Technically, lost a dick and got a son of a dick.

Hear me out….
Juan
Timberlake
Adams - Marcus
Mgbako
Hunter
Shooters everywhere. If Adam’s game doesn’t translate as fast bump him for Timberlake and put Morris at the 2.
No clue how KJ is gonna start at the 4 and I love me some KJ
I forgot about Marcus.- -thing is though these guys are still freshman - -big jump from High School studs to Major College, having said that I think that’s a pretty good line up - - Juan can have a field day with these guys. Man I hope we land Mackenzie tomorrow - -if he DOES announce.
You would if he does announce tomorrow , our chances you would think would be pretty good , s he is making announcement coming out of our visit and to my knowledge hasn’t been to Louisville or Indiana yet - -only St John. - we become suddenly loaded. - then we stil have Morris & KJ and another big coming off the bench… - -I really like KJ to - just pull hustle, defend, thing is though or I should say another thing w gotta get more then 4 rebounds a game out of him if he is playing the 4 spot , that and develop the middle range at least J

@FarmerJayhawk said in Hunter Dickenson is a Jayhawk:
@kuballin10 I like Nelson at the 4 better :). Juan Morris Timberlake Nelson Hunter. You still have good defense in the backcourt. The length out front is absurd. Shoot, Nelson was top 3 in the Summit in both rebounding and shot blocking. His offensive game is more like Jalen than a true post. So you can still run a lot of 4 out stuff around Hunter.
You are tempting me again Farmer!!! I’m trying to assume Nelson stays in the draft.
We lose Udeh or Zuby and pull another stud late….maybe Nelson but who knows.
For KJ not to start I have to see it to believe it.
Watch us get Nelson and Bill rolls out
Juan, Morris, Kj, Nelson,Hunter lol
-
@kuballin10 oh gawd if we start KJ at the 3 I’ll be on the OMG Bill has lost it train lol. Honestly I think they’d love to replace KJ as a starter but someone has to go displace him. Hunter clearly will at the 5. We’ll see if a newbie can at the 4.
-
@dylans you are dating your self with that reference
-
Whos the Better player mark Mitchell at Duke or Mgbako? Both stretch 4s at 6’8
-
Dang, i’m excited that we landed the top dawg in the portal, but i have honestly never seen him play! So, other than knowing his 18/9 stats, that’s about it. Anybody know his game? what’s he good/bad at?

Wanna hear the dahlmer and Waco cult jokes I can recall as well? Might have a few heavens gate knee slippers too.

On defense, think McCormack and on offense, think T-Rob.

LOL , hang in there it will be shorter cause , e actually now also have a football team that is up ad coming and competitive
-
@FarmerJayhawk Kj isn’t a 3 that’s for sure but seeing him displaced in the lineup will be difficult. I’m just stirring the pot lol. I love Kj it was so evident first half against Arkansas he was out we sucked. We need KJ just prefer spark of the bench and adjust how we defend to add a wrinkle.
Who starts between Morris, Timberlake, KJ, and Mgbako will be fun to see!

Well, as @wissox can tell you, Hunter has shown he is good at getting a leg up on an opponent.

Hunter is very good. Seen quite a bit of him the last two seasons. Great touch around the basket, but can pop from outside too.
-
@jayballer67 gotta remember KJ was boxing out the opposing big men on every team so they wouldn’t get the rebound. Which is why you saw our trio of wings rebound so well. That overwhelming big man KJ was assigned to will have to box out Hunter to keep him from getting his 10 rebounds a game. Which will completely allow KJ to rebound at a much higher rate with his elite athleticism and IQ.

Stolen from Twitter:
Only 2 #Jayhawks in #KUbball history have scored more points in their first 3 seasons than Hunter Dickinson scored in his first 3 years at Michigan.
Danny Manning 2,009
Paul Pierce 1,768
HUNTER DICKINSON 1,617
Drew Gooden 1,526
Brandon Rush 1,477
Raef LaFrentz 1,473
-
So, Hunter isn’t as tall as Big Greg Ostertag, 7’2". Has any Jayhawk player been taller then Greg? Wilt was a shrimpy 7’1".

T-Rob was 7-14 his senior year so while a high volume, if left alone he was a capable outside shooter.

His footwork is impeccable for a 7 footer.

