  • On the CBS Sports site, the header says " Tech sweeps Baylor, takes control of B12 race". Talk about fake news.

  • @Jethro

    In same article. ha

“Texas Tech’s win put Kansas in a strong position to capture its 16th Big 12 Championship in the last 18 years”

  • @BeddieKU23 The article is fine. The header is at best misleading.

Wow. If he’s that good, there’s no way he’s going to college.

  • @rockchalkwyo Could we get him a G.E.D. like…right now? They put young brilliant kids in universities all the time- shouldn’t being taller than a tree and brilliant on the court qualify? I would volunteer to move to Lawrence and be his chauffeur if need be.

  • Even if Florida wins this game they are just awful

  • Auburn is a good team that’s a matchup problem for a lot of teams but they are not a championship team imo. Watched them a lot and I just don’t see it

  • Dam ladies came back and beat Tech 71-68 - -just a matter of 2 halves - KU was being out rebounded by 13 in 1st half up 3 boards by the end of the 3rd qtr. - KU out scored Tech 24-9 in 3rd quater - -now seeded as a 9 seed in the ladies tourney – -7th straight win - - 10-4 in League -and think 20-5 overall

Scheinder should be strongly considered Coach of the year - predicted for last and look what they have done. - Good job ladies

  • @BeddieKU23 outside of Smith and Kessler everyone else looks like a JAG.

  • Dam you talk about bad luck. – Florida State trying to play with Duke and all 5 of their starting 5 is hurt. So they playing with completly different 5 and yet right now hanging in there with Duke. Trailing in the 1st half 38-36.

When is the last time you have seen a team with ALL FIVE of their players hurt and being replace with non starting 5. - NEVER seen any thing like that before

  • How is this Duke game so behind??

  • @jayballer67

Fsu has had the worst string of injuries I’ve ever seen

ya when I saw this I thought mercy - -what a terrible stretch of luck

  • Handshake line for the Michigan-Wisconsin game turned into a brawl that included Juwan Howard punching a Wisconsin assistant coach. @wissox I assume you watched this game, what led to that post game brawl?

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 The announcers say it was because Wisconsin called a late time out. Howard didn’t throw a punch, it was an open hand grab of the side of the assistant’s head. Probably just reaching across to shake his hand-or his ear, maybe.

  • It looks worse the second time I looked at it. Gotta have control when you’re the leader! Bad look!

  • @Kcmatt7 said in Non-KU Games:

@BeddieKU23 outside of Smith and Kessler everyone else looks like a JAG.

It’s weird because their two bigs are what any fan base would dream of having. But the rest of the team just doesn’t really fit tbh. Johnson is a pesky guard that reminds me of Dotson with his relentless driving ability. Green is a bit of a streaky shot hunter. Jasper and Flanigan haven’t really rounded out the starting 5 like I thought they might. No doubt it’s a good team and they tend to play like a top 5 team at home but I just don’t see championship DNA in them having watched at least their last 6 or so games.

  • This is the 2nd altercation Howard has had in the past 12 months with an opposing coach. He needs to be fired.

  • Wisconsin was ahead by 15 with 25 seconds left with all of their walk-ons in the game…and Michigan was in a full-court press. It left Wisconsin in a bad position so their coach called timeout. Howard got mad…told his team to then foul when the ball was inbounded…tried to avoid Greg Gard in the handshake line…told him “I’ll remember that sh**” and it went from there. It’s pretty simple…if Juwan wanted the game to just be over…he shouldn’t have been pressing full court against walk-ons. If he’s coaching his team to play 40 minutes, he’s gotta let Greg Gard do the same.

Then just be an adult instead of a 14-year-old boy who wants to prove how tough he is. I like that Howard said that Gard ‘put his hands on him’ (a two-handed handshake like so many that happen all the time) and that he felt the need to defend himself…all 6’10’’ 250 of him…against the Pillsbury Dough Boy. Spare me.

  • So was the first guy that talked to him the ast. coach and then the guy he slapped across the head, the head coach?

  • Howard swore at the head coach…the head coach tried to explain himself…Howard got upset and started yelling…they got separated…a crowd gathered and words were exchanged…Howard was away from the fracas and then re-inserted himself and slapped a Wisconsin assistant coach.

  • Feel like he should be suspended at the very least and most likely fired. But I hope the Wisconsin staff faces some penalties as well. They were far from innocent bystanders to the situation. Looked to me like the assistant that got the slap had hands on a Michigan player. Just a bad situation all around where there were no cool heads to prevail.

  • I think the big ten gave him 2 game suspension and min. 10,000 fine. Michigan could still do more, I think. Maybe they would since this is his second time.

  • @focojayhawk I saw it all several times, just didn’t know which one was head coach, or what words were coming out of the ast coach’s mouth. Looked like mostly Michigan’s players swinging, hard to tell.

  • Anyone think they will fire him after the season??

Pretty stupid situation to put yourself in. Bad look

  • @BeddieKU23 It’s astonishing. Haven’t seen anything like that since Woody Hayes. I knew when he went after Turgeon the guy was walking a thin line, but this is way beyond the pale. Here is a link to the Turgeon incident:

    https://nypost.com/2021/03/13/juwan-howard-allegedly-threatened-mark-turgeon-in-ejection/

  • @BeddieKU23 Wonder if they at least reach out to old faithful and see if he’s interested in coming back?

Could see him bring his son on staff to hand the program over to in a few years.

Fire Howard. Suspend Wisconsin’s coach a couple games for grabbing Howard and initiating the fracas. Video with sound makes Wisconsin look super douchey, Michigan uncouth. Both in the wrong, Michigan more so.

