    @AsadZ

    We’ll find out Tuesday.

They have two 1st team All Big-12 caliber players at PG and Wing. I’m stunned at the pieces around them playing at the level they have.

They have an inflated record from a weak non-conference slate, but they are going to be tough to beat. They match up well with us.

there is no questioned they are legit

  • @jayballer67

We’ll see, I think their depth is suspect as we go forward into conference play. They have 3 good starters and 2 average guys around them. Their bench is solid because they have 2 guys coming off the bench that were starters previously. Nothing spectacular but they get enough from those guys.

In this hot start in conference play they have been so reliant on scoring from Nowell & Johnson, both that at times have played at a level I don’t think is sustainable. We’ll see. They are good but I’m just not sold.

Agree - -not just yet. - going to be some interesting match ups in this game - -You think possibly they put Kevin on Johnson ? - -similar hghts aren’t they ? - Juan on Nowell.

They have 3 good starters we have 3-4 pretty god starters. - our depth is suspect, - our bench of Bobby - - Joe - - MJ to a lesser degree ( we just haven’t really gotten a good feel for him cause he is always hurt in one way or another ) & then our bigs - -kind of a hodge podge hee - -I guess you would have to say depends on the situation - so Clemence - Or Zuby - -so i think we offset there because there to I think we can gt just enough nothing special but I guess ok i guess -going to be interesting. - That place will be nuts - but we have vetrans that have been there before.

Another thing is I know sounds crazy but it just seems that this team doesn’t gt rattled- - e get behind - we don’t force/press just keep plugging along

  • @jayballer67

Yeah with K-St playing 2 big’s primarily Kevin will likely get that assignment. Johnson doesn’t scare me as much as Nowell, his play of late has been out of this world. Last year we could not contain him at all on high ball screens and from what I’ve seen of him he’s even tougher to keep in front due to his quickness and athletic ability. Lately it’s been the 3 ball as well that’s been dropping for him at a high rate. Juan and Bobby really have their hands full.

The other important aspect of this game that KU will have to find a way to try and control is rebounding. Their 2 big’s seem to get a lot of those 50/50 balls off long misses etc that extend possessions.

I mean, do we ever really put anyone on a specific player? We just switch everything anyway so most teams can get whatever matchup they want. A player really has to go off for that style to change. Only special situational type stuff I’ve seen from this year’s team is doubling the post and maybe once or twice Juan wouldn’t switch when he was trying to clamp a specific guard.

That, to me, is what is pretty scary about how good this team could eventually be. They have so many more layers to explore.

  • K-St is looking really salty right now. I bet that game is a 1 point line either way. Will not be surprised if by tip off K-St is favored by a couple points. I watched some of their game against Oklahoma St and Nowell was pulling up from 30 feet and making threes. That is pretty tough to defend against. That game will come down to how well Harris can defend Nowell and how well Kevin can defend Johnson. If you can contain those two guys then KU will win. I think it is going to be one hell of a game.

  • Can Juan stay out of foul trouble guarding him?

  • Just want to mention that Tennessee so far is having the best rated D in the Kenpom era and it isn’t even close. Might not finish that way, but wow…

  • @Kcmatt7 that is interesting, impressive but still lots of games to be played of course.

Or how well they can defend Wilson - - Dick - - McCullar - -goes both ways

  • @Woodrow I think you are right, and if it really does come down to the DJ/Newell and Kev/Johnson matchups, I like our chances. Edge Jayhawks.

That’s an all time defense. Looked like it when we played them too, lol.

  • Huggy lost his top assistant, he was fired. Larry Harrison had been with him since 2007. Ouch. Sounds like it was admin decision

Huggy needs to hang it up.

I dislike that loss, but I’m a big fan of Barnes… mostly because he’s a top-notch quality human being.

  • I’m psyched to see a quality KSU team again! They pretty much sucked under Weber and I’m glad he is gone! Tang is capable and welcome to help bring the Big 12 to a higher place. It’s good for all of us to have a legit purple kitty team!

I laughed at the notion that Texas wants Calipari. Says everything.

I always thought the answer for Cal was to somehow name Drake an assistant coach. lol

  • @drgnslayr I don’t disagree with much that you say…until now. I friggin HATE K-State. I hope they lose every game from now until eternity. In football, basketball and I even hope the Livestock Judging team starts mistaking pigs for cows.

