Furphy out for Friday's game vs Yale
-
Self says Furphy headed to Australia for a family commitment that Self has known about for months. Self didn’t elaborate on what the commitment is but that he’ll miss 1 game.
Mari time!
-
Christmas holiday perhaps
-
Hope he comes back!

If Timberlake gets too many minutes we could lose this one. Jamari and Jankovic need go step up
-
For some perspective, Yale has lost to Vermont and Fairfield this month. There is no situation in which too many minutes for Timberlake should equal a loss, at home, to Yale.
-
He is allergic to nerds.
-
Am I crazy or did it seem like Elmarko had more time on the ball vs Indiana?
I’d like to see more of that, please.
May as well give Timberlake plenty of time to find his way.

that’s what I’m saying about Jankovich -why not give him some run with the starters, the way Timberlake has played, can’t be any worse and we know he can hit the three, which we need. We were looking - -not now but were looking for addition to roster, might be right there under our nose. With Furphy not there Friday would be the perfect time for Jank to play some , be a good player to brak guys spells - I think it would be worth a look anyways
-
@BeddieKU23 We play down to Yale-caliber opponents.

If KU somehow lost to Yale, it wouldn’t be because of Timberlake playing too many minutes. There’d be many, many other reasons before that.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 That would not be the sole reason but Timberlake is bad enough to cost us a game that we would have won otherwise

Yale’s not that team though. Timberlake could play all 40 minutes against Yale and KU would still win.
-
I’m for playing him. Give him some rope. If he’s open, shoot, in the flow of the game. Focus on his D! Shots will go down, have some fun.
-
I think that’s a bad take. I also don’t understand the panic
-
I like the idea of bumping Jamari ahead of Timberlake on the minutes chart. At this point, it seems like his development is more important for us to make a serious March run.

And, Timberlake has proven he can score at least against Yale-caliber competition. I think we will need his (demonstrated) 3 pt capability at some point, and I would like to see him get a chance to play meaningful minutes and get into the flow. See if he can get his confidence back. He still has the best stroke on the team, even if the ball isn’t yet going into the bucket. Not to say that I wouldn’t also like McDowell to get more minutes.
-
Nick is broken. I’d like to see the freshmen get all those minutes.
-
Since Coach Self and staff see these guys every day in practice, I’ll reluctantly defer to his substitutions. Yes, when I see Nick enter the game I cringe. When Remy Martin entered the games early in the championship season, I cringed and wondered what coach was thinking. So, I’ll sit and watch and await the day we see what coach believes Nick brings to this team.
-
I have not lost trust in Timberlake.
It seems to me that he is pressing with P5 intensity.
With coaching and self-belief he can come out of it and become a contributor.
-
Well Nick isn’t playing much so that tells you what he thinks of him. Remy played a lot when he was healthy and not clashing with his coach.
-
I agree with others in that we aren’t at practices and don’t know everything pertinent on how minutes should be distributed. But the eye test is clear (up to this point) that Jamari brings energy and optimism to the floor, and that usually translates into him being a part of some big positive plays. We’ve seen very little of that with Timberlake, in fact, quite the opposite… and we all watch hoping he doesn’t give away too many easy baskets while we’ve lost some of the optimism thinking he’s going to get hot on the trey line. He’s become very predictable and is easily scouted… they’ll give him just enough shooting space so he hurries up on his shot.
I don’t like to sound negative… but we haven’t seen many shining moments to now. It is possible he can figure out his offense soon… but what about his defense? Meanwhile, we are seeing Jamari play with fearlessness and stepping up in big moments (like an upperclassman).
It is starting to become VERY HARD leaving Jamari on the bench for most of the game!
-
@drgnslayr spot on, I’d bet a hefty amount especially with Furphy out, Mari get good minutes tomorrow
-
Mari is all over the place in a good way. Most freshmen are all over the place in a bad way.
-
Furph back in town for those wondering.
