Transfer Rumblings

  • @Kcmatt7 said in Transfer Rumblings:

@BShark probably, but I don’t know whose minutes he takes.

In an ideal scenario, Harris isn’t playing 33 mpg so that might be a place to get some more minutes for Timberlake.

  • Hopefully there are enough absolute dog walks we can pull the starters at like the 33 minute mark

  • @FarmerJayhawk …and the reserves lay wood on them. No more deep bench redheads to keep the score respectable lol

  • Get me Nelson

  • Question is, if Nelson is that much of a quality player, would he be satisified with coming of the bench ? - -Would he come off the Bench ?

  • @BShark said in Transfer Rumblings:

Bossi just said to watch out for KU/Grant Nelson so uh there is that.

The academics part of this will be fascinating if he does indeed decide to go back to school and those rumors are true. Can he still practice? Can he do the summer trip? Can he play in exhibitions? Can KU find a way to get him enough Summer credits to make it work? How many other schools does that eliminate if it really is an issue?

  • @FarmerJayhawk 2009-2010 roster had that kind roster/ability.

    • Morris
    • Morris
    • Collins
    • Aldrich
    • Morningstar
    • Henry
    • Reed
    • Withey
    • T-Rob
    • EJ
    • Teahan

Only guy over 28 minutes a game was Sherron.

  • @Kcmatt7 I believe the answers to those are yes, yes but not play, no. I asked my sister (family dinners are RIVETING let me tell you) about what it would take since she’s THE expert on all things academics, “Depends. Have to pass 18 hours between fall and spring and a minimum of 6 a semester so if you miss that mark you’re fucked. If it’s meeting the 40/60/80% (degree progress measures) you can use summer.”

  • @jayballer67 he’d start at the 4. KJ super sub

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 Nelson would start at the 4. He ain’t coming here to come off the bench. Kj is backup 5 and Braun in slot minutes when needed.

    Curious what Timberlake now thinks

Assuming zero chance at Kaluma (think he’s better than Kevin), and the Rutgers kid

    @BShark @FarmerJayhawk - thoughts?

  • @kuballin10 I think Nelson or we’re done at 11

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Transfer Rumblings:

    Agree with this strongly.

Also another walk-on is expected to be added.

We reached out to Spencer (Rutgers) but he wasn’t very interested. To be fair other teams are far more desperate and can tell him he would start.

Disagree on Kaluma v Kev and also think experience in the system matters.

I think Timberlake still starts but it’s not guaranteed for sure and we will know a lot more once practices start.

  • @FarmerJayhawk said in Transfer Rumblings:

    @kuballin10 I think Nelson or we’re done at 11

Aren’t we at 12 with Kevin?

  • @benshawks08 3 returnees, 4 freshmen, 4 transfers I think?

  • Juan, Morris, Kevin, KJ, Dickinson, Elmarko, Timberlake, Marcus Adams, Chris Johnson, Jamari McDowell, Parker Braun is 11 I think

  • honestly Morris seems like the best nba prospect on the roster other than elmarko I can see him eventually becoming the second option

  • @KirkIsMyHinrich said in Transfer Rumblings:

    Correct.

8 man rotation is pretty clear right now. Another big addition would change that.

  • Ok, question need others thoughts. - - Do we call it good, and run with what we got right now OR we all in on Nelson , and if we are what’s the % we land Nelson ? - -what’s your thoughts on this right now ? - -IF ew were to land Nelson would he start at the 4 as has been suggested and Kevin at the 3 ? - -what would that do to KJ ? - -just asking some opinions from others

  • @rcjhdraft said in Transfer Rumblings:

Agreed with him being the best prospect. Don’t see him being a second option with Kevin back though.

  • @TYOHawk I think they need Elmarko and Morris as scorers/creators/ rim attackers along with Kevin, Chris, Adams and maybe KJ from the elbow! That’s what they didn’t have last year. Timberlake and Jamari will find spots on the 3 line. Also clearly need rim cutters w/out the ball to allow floor spacing. It looks like they have good enough talent to make a run. Another 4-5 that can score, defend and rebound would be great-IF he does not demand PT but earns it! Also should be a several year player. Still a lot of questions answered.

  • I will be stunned if Chris and Jamari play more than with the walk-on minutes. Bill never plays everyone and right now those look like the end of the roster players.

  • Sounds like w might be done for the year in recruiting - -Bill runnin with what he has got

  • I’ll say this. Misdirection is a real thing.

  • @FarmerJayhawk That’d be wise - kj didn’t play much his frosh year and was gonna transfer. Bill at the banquet gave it an effort to re-recruit.

If Nelson really wants to come here you don’t say no. He was tight with Grady and that helps but I can see if he comes and kj somehow doesn’t start that will cause some issues.

To please everyone a lineup of Juan, Kevin, Nelson, kj and Hunter would be odd but wouldn’t surprise me from Bill

  • @kuballin10 exactly. It’s really hard for me to believe they’re fine with running Braun as the only reserve big. Nelson just checks so many boxes I can’t think they’re just going to stand pat. One rolled ankle and it’s Braun at the 5. I like him but he’s not a KU starter by a long shot.

  • @FarmerJayhawk isn’t presumably the reason Udeh and zuby both left that one rolled ankle and we’d be running with KJ at the 5?

