Given the pre-Christmas game KU record in these games (and the Covid threat), not a bad deal. Players still get a free trip home, too.
-
Not surprised.
-
I was afraid this is what is coming. - -I just hope we didn’t have a lot of innre action with their players - - Coach’s- -Social distancing, get the hell out of there

Seems like the first of several… disappointing though
-
It seems like we’re way overdoing surveillance testing of vaccinated players. The NFL players want to move away from it, and I think they have a good point. Otherwise we let this become a long term state of affairs which isn’t fair to anyone.
-
If we have a tournament this year it might be a miracle

I’m afraid it’s coming. Cause even though this isn’t suppose to be as dangerous or more dangerous - -it is a lot more Contagious I can see a repeat
-
@BeddieKU23 no, sucks! Covid sucks!
-
This is where McCarthy Hall is a huge advantage for KU because they can pretty much self-isolate there with minimal exposure to those outside the program. We didn’t deal with Covid issues last season until the program had to leave McCarthy and set up camp in KC for the Big 12 tournament.
-
I also found out that I have Covid again today. Felt like a cold, cold meds weren’t really helping so I went and got a rapid test that came back positive and have a lab test on Thursday to confirm.
Yay to spending Christmas alone! At least I’ll be out of isolation for New Year’s Eve.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 bummer! Think u got it at school?

That’d be my guess. I started having cold-like symptoms on Sunday night and spiked a fever yesterday. Fortunately the fever is gone, but cold medicine wasn’t helping much so I looked up Omicron symptoms and they pretty much mirror cold symptoms so I went and got a rapid test today.

Haven’t lost it either time. Probably would make it easier to eat healthy this time of year if I had though, lol!
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 does your school follow any covid protocols? Testing? Masks? Quarantine?
-
“It is about choice!,” they all cry. Bullshit. And this isn’t even close to being a 2nd Amendment issue - I support the Second Amendment, and deer hunt occasionally - which I know to be one of the underlying issues for many just flat out refusing to get the vaccine… They think the government wants to control.
It takes a whack job to kill for no reason with a firearm, but by not getting the vaccine even those that most think to be totally sane could inadvertently be killing someone - a big difference!
Time to make the vaccines mandatory.

We had a mask mandate that wasn’t strictly enforced because middle school kids don’t always like to follow rules. When we go back in January though, the mask mandate will be lifted. I do still plan on wearing a mask and was planning on it even before getting it again.

That’s good of you @Texas-Hawk-10, but it’s not about masks, at this point. It is about those who refuse to be vaccined.
-
@Marco it’s both. If we all wore a mask for 2 weeks this would be over. We’re just a stupid stubborn selfish species.
-
By wearing a mask I mean an N95 and not congregating Indoors. All of the obvious things that we refuse to do in a coordinated manner for 2 f***ing weeks.

Come on, man - no it wouldn’t be. People need to be vaccined. Masks? Come on!
-
Jesus Christ. I’m not going to talk about it. I was angry about this 2 years ago and it still makes me angry now.

As was I.

I’ll take it a step further… Why are we sending athletes to the Beijing Winter Olympics?
-
I’m not saying don’t get vaccinated. I’m saying masks also matter. The stubbornness about masks is the same root problem as the stubbornness about vaccines
And the vaccines aren’t preventing breakthrough omicron infections. Masks still matter.

I work in a low income district where there’s not easy access to vaccines and only approved for those 12 and under fairly recently. There’s also a lot of mistrust of doctors because of all the shit that’s been done to black people over the decades and a lot of illegal immigrants that are afraid of deportation.

Guys/Gals, This is insane talk. The Omnicron variant, is highly contagious, but is far less deadly than the original strain. We’re going to get this strain, most likely, and it’s due primarily to it being the winter season, so people are indoors much more than spring/summer. The vaccinated are still catching this strain, but are much less affected by the symptoms. We should all be welcoming getting this strain, so we can get it over with, have immunity for the rest of the season, and move on. The tragedy, is the people calling the shots, are treating this like the original strain, and locking people down, for what amounts to not much more than a severe cold. If we’re supposed to trust the science, why are we not doing that as it pertains to our decision making. Look at the data, it’s all there.

