Agbaji tied his season high with 29.
It’s his 11th game over 20 pts. He makes this team as good as they are. He probably earned some real POY points Today
OCh has become that Alpha I spoke of. A guy that is more then willing to step up this yr and wanting to take that shot at crucial time. - He is I think the leader I’ve been looking for . In past yrs he would of not been anywhere to be found he had a tendency to disappear - - not so this yr. - -I think this truly was a statement game for the guys

I have a confession to make. I pretty much gave up on this game. I had to watch the replay late at night, was tired and cranky and started fast forwarding when we were down a ton of points. I ended up at the moment late in the game when they were wondering why Och wasn’t shooting 3 FTs. Somehow it worked out. No clue how they came back, but happy they did.
A quick look at the box score tells me Och and Wilson were the offensive studs. Dave too.
Starting to worry about Braun’s lack of scoring ability in league play. I’d have to go back and look at his game numbers, but seems like he’s come back to earth? I did see he made some nice plays though.
Always good to win on the road. Hard not to be critical, but always nice to beat the purple pussycats.

@Crimsonorblue22 happy birthday!

Braun was who kept the game “close” most of the game. He was the answer to every kstate run. Whether it was a three when the crowd was roaring or a drive and free throws to end a drought. He didn’t score a lot but every time he did was important.

Bill was drawing up plays for Och late instead of Dave.

Shouldn’t be any other way tbh. Och with the ball in his hand has either made the play that set up the winner or made the game winner in 3 of our last 4 games. He is shining under pressure. It’s great to see
-
This team is learning how to win. They looked tough in the 2nd half. Och was on a level I had never seen before. He took over the game- he wasn’t playing. I’ve been waiting so long to see that determination and moxie from him. The whole team was literally flying all over the court. They wanted to get this win for Coach Self, and found a way.

Gotta put your best player in a position to make plays for sure.
The 3 and the short range shot for Och against KSU late was the same play with a different decision by Och.
End of the OU game was a whole lotta Och too.

Juan’s attitude is infectious. That’s why he is a leader and Bill loves him. You bet your ass Och/JWill etc could see the way he was getting up on Pack the 2nd half.

I think this team is so poised the whole game. No overt displays on either end. After every play they you can watch their faces and the look is "I need to get back or I need to get into the correct position. Even Remy when he misses an assignment seems to acknowledge that and moves where he should be. He’s gonna explode one of these games. His defense not because of lack of effort. He passes up in rhythm shots and clanks up outside of the flow. He was 1/6 Fg with 3 assists.
Jalen is a one stoic tough stud who will stick his nose into any place that needs it. Good ffinisher at the rim too.Dave is only mysterious to himself. Never complains just gives it his all.

That game took KUs D rating on Kenpom from 33rd to 46th
Definitely still work to be done putting two half’s together. This team can guard when they want to. At least the starting 5 can
-
I think we are just seeing normal up and downs from players like Braun. He was killer in the non conference where he feasted on guys who couldn’t stop him from getting to the basket. He is still impacting the game on both ends as we saw by the OU game winner or the fact he is 3rd in the conference in blocks as a wing. He boards, he has toughness and had 5 assists yesterday. He is missing some shots that went in earlier as his fg % has dipped in conf play but I do think we are going to see him continue to be one of our 4 most important players the rest of the season.
I think the emergence of Wilson is also taking pressure off Braun since he has been in the starting lineup. Remy really wasn’t scoring when he started so Braun had to shoulder more scoring and there was that 7 or so game stretch he was just on fire. CB is a good 2nd or 3rd option on offense with the ability to take over games if needed or exploit favorable matchups. He is 100% a better player then he was last yr and confidence is finally there for him to take advantage

Deserved after that first half like holy crap.

@BeddieKU23 I generally agree about Braun, but his poor shooting against better teams is a concern going forward. Biggest difference this year is he isn’t a black hole when his shot isn’t falling. He’s still finding other ways to positively impact games which he didn’t do last season and has been huge for this team.
I also still believe this team has to find a way to get Remy going on offense if they’re going to have any chance of making a run in the NCAA Tournament.
-
Yeah his shooting has dipped because he is having to score against better players, athletes. I do think he is missing shots that he can make or has made for that matter. At least yesterday he found a way to get to the FT line which has been a major concern for this team lately, not just getting there but making them as well. Hopefully he continues to find a consistent offensive game as we get further down the road.
As disappointing as Remy has been lately I agree that getting him playing at a high level is the last piece this team needs. I really don’t know if he is going to buckle down and get there though. We have kind of expected him to be this highly efficient scorer which he has shown at times but it does look like he thrives on volume and freedom. As I’ve heard in the past Remy kind of thrives on making the bad shot which Self will always hate. His defense is well below par and Remy is just small and average athletically where he doesn’t seem to get the easy bucket. I find it surprising that it’s really all in his head because we have seen Remy in the past play against KU and be a real pain in the A to stop. The fact it’s late January and he’s kind of mentally playing like a freshman concerns me
-
@Jethro thanks for sharing that OU game clip, it was educational for me.
-
Anyone heard any explanation on the blown free throw call at the end of the game? Seems like such a call should have some kind of response from officials at some point. Imagine KU ends up losing by 1… I would just love to hear an explanation or an admission of just a flat blown call.
-
There won’t be one because KU won. I had a hard time sleeping last night because imo this is the worst call an officiating crew has made in years. I know there have been other egregious examples but its just blows my mind the outcome of that play. Hopefully KU sent this to the Big-12 for review. Hopefully anyone did
-
Newell asked the Big-12 and while I don’t have access to the star, they have basically bent down at the knees for their officials.
This is why nobody has faith in officials. Just making up rules as they go
-
I bet they said it was a non-shooting foul. Which is stupid af but that’s the only explanation
-
Just read an article and they got ahold of Big 12 Coordinator Sunday Morning - - - Curtis Shaw.
This they said is how he explained the call. - - Saying the shooter Och had returned to the floor , so the act of shooting had ended. - - Therefore it becomes a 1 and 1 but seeing as KU was in the Double Bonus they were awarded the two shots. - - Sounds pretty bogus but what the hell
-
Hard to return to the floor when your legs are taken out.
Video don’t lie but people do
-
His feet do look like they could be barely touching right when he was hit, but I think his landing certainly wasn’t complete. Bad call because they saw it wrong, but at least that explanation makes sense even if they got the timing wrong.

Bump…had to get thread to 667 posts.
