Super weird lol

I think he has to since he actually enrolled, buuuuut seems weird all around.
Confirmed. He enrolled at UCSB so this would be his second transfer and has to sit.
-
Did Parker Braun recruit Clemence to UCSB initially or something?
-
So the question is - - how serious is this talk ? - is it just some smoke about the possibility of it happening of he coming back to KU OR is thee fire with that Smoke and very very probable it’s happening ?
-
Man, this is an insane offseason! Welcome back Zach?
Does he have a good relationship with the KU staff still?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk better than Udeh, which admittedly isn’t saying much

In one case the player is delusional, in the other case it’s the mom.

Still think Zach can figure things out and give us some solid minutes after a focused redshirt year to develop.

I do too my friend. I think that he can help us down the line, IF this turns out
-
@approxinfinity he can’t get much worse! 🫣
-
I’m not sure, I don’t see how this helps us much. Don’t love the idea of tying up a scholarship for several more years for a practice body.
-
I think Zach is probably a high character guy with high BBIQ which makes a great bench and practice player.
I like that he has to redshirt and his only focus is getting better. He knows he’ll sit behind Dickinson again next season so no drama there. So as a redshirt senior he might finally get his shot. I’m okay with that. Three more off-seasons with Ramsey.

It’s kind of amusing the Bill thinks he wants a finesse big but when it comes down to it he just won’t play them.

Lol he loathes finesse bigs but keeps trying em out. He loves the TRob, Dokes and the athletic bangers.
-
I’ve said since he got here that Zach Clemence would be an ideal stretch 4 for Kansas. We’ve seen flashes of what he can do against Oklahoma and some other games. He just needs to focus on his defense and agility during his redshirt season so that he can guard better because that’s what held him back the most the past two seasons.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I really don’t think he can add enough athleticism to play the 4. We’ve had significantly more success with a wing-type of guy who can put the ball on the floor a bit and really play in transition at that spot. Zach is just a Missouri Valley Conference-level 5. Maybe not even that…
My hope is that in 3 years he’s turned himself into a Landen Lucas kind of player with the bonus that he can shoot the 3 a little bit. That would be the highest upside I think he has.
-
The problem with Zach to me is the hype.
He’s a skilled big who can shoot! We have absolutely zero evidence that he can actually shoot. Obviously I don’t attend practice, but in games he doesn’t have a great percentage. Even worse, his free throw percentages in his two years have been bad. Not a good sign he’s a good shooter.
So what is he? We’ve seen his toughness (blood everywhere!). Like that.
We’ve seen him battle. Like that.
He’s long. Potential for rebounding. Like that.
I’d settle for a hard nosed big with a good touch near the hoop.
-
Well guess no more what IF Zach DOES return - -he IS BACK and enrolled in Classes Coach Self has confirmed
-
Summer Bill might be here with a late addition.

Visiting Friday

@BShark Bill just can’t help but fill all his schollies.
Would be a super solid addition. Would add much needed depth at the wing spot.

Death, taxes, Bill filling the roster no matter what.

We really need another solid big so really sucks that KJ is hamstringing us there. But I guess another guard is fine

Or is Self taking this route because he’s thinking there’s a decent chance he won’t have Morris for some or all of the season now and needed another stater/rotation level guard to fill that spot? Horton is a career 38% 3 point shooter on a faily high volume of shots.
His value to the team is that he can space the floor because he’s perimeter player that’s a proven good shooter at the P5 level based on his time at Pitt. He wouldn’t be asked to carry the scoring load, he’d be the guy you camp in the corner or wing and be the guy that gets kicked out to on drives when the defense collapses. He does fill a legitimate need for KU and I don’t think there’s a quality big that anyone here would be happy with that would come in and be okay playing behind Hunter and/or KJ.
-

