uh oh. Is this the same kid I seen al the negative posts about yesterday where the kid is a turnover looking for a place to happen ? - -Don’t tell me we going to use our last Scholi on a kid like this IF this is who your talking about

  • @BShark we need a downvote button @approxinfinity

The advanced stats are really alarming, I really don’t even see how he would end up playing.

  • To chime in on a positive note, it looks like a lot of his issues point to bad coaching. It makes sense, because Tom Crean is one of the worst coaches in CBB. Better decision making, better knowledge of the playbook, and a little more hesitation to just let the threes fly and he could be a very solid player.

  • Can’t be too bad–All SEC voted by coaches. His comments about wanting to go someplace where he can compete for a title are encouraging. I wonder how many turnovers were caused by teammates being unable to catch his passes. Many commentators think he can do a lot better with players who aren’t as crappy as Crean’s team is.

5’8" out of HS, then 5’10" at UGA, and I see 5’11" in some writeups about entering the portal. Kid is still growing–Expect him to be 6’ if he goes to KU.

  • I guess I’ll just pray he gets a better ‘offer’

  • @BeddieKU23 I’m officially on your side of panic mode.

Nothing like starting 2 guys under 6’ and then bringing one off the bench. Pairs well with our D2 6’7 power forward and JUCO 6’7 Center.

Just masterful roster construction going on here. Definitely got longer and more athletic this offseason.

Yeah I’m really not even sure the starting line-up changes outside of Marcus. The whole 3 wing (Braun, Och*, Wilson) thing will get beat like a drum against teams with good guards so I am hoping we do actually go with 2 guards a wing, Jalen, Dave.

    *up in the air still

  • @BShark I think you’re better off just letting young guys get time. I know Bill can’t let himself do that, but just let Pettiford and Cuffe get a ton of minutes so 2022 we can do thangs.

  • @Kcmatt7

I’m all for the Yesufu/Pettiford backcourt because after Dave leaves this team can transition to a perimeter attack, that’s if Bill doesn’t find his next big to give 30% usage to

  • @Kcmatt7 Yeah Bill won’t do that and we know it. Cuffe needs a lot of time in the oven, I feel like if Bryce doesn’t transfer they don’t ask him to reclass. This is basically the opposite situation of Frank and Graham, one year early instead of a year late. Makes a big difference but especially on a kid like this who needs to develop. Hoping he is all-in on the program and redshirts.

Like @BeddieKU23 I am hoping Bobby gets some run. Does seem like they are hoping he can contribute this season. That’s why taking Wheeler would be so baffling to me, I’m not sure he would even end up playing and would probably make the team worse.

  • In reading the recent weekly VIP news dump thread from Chasen (great content, the man is a machine) it does sound like Wheeler is potentially a lot more interested in KU than vice versa. I just fear it’s who we end up with because they know they are out on TyTy, and Hickman will end up at Gonzaga.

  • Bill should not have said no to Mckissick seeing how the recruits for RJ 2.0 went.

As much as I think Ochai should come back, it’s a bit depressing to think that our starting line-up would be the same as last year’s team, albeit minus it’s best all around player. We suffered an epic beat down in the tournament against a good, but not great, team (they were whipped the next game) that was simply faster, longer and more athletic. And, we had already seen a preview of that against Texas and Tennessee. HCBS acknowledged as much, and said we needed to upgrade our athleticism. As yet, however, we simply don’t have the speed or athleticism to guard the perimeter and defend against good guards or wings. Or, to penetrate and finish against size and speed (maybe Yesufu or Pettiford?). Who can guard a mobile big who can hit 3s (welcome to the B12 Tanner Groves)?

Our main issue last year was roster construction - the pieces didn’t fit together well. I admit I’m at a loss as to how we’re going about trying to fix that…

  • Could Bryce come back?

  • @BShark

I get the need for another guard. Heck we need two if Ochai doesn’t return. I don’t think I’ve ever been this dumbfounded though in regards to roster moves

    No

Sure he could remove himself from the portal. It’s happened this spring but it certainly seemed like one side had moved on

  • Btw Kentucky already has TyTy’s NLI and all the various paperwork in hand. In case anyone was wondering just how done that one is.

  • @Kcmatt7

The barn is on fire as far as I’m concerned.

Going from all wings to all short guards was an interesting decision. Though if Ochai goes I would expect his replacement to be taller. That leaves basically having 2 wing types on the roster, if you count Jalen as a post player (I do).

One extreme to the next. Roster building 101 has hit rock bottom the past few cycles

  • @BeddieKU23 Last good HS class was 18. 21 has promise at least… Hopefully a continued uptick.

I don’t think the construction is terrible but one more wing instead of a short guy could be nice. If you end up with Harris, Wheeler and Yesufu in the rotation, that’s tiiiiiny.

  • I’m definitely not panicking. Still one big transfer window left when guys withdraw from the draft.

  • All of these small guards are going to make defense really tough. I can’t figure out how this roster is going to fit together.

We don’t have a dominant post player. We don’t have a dynamic wing scorer. Other than Braun, there’s a chance we won’t have a guard or wing over 6-3. This team is built like its 1986. We are probably two players away from finishing this roster construction. And they need to be big time players.
