2021 Transfer Talk/List

The Eastern Washington big that burned us in the portal too. He’s considering Texas and Oklahoma lol

Maybe, but did we need and 8th big? I would have taken him but I can see why he picked Texas.
-
@BShark remember vital fell on him and punctured his lung, long recoup
-
What about Wilson’s buddy from OU? Harmon?

Apparently they are actually not close. Heard that KU won’t even talk to Harmon because Jalen will be back and they can’t co-exist. RJ also doesn’t like Harmon and RJ and Jalen are of course close. This is all hearsay of course but the guy I am hearing it from has always had correct info about Jalen. Lives in Texas, knows his HS coach I believe.
-
@BShark Self can’t sign everyone. he already has too many players to keep happy. he is going to have a lot of transfers already.
-
Transfers are the new normal
-
@BeddieKU23 ughhh
-
I also think the new normal will be signing as many quality players as possible. See who thrives, and the disgruntled ones can leave to find more fertile pastures. But from a coach’s perspective, those guys still provide valuable practice minutes.
I think one reason we didn’t do so well this year is because our scout team couldn’t make our offense better with effective D, especially Gethro.
-
@mayjay The KU bench was heinously bad this year by KU standards. Definitely didn’t help like you said.
Another thing will be low and mid majors are going to have their better players leave for big schools much more often now once they prove they can play.
-
Pre pandemic transfer numbers had leveled out around 700 players per off-season. We’re around 1500 now but I don’t think we’ll see numbers this high on a regular basis going forward because of the rule only allowing players to transfer once without sitting out a year. I also don’t see numbers going back to pre pandemic numbers either. I think we’ll end up seeing numbers closer to around 1,000 players moving per off-season.
I do think most transfers will be freshmen who don’t pan out or get minutes they expect and low and mid major players getting cherry picked to fill in gaps on P5 rosters.
-
So is there still any other names we should kind of keep our eye on OR are we done ? -Any other players that might be interested ?

Do not think we are done
-
KU still needs a 2/3 style player for sure and should be the priority with the one for sure scholarship available and a pure wing depending on what Ochai does which I believe he’ll be gone. The staff also needs to keep in contact with a starting caliber 4 in case Wilson makes a mistake and doesn’t return.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think it’s fairly telling in regards to Wilson that Bishop ended up at Texas. Of course things can change. Sure hope he comes back.
-
Marcus Williams to Texas A&M

Makes sense. Bossi said he needed to be back closer to home in Texas. A&M also needs guys badly.
-
@BShark @mayjay no doubt. Another thing that the new transfer rule will help to bring about is the deserved death of the OAD rule. It might help the mid-majors too, since with so many of players transferring to P5 schools (exhausting their scholarship limits) more highschool talent will be available to sign than there used to be.

The NCAA has zero control over the OAD rule. That’s part of the NBA CBA and will be around for at least 2-3 more years. With more players going the G-League route, I don’t necessarily see the NBA getting rid of the OAD rule when they redo their next CBA.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Immediately playing after transferring might actually hurt the NBA “minor league” as players use the opportunity to go someplace where they can play more without the pressure of staying on a competitive roster for not that much money. That could help mid-major schools get disenchanted top 100’s.
-
NCAA basketball is being destroyed right before our eyes.

I don’t see the new rule hurting the G-League at all and this probably actually helps them attract more kids in reality by selling kids on not dealing with the politics of recruiting.
-
@wissox in what way?
-
Tanner groves is off to Norman Oklahoma and Jacob
-
@JAYHAWKFAN214 probably kick our rears
-
KU beat him once, and will do it again.
-
Unreal
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I know that… And I do see the NBA getting rid of it.

Slater had this one quite awhile ago interestingly enough.

Wonder if he’ll be right about Brakefield as well

Pretty rare when he misses.
He played it PERFECTLY with the Tyson Walker gif choice.
-
@BeddieKU23 That team could be salty. I think they are returning their 3 best players and then are adding Brooks and Jeffries.
Sleeper in the SEC for sure.
-
@Kcmatt7 SEC always has a ton of talent these days. Strong ass league.
-
Lots of funny money to throw around.
-
Charlie Moore has transferred to Miami

WOW Interesting
-
@Kcmatt7 I probably overstated it, but this permitting of kids to just up and leave 4 months until next season starts to stir is disturbing. I don’t know if this is permanent, or just caused by COVID-19 but if it is, recruiting becomes near impossible.
-
Porter Moser seems to be picking up some decent pieces for his 1st year at Oklahoma - -Get’s transfer from Duke Goldwire - Picks up the Grooves Brothers Tanner & Jacob bot had really decent games against us, off to a good start
-
@wissox let’s give it a year and see how it shakes out…
I don’t think it ruined basketball the last several years where transfer numbers have skyrocketed. If anything it will/has created more parity. As I’ve stated multiple times now - the entire elite 8 had a transfer on the roster getting big minutes this year.
Teams like Baylor, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Houston, and Oregon State had historical seasons and I would say a good chunk of their success is due to transfers…
I also think it is a positive change for players. You get 4 years and now you get to spend them trying to get playing time/finding the level you belong at. Guys who would have to decide between sitting out a year or play another season at some directional school can go play with the big boys where they belong. Guys who are bench players who could start elsewhere can make that move and get PT.
I think it also keeps coaches from being such assholes. There is almost no denying that college coaches can all but get away with murder at practice with a few exceptions. Mike Rice coached college basketball for 6 seasons - and he was literally throwing basketballs at players heads. Now he may be the worst of the worst, but my point is simply that if he was able to do that (or anything close) for six seasons others are getting away with some pretty major abuse.
Instead, you have to treat players with respect and actually coach vs scream. This should really, really, really put an end to the Bob Knight coaching style at most schools. I think of what happened at Cincinnati this year. The entire team left and the school literally had nothing else to do but fire the coach because the team had turned on him.
TLDR - I think it is a good thing for players from multiple standpoints and I think it is going to cause parity across the P5. Should be far from the death of college basketball. It may be SLIGHTLY less enjoyable to watch as a fan because you aren’t going to have near the number of 4-year guys (especially at KU), but it balances out because following the moves happening right now has it’s own entertainment value.
-
@jayballer67 Moser is going to be a pain in our ass.
-
@wissox I don’t like it either
-
Good points.
One thing to add that I see as a negative is how are fans supposed to get to know these kids that are constantly leaving. The 4 year guy seems like it will be a dinosaur here now. 1/2 year rentals, basically a whole new OAD system. No argument for your other points.
-
How about the kid who transfers in for his last year only and gets a senior night speech?
Strange days.
-
For the zillions with no pro prospects, I wonder what the effect will be on the overall bb graduation rate. RPIs are going to be in upheaval, I would think.
-
PG Sahvir Wheeler- Georgia in the portal. Going to attact a lot of attention
Miller Kopp to Indiana