I really don’t think KJ is hamstringing the front court. Hunter Dickinson is a good enough 3 point shooter that he can run a lot of the sets intended for stretch 4’s in Self’s offense while KJ guards 4’s on defense. I also believe Self is planning on using Kevin McCullar as the primary back up at the 4 spot.
If Hunter plays 32 mpg, Parker Braun should be able play 8 mpg and not be a complete liability on both ends. To me at least, tge front court is in good shape in terms of playable depth as there are 4 guys who should be able to play and look like they belong on a P5 roster and could be 5 if Marcus Adams is playable from the get go.
The back court is where I have more concerns about playable depth going into the season. Is Morris going to be able to play because of his legal issues? Is Timberlake good enough to defend at the P5 level to play 15 mpg or so? Can Dejuan shoot enough 3’s to force defenses to respect that part of his game? Can Jackson play like the potential OAD a lot of sites are projecting him to be? Can McDowell contribute anything but garbage minutes?
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 “don’t recruit anyone else at my spot or I’m leaving” will do it
-
Sounds like we only have 8 guys who will see real playing time this year. Seven if Morris has legal issues. I included Braun in that mix, so assuming he can step up to this level. If not, maybe even 6.
Other than Elmarko, not counting on the other freshmen. so, another proven player doesn’t hurt, despite the fact that this will be his FOURTH school. really hate that.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Yikes and Bill puts up with that? If we could have gotten Nelson but then kj transfers what would you do?
-
@kuballin10 if there’s one thing Bill is best at its managing egos.
Man, if you gave me the choice for next year I’m taking Nelson. But he wasn’t a guarantee by any means and if you chase off KJ and miss on Nelson you’re in a world of hurt. So I get the strategy but also the Adams family was being difficult here when they really didn’t need to be.
-
@kuballin10 said in Transfer Rumblings:

KJ is a proven double digit scorer in the B12 and above average defender against top level competition. Don’t forget that Self subbed KJ in on the final possession of the title game for defense.
I’m sure plenty of people will disagree, but I’d rather have KJ than Grant Nelson because you’ll get two years out of KJ as opposed to most likely one year out of Nelson. While there are areas Nelson is definitely better than KJ, rebounding being the most notable, Nelson isn’t better than KJ in enough areas to make me say that I’d rather have Nelson for one year instead of KJ for two.
This is also why I don’t think losing Udeh and Zuby is that bad in the long run. Udeh left when he found out Hunter would most likely be here for two years. I will absolutely take two years of Dickinson over three years of Udeh and/or Zuby because Dickinson will be in the running for NPOY both of his years and I don’t believe Udeh or Zuby have that ceiling.
TLDR version: Grant Nelson isn’t better enough than KJ overall to justify bringing Nelson in for one year and losing KJ for two years. Compare that to Hunter Dickinson whonI absolutely believe is better than Udeh and Zuby by enough to justify losing those two for three year to get Dickinson’s production for the next two years.

I will also say that no, Self doesn’t put up with stuff like that when he doesn’t believe the player has the value to justify that. Self made the decision that two years of KJ was better than one year of Grant Nelson and I agree with that overall evaluation and see my above post for my explanation.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 For this year if it brings us a title I’d ride with whoever whether Nelson or KJ.
With how it was outlined by you and Farmer I’d go KJ for sure. I’m curious to see how he does playing that 4 spot this year in terms of what kind of numbers he puts up.
The inverted Jokic game with Hunter would be legit!
I love me some KJ so easy to trust Bill on this one yet two footers that can rebound and score a multitude of ways (Hunter and Nelson) would have been fun to see.

Frustrating as hell because we all like KJ but we should’ve went after Nelson.
-
I like KJ, but getting recruited over happens.
Toughen up, buttercup. You’ll play more minutes than you deserve as Bill loves ya
-
Horton visit is unlikely to happen. Texas closed on him last night.

@BShark that’s what I meant. Thought maybe his legal problems were cleared up by now. So we don’t know if he’s going to PR?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 he’s not. The trial is around those dates.

that was my guess seeing that he’s the only international guy we offered but idk. He’s more of a wing than a guard