Sorry, but KJ will never be a good rebounder. Arms are too short which is part of why his body looks so weird.
-
@stoptheflop Embiid? Maybe that big red headed kid Kleinman?
-
I think you will see several minutes of the ole high low. Which I think is good because you don’t see it as much anymore so people have worked on it less defensively. I wanted us to upgrade our athletic ability and I think we have done that big time. I also have concerns about Morris but they is zero denying his athleticism and Jaskson looks to be a high flyer. It should lob city in Lawrence next season, 70% of our 2 point shots should be dunks!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Maybe you’ll be right about that, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. He finishes lobs and dunks with his head near or above the rim. Imagine he isn’t fighting and having to box out and body the opposing teams biggest player. His matchups will be way more favorable for him guarding and being guarded on the floor. His efficiency in every area should improve. With rebounding being the most notable area to see improvement.
-
Anybody else feel like the transfer portal has become Coach Self’s amazon cart?
-
@madmax @Texas-Hawk-10 KJ will play a huge role next season and get his minutes. He is too athletic to not be on the floor. Him not going against guys that are 5/6 inches taller all the time will help. I’ve gotten word he has been getting shots up like crazy so far this off season. I know he’s listed at 6’7 but standing by him at a game, I’d bet good money he’s closer to 6’5 than 6’7. That being said he still may grow a bit more before he’s done here.
-
@kjayhawks I’m looking forward to KJ’s improved shot. By all accounts he’s been taking tons of jumpers this off-season. Having a dependable 15 footer makes him very hard for most post players to guard.

As Michael Jordan once said when pressed about actually being closer to 6’3” than 6’6” - it just makes what I did that much more impressive.
-
I don’t have time to search thru some of these long string posts, but curious if anybody touched on the rumors of Hunter’s supposed desire to get some up-front NIL money that the other schools in play for him weren’t prepared to give, and that his NIL offer from KU was massive. The theory being that he knows his chance of being an NBA player is iffy, so he wants to cash in now.
-
Certainly rumor, could be true. He knew his worth and knew what attention he would get doing this. Watching the bigs that got paid this past season to stay then having the portal become even more crazy this yr led to a perfect storm for him. In the end we had the resources in place to win. It’s free agency with no rules
-
4 million is the rumor.
-
I’m curious how many more eyes Hunter Dickinson will attract to KU basketball than Zuby Ejifor? That’s all that matters - viewership. Wins help attract viewers, but if there is no continuity, who are the Jayhawks and what do they stand for? A Rent-a-win team? Hope this year is an outlier, but I’m skeptical - this feels like the new normal.
-
@dylans it’s a better guarantee at knowing what you get with a player. Some high school top recruits clearly transfer to d1 well and others suck.
A proven 21 year old with stats at d1 level >>> 18 year old who’s played bad aau ball and isn’t guaranteed to be proven at the next level
I get Zion or certain recruits are “sure things” but ultimately you don’t know until they are on campus.

So you know what your getting OR THINK you know. - No guarantees he will preform like that next yr. - - It’s impossible to predict that- , a lot of things could happen. - -just impossible to make any kind of prediction on how thigs will go. - We THINK we know, chances are BUt still - hell Hunter could come out and suck- you don’t know 100 % for sur
-
Yes- looks like the new normal is that top programs like KU can cherry pick seasoned and more or less proven guys from other programs, by odds mostly lesser ones, who want to play for a blue blood and want to cash in on a lucrative NIL deal that we can easily afford. The rich get richer as always, But now quicker.
So, the big question I have is, is recruiting now much less critical? This really changes the whole process. We all loved the guys who played 4 years and grew with the program into very good players. I love senior nights… now most seniors are gonna be 1 or 2 year transfers who don’t have as much of a connection to the school as we used to have. Bummer. If we recruit really good players, and as freshman they understandably don’t get a lot of playing time because we always have a fresh crop of experienced transfers, they will leave. One and done in a different way
-
@jayballer67 I think you have a way better chance of knowing because it’s against college competition versus high schoolers who are my height and have unfortunately my athleticism. Any 6-8 kid with some skill will dominate
-

You remember the phrase about how some playes don’t even bother to unpack their bags ?- - that’s what it is now becoming. —the connection between the players ,connection and the school those days are pretty much over. the days of 4 yr kids coming nd developing- -pretty much gone. - Seen a post from TOS - -why would schools want to recruit kds when they can just reload with transfers is gonna becom the norm

The Burger Boys have to go somewhere. I can see a future where different schools have different recruiting strategies. one will load up on freshman McD’s studs, the others will focus on the Portal.
I can see the NCAA changing the portal rules and regs pretty quickly though. So, it would not surprise me a bit if they backed off this insanity.
-
@jayballer67 lol no definitely not! I was saying 6-8 dudes can dominate shrimps like me!