I will donate half my yearly salary forever to bring back Bruce.

  • @nuleafjhawk

I just like the tough rivalry.

It’s not much of a rivalry smacking down KSU every single game.

Kind of like college football dominance in the SEC… it becomes a big ZERO after a while.

  • @drgnslayr There must be something wrong with me. I LOVE smacking down KSU every single game. The greater the beatdown, the more I love it. There’s nothing worse to me than a 1 point game. Or in football - a 2 point game. After 3 overtimes.

  • Looks like we lead Kentucky in another category:Screenshot 2023-01-13 at 6.46.27 PM.jpg

  • @drgnslayr @nuleafjhawk sorry Nuleaf I agree with drgn. We need a good competitive rival. It’s why I hated to see misery leave. I want to see two games on the calendar every year that I set my life around. I want them to beat us every once in a while so we have reason to make it a fierce and bitter rival. But if you want to donate a million dollars to bring Bruce back more power to ya. He’s a studio guy on the big ten network and I can’t stand hearing that voice!

  • @drgnslayr And there is a reason he is the highest paid Coach - - -WHY ? - - because he just WINS. - -WIN BABY WIN - that’s all he does. .My comment in this is not a jab at you drgnslayr - hope you don’t think I’m being an ass to you lol , just an overall comment.

You always some really good posts/thoughts so just making sure you know my comment was not a shot at you lol. - Like I said glad we have OUR COACH -he get’s more and develops our players better - Coach is awesome - -Glad Kentucky has Cal- We got Coach - -ROCK CHALK

  • Is everyone else enjoying Kentucky’s struggles this year? I’m looking forward to their game at Tennessee today, then browsing the comments on Rupp Rafters. Thank you Bill Self.

I am and I am hoping Tennessee kills them today. For all-time wins purposes and also because we lost to Tennessee earlier in the season.

  • Another ref crew that calls way to many fouls at the Ten v. Kenty game. Jeez, why can’t we get rid of these crews that think the game is about them?

  • Just like every year, Tennessee struggles to score. When they hit shots like they did against us, they look great. When they don’t, they are a quick out in March.

  • I think Alabama is the better team and has a higher ceiling.

  • Alabama is more balanced. 16th in offense and 10th in defense per KenPom. Tennessee is 1st in defense and 31st in offense. And their defense is sort of dependent on how the officials are calling the game. They play very physical defense.

  • Kentucky is playing better defense and Tennessee’s offense looks very bad.

  • Yep, Tennessee’s O has never been very good under Barnes and will be the reason they don’t make it to the second weekend once again. I’d love a rematch with them but it ain’t gonna happen.

  • Officiating in this UK Tenn game is wow

  • No Wheeler and UK is winning… correlation?

  • Tennessee did it to themselves. They missed like 5 or 6 wide open lay-ups and shot 3-20 from 3.

They were 12-27 from 3 against us

I’m shocked I tell you, totally shocked. (Implied sarcasm font)

  • NC State picked up a nice win against Miami. TCU up on KState

  • K State maybe cooling off a bit?

  • Tenn did not look good at all. So many misses

  • Tcu up 14 at half

  • TCU UP 22!!!

  • TCU honestly looking a bit like us. When they turn up the d and get out in transition they look like world beaters but have shown they can go stretches where they struggle to score. (Allowing UT to comeback last game)

  • @benshawks08 tcu plays more length than we do they are long and athletic like TN

Will see how we fair today but tcu will be right there battling for big 12 title

  • Alabama looks like a team we want to avoid until the final 4. 6-8, 6-10, 7-0 all long, lanky and athletic just hammering lsu

Bama looks like the top sec team and 1 seed

  • Dook

They have an elite roster. I think Alabama, UConn then UCLA in terms of raw roster strength.

  • 10 ranked teams fall today.

  • @BShark UConn and UCLA are pretty good, but as far as potential and ceiling are considered, Alabama is definitely a notch above them. I think they’re the only team we couldn’t beat if both teams are playing at their best.

That said, I think we have a better chance to advance farther due to knowing how to close out close games due to coaching and how to win when you’re not blowing your wad from three. Got to save those for the elite eight and final four.