  • @benshawks08 also Hunter gobbling up 30+. And Bill wanted to keep both

  • @benshawks08 I think Bill in his favoritism will try KJ at the 4. It won’t work and he will become the backup 5. It will drive us crazy because the best scoring lineup will be with shooters around Hunter and Juan with kj as 6th man energy change of pace guy

Bill’s gonna try to fit a square peg into a round hole to start the season to keep everyone happy

  • @kuballin10 it will all work out especially if we get Nelson and the rumors are true that he’s ineligible until spring semester. KJ gets his run, it goes over like a lead balloon, then Nelson comes in to save the season.

  • KJ was in the game at the end of the 2022 natty as a freshman. Pretty sure he’s going to be on the floor a LOT and in crunch time every time over literally any newbie including Dickenson if he can’t set a screen on an inbounds play.

I can almost promise you that Hunter will not be coming off the bench for KJ - with what heard on the NIL, they not shelling that out for a back up player , with what he has accomplished. I really like KJ , BUT Hunter is just so much more of a polished all around player. a player that you can almost bet gonna get you 20 & 9-10 every time out. a guy that can shoot the 3 st retch the floor, score inside - -score outside

just a more polished player. Doesn’t take anything away from KJ - -but KJ just has limitation’s KJ is not a good rebounder , KJ has no outside shot - -which he better be busting his ass developing this summer if they gonna try and have him play some four. Again KU had said thy would not be outbid in the NIL for Huntr, and we don’t know for sure where it ended up but I can bet it was plenty - -and he is not playing a reserve role -that’s just not happening.

  • @FarmerJayhawk where’s the rumors on ineligibility? Figure he takes summer classes and gets eligible

  • @kuballin10 just stuff around that he totally blew the spring since he thought he was going pro. If you don’t pass 6 hours in a semester you can’t play the next one. You can make up stuff for degree progress in summer but not to backfill from a semester where you done messed up.

  • Udeh didn’t commit to Dook, rumors say he wasn’t guaranteed PT and couldn’t qualify academically. Next visits are KSU and TCU. Which if he wants PT he’ll probably choose between those two. I laughed at the thought of him getting PT @ Dook.

  • @kjayhawks this makes me happy.

  • It was about credits not transferring because Duke is particular about that.

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

Don’t laugh to hard cause there was multiple , multiple ones that said he would fit right in as the starting 5 and they could move Flip out to the 4 , wasn’t counting on Udeh for a lot od scoring, just some rebounds and rim protection which he was QUITE capable of

  • @jayballer67 I wished he’d comeback for sure but he has to be willing to wait and work. He ain’t going to go start a blue blood right now. He could start at KSU or TCU most likely. Several guys destroyed their careers doing similar things with daddy or agents in their ears telling them they are the next LeBron or MJ. I hope it works out for him but still think he’d be better off staying here.

I would love it if he stayed, would be perfect behind Hunter talk about a sweet combo. The last place I want to see him end up at is K Straight. The last thing I would want is to face a guy that has that extra motivation to give us hell - -especially transfer to inner conference - ANYWHERE but those idiots. They all full of themselves because they had one decent year lol.

  • @jayballer67 he’ll public enemy number 1 at AFH if he goes to KSU. Can Tang make then more than one hit wonder is my question.

  • @kjayhawks said in Transfer Rumblings:

you and me both. Tang this past Season had those two key ingredients - - Johnson & Nowell, their gone, like you said will they still be a legit team ? - -Oh they have some quality players all right but he stepped into a good thing with those two - now we find out his real Coaching abilities.- -Good or do the closet fans put their little purple and white stuff back in the closet for another decade before they are relevant again ?

  • So I don’t even know if we are entertaining the idea or not, as Coach said he was happy with his roster. Just curious - May 31st is the decision day right on players to make up their minds as if they are going to stay in the draft or withdraw isn’t that right ?

So IF there were an interest, Nelson has until then to decide if he is staying in the Draft or withdraw ?

I think he would be the ONLY player left we would add now . - kinda think that chance is pretty slim

  • Well just saw Andrew Slater tweet. - -Looks like Alabama has now entered the picture for Udeh. – I think w lost a blooming future stud , he would of been the perfect stick with Hunter share time this year -THEN next year would of been all Udeh - -Think were gonna miss him

  • @jayballer67 But Hunter might be here two years

  • Personally watching Udeh run from adversity makes me really appreciate Isiah Pacheco’s attitude. Day one in training camp he said he was there to take a grown man’s job…and he did. Udeh on the other hand is look for an easy path to playing time as opposed to taking it. Funny thing is there are only 12 people on the world that have a legit chance to play for the Jayhawks, but that wasn’t enough.

Color me disappointed. Udeh is talented, he just needs to refine his craft.

  • I mean he and Zuby essentially got recruited over. These kids are trying to make the NBA. They’ve got to do what’s best for them.

  • @RockkChalkk said in Transfer Rumblings:

I wouldn’t count on it. I think even Coach realizes it’s a one year rental

  • @TYOHawk said in Transfer Rumblings:

This is where I’m at with it and I also think Self made the correct decision. We needed to add a star in the portal and it wasn’t going to be at PG so the 5 spot made sense. Didn’t really see any star level wings in there.

  • @TYOHawk

While I agree they are trying to make the NBA I wonder what their thoughts on when that’s happening because it’s hard to project for either that’s happening in the next 2-3 years. Their position isn’t something GM’s are wasting Top 20 picks on unless you have some serious intangibles & potential.

Personally I think they left the best situation they will both have going forward but that’s their decision to live with at the end of the day.
