Chris Beard Arrested
-
I’m reminded of Carlton Bragg’s arrest. Many people rushed to judgment on him, then the fraternity house’s video clarified the situation. I try to wait for the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would have said.

More details about the Beard assault:
-
Now his fiancé is refuting the strangling and everything. Not really surprised by that. At this point I think he keeps his job at Texas.
-
@Woodrow nobody believes this!
-
Self defense… hmmmmm….
When asked if any punches were landed, Beard told police, “I think she was trying to hit my private parts,” according to the incident report.
-
@approxinfinity lol, the family jewels! What a pair, take out the trash!
-
@Woodrow Wait, what? She realized he’s her meal ticket and backed down. Shocker. It’s a no win for her. Not married so no alimony and I don’t know if she works or what she does, but I doubt it’s as lucrative a gig as her man. So she’s getting paid for the abuse and it’s ok (in Beard’s mind) because she keeps coming back.
Her choices are to support herself. - surprising how many can not or are unwilling to do this. Or just put up with the abuse. - even more surprising how many are willing to do just this.
Crazy when the better road has a hard beginning how many will chose the easy path.
-
There will be public pressure for the DA to drop the case now. It shouldn’t play a role in justice… but… it does.
A lot less evidence without the victim’s testimony. She better realize she is basically giving away all her future power/protection from the next round with Chris.
-
What about the pics, the evidence of bite marks and bruises around her neck?
-
Probably the best evidence now and if she wants to go defend him… she will have to explain the photos.
-
@drgnslayr she did go to the hospital.
-
Misery gets run by Wake Forest. Love it!
-
Will she be charged with filing a false police report now? (Talk about a double whammy)

There’s no alimony in Texas. I’m sure she is receiving a nice amount to say all the things necessary to let the abuser off the hook.

Beard has officially been fired.
-
@Woodrow wow! I wasn’t sure texas would do the right thing.
-
I sure didn’t think UT would do it. Had to be something we are not aware of that they had no choice but to do it. She said he was entitled to bite her because she swapped at his glasses is what I remember. ️ The controversy would follow him through the seasons. All that money spent AND a new arena and the Board of Regents said no to keeping him. Next?
-
-
WOW , when did this happen. I just figured e here taking back what she had said - - clear him and he comes back. - Rather he was innocent or not.
-
Any guess by anybody if we are gonna see Transfers ? - -Gonna have to wait till the end of season chances are but would be willing to bet you gonna see some transfers
-
Tang to Texas is going to be soooooo funny

it would be , just have to see on that - - -I don’t think that will happen but you never know.
-
P A C K W A T C H
-
I expected this, even after she tried to save him. The old " my face hit his fist" defense never works.
-
Wow Texas did the right thing. Beard will find another job next year or the year after.
-
What people fail to realize… the climate around domestic abuse has changed. What she did later to try to remove the charges has little or no impact on the follow thru by the DA unless she could bring substantial evidence proving it to be a hoax, which then puts her at risk of prosecution for bringing false charges. Too many victims in the past were threatened if they didn’t drop charges so the legal authority is now strictly with the DA’s office.
Evidently, there exists significant evidence in this case. UT did the right thing. They would look horrible if their only reason for keeping him was the case didn’t advance to trial. On top of that… they would only have his word that further abuse wouldn’t occur. Imagine the hot water UT would be in if they went along and kept him then he had further trouble?
By chance, if this was a hoax, Beard’s attorney would have brought very convincing evidence to the university first so they might keep him.
This is a case of “reading between the lines.”
Sadly… I wonder if Chris is on a suicide watch. I hope his sanity is intact!
-
Wichita State is looking for a new coach and they already have experience with a violent coach!
(dirty… cheap shot)
-
Here is what I was looking for…
“In the days after the arrest, Texas officials invited Beard and his representatives to lay out a case for why they should not fire him, according to multiple sources familiar with those conversations.”
If Beard was completely innocent (the only situation where he should keep his job), then his attorney should have “beat UT to the punch” (sorry for the pun) and asked for this first. Obviously… he did not present clear evidence to the university showing complete innocence.

you know - – -and I know to much there to be completely innocent
-
@drgnslayr fans would love it!
-
Tang 2 Texas plz
-
@drgnslayr wonder where their relationship will go from here?
-
This is exactly what I thought should happen. UT make the decision based on the findings of the police investigation, regardless of where this goes legally because of what his girlfriend is doing right now trying not those her meal ticket.
-
One interesting name I’ve seen floated out there as a potential coach for UT is John Calipari. The natives are getting restless with the direction of the program recently amd Cal seems to have issues adapting to the new world of college basketball recruiting with NIL and the transfer portal mostly overtaking AAU/Shoe influences.
Austin would be a great place for Cal. They have money, the expectations are lower than Kentucky, and UT is still a school that can attract big time recruits to go there and the fan base won’t care as much about being an NBA factory like they 15 years ago.
-
-
Probably a place he’ll have to go for a year or two to clean up his image before a P5 school will take on his risk.
-
I suggest counseling would go a long ways to help his image!

Maybe they are into kink. Spanking, etc. I’m sure there are plenty of kinky groups out there to join and take their show offline from the public so they stop hurting large groups of people (like UT basketball players).
But seriously… I believe this case should probably go to trial and this woman needs to be questioned why she pulled a 180 under oath. Very likely Chris would be found guilty of more than a choke.

I’m doubtful Beard has a future in basketball.
-
I’m imaging Rick Barnes has a secret smile on his face. But seriously… he probably doesn’t because that guy is a legit human being.
Texas was stupid to dump Barnes. I said it then, I say it now. Barnes couldn’t take the program further not because of his actions… it’s the climate in Austin.
That proves out by watching them continually self-destruct. They make decisions based superficially… like by seeing big $ contracts with the SEC.
Let’s see how this works out. Will they “rule” the SEC like they often did the B12? ha… no friggin’ way! They will become the next Nebraska… a school that should beg for the magical past years in the B12 when they were relevant.
Schools like Alabama and LSU lick their chops to beat up Texas teams. They consider them a bunch of spoiled pansies. And they are right.
-
The public has a way of forgetting things after a bit of time. A year goes by, and will anyone be worrying about where Chris Beard is?
Unless Beard is going to leave coaching and retire, I have the opinion he’ll be coaching again in the next 1-3 years. While I don’t agree with that, coaches usually get a bunch of 2nd chances. I think it also depends on the outcome of his case.
Beard made it to the top and didn’t get to stay there long. I’m sure that’s going to eat at him for a long time & rightfully so, its earned
-
Can we compare this to greggggggg?

He can go get drunk with Marsha and his wife. Maybe they can invite their old drinking buddy Chris Janz to come join the party ( if he has time).
-
@drgnslayr Austin is a lot like Lawrence, reversed. They live, breathe and bleed Longhorn football and tolerate basketball. I’m not saying this strictly because I’m a Jayhawk. I lived in Austin for a year, my dad’s been there for 40 or so. It’s the way it is.
-
A tale as old as time.
-
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I’m very upset. You know me, momma’s boy.
-
Not surprised. He’ll be coaching next year somewhere, i’ll bet. Maybe we should chip in and buy his gf a football helmet.
-
Some people want Greg Gard fired at Wisconsin and I saw someone pushing for Chris Beard or Sean Miller. I have no reason to be a Badger fan other than I lived there for 15 years of my adult life and I’d probably stop following the basketball team if they hired one of those guys.
