Hate to see him leave IF indeed it turns out to be the case
-
Its simple, Pettiford > Harris. This doesn’t feel like HCBS initiating it though, more likely Harris approached him about it and had a talk about the future. I’m sure the official stance is that there will be a competition for the playing time, etc., but based on the game footage I’ve seen, I’m very convinced that Pettiford is the future starting PG for KU. After these last few signings it may not be next year but he won’t be redshirted, he’ll get a lot of run to get him ready to take the keys the year after.

The ONE big thing about this though competition in practice doesn’t translate to game time play. - Experience speaks volumes, which with us seeing a lot of these experienced players transferring in here, not only here but all across the nation. Very Very true Pettiford better player - BUT Pettiford is also in-experienced , where Harris is experienced. Done been down that road. For this Season if Remy sticks I am fully convinced Remy is for sure the starting PG , but I would be willing to bet if Dejaun sticks he will be getting the better mop up/relief minutes for Remy. Pettiford needs time to grow into P-5 ball. Seen it to many times where kids come in with better reputation possibly higher rated then others - -we know how that goes - -now for 2022 ya after having that year to adjust I could very easily see Pettiford starting but as for just walking right in and getting major minutes and over taking Harris at this point - umm don’t think thats gonna happen

LMAO - - - score - - that’s pretty good made me laugh lol - - The kid obviously far from the best on this team but you know what ? - - This kid gives everything he has got always trying his best and one of the things I love the most about Mitch? - - He LOVES KU - -I mean this kid is KU through and through. Who would of ever thought he would be one of the better shot blockers on the team , I mean sure very true he gets beat on defense quite often BUT the kid recovers he may gete beat on the drive - - he manages to recover and at least have a shot to fix that and block the shot from behind. – He’ll take that charge - - he gets dirty gets on the floor after loose balls - - whatever it takes. - -These are the type of kids I love playing , guys that genuinely love the School - -Always a Jayhawk MITCH.
I know it’s crazy but when I seen the twitter you posted - -had a flash thought holy Crap it’s Mitch saying he had decided to move on with his personal life lmao - - I know , I know whaaaaa . but I did lol

Self hasn’t used the words point guard to describe Pettiford so I don’t think Self views him as a lead guard at this point. Self has described Pettiford as a combo guard which in Self speak means Pettiford is a 2 and will mostly be off the ball this year. In Self’s eyes, Pettiford and Harris are not in competition with one another, Pettiford is competing Braun, Yesufu, and JCL for minutes because those three guys can play the 2 spot and in Yesufu’s case, probably the starter at the 2 spot next season.

As you listed Braun , Yesufu , & JCL - is just another reason I feel would be a good reason for Pettiford to redshirt , adjust/ grow into the P-5 level ball give some time to learn -develop more. I think he will be solid but this coming season we already have Depth at that spot & again think that spot is going to be taken for starting minutes anyways by Yesufu
-
by taking all these transfers i think Self is telling Harris he needs to transfer. He might be telling Braun the same thing. you can’t fill a 13 man roster with 13 kids who all think and probably are good enough to play D1 bball. in the past most programs would give scholarships to 2-3 kids who they knew were more “glue” and “program” type kids who would tolerate sitting on the bench. Self is not giving scholarships to any kids like that. the last guy on the KU bench could be a starter at many P5 programs. this is going to be worse than the NBA. the top college programs are going to have different players every year.

I don’t agree with this take at all. Three of four transfers Self brought in are one year players to fill in the gaps on the roster until the freshmen are ready next season.
It’s not hard at all to see how Self envisions this roster developing long term with an eventual starting line up a couple of years from now consisting of some combination of Harris, Pettiford, and Cuffe in the back court and some combination of Clemence, Curry, and Adams in the front court with Clemence and Adams after Curry moves on. The only spot Self is missing in the long term on this roster is a wing which has already been addressed in the 2022 class with Gradey Dick.
Bill Self is chasing a national title this season before the roster takes a step back next season and this team as constructed appears talented enough to do so as KU should have 6 upper classmen in the rotation next season including 4 seniors. Self turned one the least experienced rosters last season into one of the most experienced this season.
-
@JAYHAWKFAN214 I don’t want him to, but I’m not so sure. Doesn’t his brother play at Mizzou? I think he’s still there, right? And didn’t one of his parents go there too? I’m a Braun fan and don’t him to go anywhere, just saying.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 don’t agree with all of what you posted, but do most of it.