@Marco The one student I have that tested positive is the one that we all have been telling her all year to pull up her mask.
-
@P-H-C Sorry, but if you’re a scientist or an MD or a Virologist, stop acting like and expert and telling us we’re all talking insane.
-
@wissox I’m highly skeptical of this, with all due respect. If masks were truly that effective, how to explain how Omnicron is spreading the most rapidly in the NE (NY primarily), where they have some of the strictest mask laws in the country… And by the way, I’m fully vaccinated, with my booster scheduled. Wife, same. 18 yr. old vaccinated. 17 yr. old, scheduled. I will not be vaccinating my young children **on the advice of my pediatrician **. I’m pro vaccination. I also think masks work, to a degree. But I don’t believe it’s my right to tell you what to do with your body. “My body, my choice “, right? Isn’t that the liberals battle cry? And I’m also a realist. I’m not going to freak out every time there is a Covid spike. Because Covid is here to stay. We can’t eliminate it (at least now), and there is no way humanly possible to prevent all people from getting it. No matter how much you beat your chest, and foam at the mouth… We have to learn how to manage it because it’s not going away anytime soon.

@P-H-C NYC is the most densely populated place in the country.
Why is your pediatrician suggesting that you don’t vaccinate your children? Unless they have an underlying condition, its surprising that your pediatrician would advise against vaccination unless they’re repeating back your own perspective to you, i.e. “Well, if you’re concerned about the vaccine, then you might wait…” kind of thing?
Spreading contagion is not just your body, it is everyone else’s. Not wearing masks and not getting vaccinated compromises everyone else’s health.
Also, my kids public school had a pep rally where all the kids were screaming at the top of their lungs in the gym the day he started feeling symptomatic. Again, people are stupid. So yeah, maybe it’s here to stay.
I hope it does prove to be milder, but the article you linked to did not commit to a stance either way as to whether it will be milder in the US or not.

Actually I had heard from interviews also that it was milder less deadly as far as that part of it goes

@jayballer67 AFAICT the jury is still out. Hope it’s milder.
-
So many people point to the spread of omicron as proof masks and vaxxes don’t work.
Not exactly a good test with millions of people refusing to wear masks, and millions more who won’t get vaxxed.

Some qualified good news https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/12/22/world/omicron-covid-vaccine-tests/omicron-infections-do-not-seem-as-severe-leading-less-often-to-hospitalization-uk-researchers-report

Omicron has killed exactly the same number of people as Alec Baldwin.
Also, I have searched and searched for any legitimate study that shows real evidence that masks and masks alone limit the spread of coronaviruses and can’t find a single one.
-
@RockkChalkk said in Colorado game Canceled game thread:

I cannot recall anyone who has even made that claim, only that they can help – in combination with good ventilation, less crowding, vaccines, good general health habits, etc etc etc.
None of these will do it alone.
Think of it like washing your hands during a flu or norovirus outbreak. Washing your hands alone will not stop you from catching something, but it can reduce the risk. Isn’t that a worthy goal?
-
@RockkChalkk gross! I think there was a study done at KU for covid cases in kansas. Not to hard to find studies.
-
@approxinfinity This is the last I’ll comment on the matter, because it’s obvious we’re on opposite sides, and neither anything you or I say, is going to move either of us off our position… Our pediatrician, who shared that she herself and her husband are vaccinated and also won’t be vaxxing they’re kids, said to us that there is no long term data on how the vaccine will react with our bodies. And since young children will recover at a 99.9% clip, if they do catch Covid, why would we subject our young children to something that we don’t know or not, if there are long term effects. My 5 year old is still growing and developing, who’s to say that the vaccine might not stunt that growth and/or development? Only time will tell, but I’m not using my 2 young kids as guinea pigs, just cause Fauci and Biden say it’s my moral obligation. Fauci has changed his position so many times, he could field a whole baseball team. Who knows where or what he’ll prance out as truth in a few weeks. No thank you.
-
@P-H-C thanks for the insight on the conversation with pediatrician. I appreciate your stance on this and omicron possibly may prove that it is a logical approach to young kid vax very shortly.
I do think there is room for debate about not having long term data for non vaxed children who get new variants as well. And of course I do think we have a moral obligation not to spread the disease , but omicron is quickly changing the landscape.