  • @Kcmatt7

Howard did make the Elite 8 last year and recruited at a level that very few reach in the last couple cycles. Wonder if that kind of stuff gives him just enough cred to stick around. My money is on Michigan moving on. They have 3 games left against ranked teams & somehow get 4 straight homes games now. We’ll see how much Michigan cares about winning games above everything

  • Michigan absolutely in the wrong. “Wah wah they called a timeout and hurt my precious feelings, Coach.” “Oh yeah? Well, I will make an utter ass out of myself in tribute to Coach K. The old handshake line fool fest!”

  • That video looks really bad for Howard. Not only did he start it but he was trying to avoid the handshake as well.

Not really sure I see Gard’s intent to be anything other then expecting to have that brief interaction with Howard and move on. He initiates contact but how many post game handshakes go in that manner where the coaches stop, have some kind of close contact where they usually are talking into their ear so they can hear each other and then move on. It literally happens all the time.

My main issue with the Wisconsin staff was with that assistant who flew in late and seemed to push or grabs Michigan player. He added to an already bad incident and escalated rather than deescalated at a point when it could have all ended.

  • @benshawks08

For sure Wisconsin staffer adds to the fire. There’s a whole lot of suspensions coming at minimum

  • @BeddieKU23 Yea it’s a tough decision for an AD. They’ve got the #7 class coming in next season, but with free agency and the right hire you can pretty much always avoid a down year.

I would imagine that his contract, and whether or not they thought they could get away without paying, obviously would be the largest factor. And then I also haven’t seen if UM fans are even embarrassed about the situation. The fanbase might not care

  • More loosely connected thoughts:

Gard doesn’t do handshake lines like Self. Self does a one hand shake for pretty much everyone when they go thru the line. Gard does the right hand shake with the left hand on the person’s shaking elbow or pat on the shoulder. He does it EVERY GAME. This is not new. He was simply doing what he does when Howard says an inflammatory statement and ignites the whole thing. So yes…he did touch Howard’s arm…just look at every other time he goes thru the line. If Gard gets suspended a game for stopping Howard in the line to have an adult conversation (think about that for a second)…then what does Howard get for STRIKING AN OPPOSING TEAM’S COACH? Seriously…if Gard gets a game like Jay Bilas, Seth Davis, Jay Williams and others say he should…what does Howard get? 10? 20? Fired?

Once the chaos starts and both teams are getting up in each other’s faces…is there time/capacity for a coach on either team to walk into the situation and evaluate who they should touch and who they shouldn’t? “Oh…you’re an opposing team player coming after one of my players…I’ll just trust that the other team’s coaches are going to handle this one and just touch people wearing the same color shirt as me.” “You’re wearing a blue shirt so I can’t touch you”. Please. Both sets of coaches (hopefully) are trying to clear players away from each other. Who knows what came out of who’s mouth (other than what clearly came out of Howard’s directed at Gard) during the scrum, but Michigan people put their hands on Wisconsin people too. There are reports of a different Wisconsin assistant (Sharif Chambliss…not the one who got punched) ending up on the ground in the middle of it. Hopefully no Wisconsin players or staff touched any Michigan people when trying to take care of him otherwise they might get suspended too.

Gard does have a history of violent touch against Howard where he might feel threatened so that needs to be taken into consideration: https://twitter.com/zachheilprin/status/1495598900002107393?s=12

  • @Kcmatt7

Also he’s not just another coach at Michigan, he’s a beloved Alum.

I believe the media is going to make this a bigger deal then it is. It’s an issue that has to be dealt with swiftly by the conference and move on.

  • @BeddieKU23 said in Non-KU Games:

I believe the media is going to make this a bigger deal then it is.

So what would be a big deal? About as big as sideline behavior gets, I’d say.

  • @mayjay

I think its an unusual situation having coaches involved. Not something you see often. Guaranteed to be made bigger then other situations.

I’ve seen worse in the last few weeks. That play by Clemson’s Collins taking out a Duke player in mid-air is as dirty as it gets.

Two coaches unable to end a game shaking hands is comical. Even worse is why it got there.

  • Of course I’m a bit biased but calls for Gard to get suspended are unwarranted. I was on a little road trip and listened to the game and have yet to see the fight except on tiny screens. Krabbenhoft was the asst who got slapped. He’s an all time beloved Badger glue guy type that we all would have revered had he played for KU. One Badger reserve punched someone who knocked down the other assistant coach. One MVP of the fight is the worst college player I’ve ever seen (seriously his garbage time minutes are horrendous). Higginbottom is his name and he made sure Johnny Davis got nowhere close to the scrum.

  • Howard will get a long vacation, not fired. If he was an alum of Central Michigan, we’d be having a different conversation.

  • @BeddieKU23 I disagree. I think this has exposed Howard’s petulance and anger issues that he has carried into games for a long time. Everybody looked the other way until the lid blew off. Howard has several altercations with opposing coaches- had to be restrained from going after Turgeon, etc. It was so bad that Turgeon wrote a letter to the B10 about it before their last blow up. And this isn’t just from Gard and Turgeon. Lots of whispers and coaches remaining anonymous saying the guy is a hothead and a jerk. I mean…pressing the bench warmers? I think there’s a real issue here that needs to be addressed or we’ll end up with a college “Malice in the Palace”. He probably developed that mindset as a player, and it worked for him. Being Coach is a whole new ball of wax, and he simply isn’t emotionally equipped to be a coach, imo. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t improve, but he has no business leading a major college program when he’s doing things like that.

  • Officially a 5 game suspension which is the rest of Michigan’s regular season.

  • I’ve always considered Howard to be a pretty likable guy and a decent coach. Maybe he is, but I doubt anyone’s going to be shaking his hand for a while. Such a weird escalation over basically nothing in the grand scheme of things.
