NCAA Tournament - Automatic Bids
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think that it would be a shame if Drake didn’t make the tournament.
-
47th in NET, doesn’t help their case either. This is one of those that generally gets left out for a mediocre P5 team. Maybe their strong 6-2 record against Q1/Q2 will factor
-
@BeddieKU23 Most of the projections I’m seeing now have Drake in a First Four game which doesn’t bode too well for their chances considering a lot of the other bubble teams around them still have their conference tournament to play and improve their odds. Drake could very well be on the outside looking in after the final game next Sunday.
-
Glad Gregg Marshall is out, and his prior school Winthrop is in the tourney.
I actually gave a talk to an class there 12 years ago to a bunch of future teachers about education law. Nice people!
-
I see Joey Buckets has moved us up to a 3 seed in his latest Bracketology. - - doesn’t show it that way off the ESPN site but was watching a tournament game Western Kentucky ? - -anyways doesn’t matter but it scrolled across bottom of screen and showed us as a 3 seed
-
App St. and UNCG have each clinched a tournament bid by winning their respective conference tournaments tonight.
5 more bids are on the line tomorrow with the Colonial, Horizon, NEC, Summit, and West Coast title games.
-
Always get a kick out of the longshots making it in. App State - #210 ranking in KenPom
On the other end, was surprised to see Loyola-Chicago in the Top 10.
-
4 of the 5 title games for tomorrow are set. Only that isn’t is the WCC title game with BYU and Pepperdine getting ready to tip, but it probably doesn’t matter since the winner gets Gonzaga.
Colonial: Elon (8) vs. Drexel (6)
Horizon: Oakland (5) vs. Cleveland St. (2)
NEC: Mount St. Mary’s (4) vs. Bryant (2)
Summit: Oral Roberts (4) vs. North Dakota St. (3)
WCC: BYU/Pepperdine vs. Gonzaga (1)
-
Guessing that App State will get a 16 seed.
Wonder if the selection committee will have a sense of humor and put them up against Michigan ?
-
And in the WCC (really late) nightcap, BYU pulls it out in OT after trailing Pepperdine most of the game.
-
Top 5 defense fueling them (Loyola)
-
@nwhawkfan being lazy not googling. Who is the coach at Loyola? The same one who made that run a few years ago, whenever that was?
-
Porter Moser 2011 - present

2018 final four

This post is deleted!
-
@COHawk Porter Moser. Sounds like the name of a country singer.
-
And your latest 16 seed…Mount St. Mary’s (KenPom #228), after winning the NEC.
Cleveland State also in; they take the Horizon League crown.
-
Hartford Hawks win the America East for the 1st of 15 bids today. Likely to be a 16 seed playing on Thursday.
-
Big day for this thread
-
There’s been surprisingly few bid stealers so far this conference tournament season.
Utah St. plays San Diego St. for the Mountain West title with USU right there on the cut line.
Memphis plays Houston with Memphis needing a win to out themselves into the field.
If either of those teams lose, they’ll likely be hoping that Kansas and Virginia pop more positive tests and can’t play in the NCAA Tournament.
In the Big East, Georgetown has a chance to steal a bid if they knock off Creighton tonight. Also, Oregon St. has a chance to steal a bid as well if they beat Colorado in the PAC12 Title game tonight.
-
Norfolk St. has won the MEAC for the first since 2012 when they pulled off a 15-2 upset over Missouri in the NCAA Tournament.
-
I also forgot that Cincinnati could be a bid stealers as well if they won the AAC. They’re playing Wichita St. right now.
-
Ohio State over Michigan by 1.
-
Cincinnati pulls off the upset of Wichita St. to advance to their 4th straight AAC title game. Wichita St. might be in some trouble too as they were a projected 12 seed as an AQ going into today.
-
Rick Pitino is back in the NCAA Tournament leading Iona to the MAAC title.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 guy’s a douche, but knows how to win.
-
Georgetown is absolutely murdering Creighton right now up 28 with about 14 minutes left.
Also looks like Texas Southern will get the SWAC bid as they’re up almost 20 on Prairie View with less than 4 minutes left.
Houston and Memphis are tied with about 5 minutes left.
-
LSU upset Arkansas in SEC semifinals and will play Alabama who came back from 15 down in the 2nd half against Tennessee.
-
San Diego St. over Utah St. for the MWC title so USU will be sweating it out tomorrow.
-
Houston is going to survive another tight game with Memphis and will have Memphis sweating it tomorrow.
-
Ohio up 20 on Buffalo at halftime in the MAC title game.
-
Georgetown is going to steal a bid and shrink the bubble by 1 as they’re up 25 with about 3 minutes left.
-
Has McDermott lost his team from his comment?
-
So Patrick Ewing’s Georgetown steals a bid, exactly 49 years to the day after the Hoyas named John Thompson as HC.
Wonder who gets bumped off the bubble ?
Speaking of anniversaries, the guy calling the Big East final on Fox, Gus Johnson, made his famous “Cold…Blooded” call ten years ago yesterday when Washington’s Isiah Thomas hit a buzzer-beater to top Arizona for the Pac 12 title.
-
@nwhawkfan The bid stealing may not be done tonight. Oregon State has a chance to steal another bid tonight as well.
-
Ohio over Buffalo for the MAC title
-
Eastern Washington over Montana St. for the Big Sky title.
-
Georgia Tech takes down FSU to win the ACC Tournament and North Texas over Western Kentucky for the CUSA title.
-
Abilene Christian is going to beat Nicholls St. for the Southland title up 26 with 4 minutes left.
Grand Canyon appears on their way to the WAC title with a 17 point lead over NMSU with 12 minutes left.
-
Oregon St. up 5 at halftime over Colorado with a chance to steal a 2nd bid today after Georgetown stole one earlier today.
-
Oregon State held on last night to beat Colorado for the PAC12 title to steal a bid and shrink the bubble and UC Santa Barbara won the Big West title over UC Irvine last night.
-
Rick Patino is back in the tourney with Iona (mid-major).
-
There 5 games today.
Patriot League is up first on CBSSN at 11CST with Loyola-MD vs. Colgate.
The A10 on CBS and SEC on ESPN are up next at noon with VCU vs. St. Bonaventure in the A10 title game and LSU vs. Alabama in the SEC title game.
The AAC title game between Cincinnati and Houston is at 2:15 on ESPN with Cincinnati having a chance to steal a third bid to go with Georgetown and Oregon St. yesterday.
The final game is the Big 10 title game at 2:30 on CBS between Ohio St. and Illinois.
-
The two most intriguing games today are the AAC and A10 games. The AAC has a potential bid stealers in Cincinnati playing. Houston won the first meeting by 38 points and are favored by 13.5 points today so can Cincy put on a better show and be the third bid stealer this weekend?
The A10 is intriguing because each team is currently a projected 10 seed so could the loser drop down into Last Four In territory and a play in game?

Oregon State is a very quiet Big 5 conference champion. Might be a sleeper. They have kids of former professional players and sometimes, that can make a difference.
-
Colgate wins the Patriot League over Loyola-MD.
-
Alabama holds off LSU to win SEC title by a point and St. Bonaventure beats VCU by 9 for the A10 title.
-
Houston repeats what they did the first game against Cincy by winning by 37 for the AAC title.
-
Ohio St. and Illinois going to OT on the B10 title game.
-
Quentin - -Huge Tourney – 21 points yesterday - - 21 points today and 3 steals. - -glad things turned out ok for him - - just didn’t fit here
