I had friends that got bottles and trash thrown at them, during the game, then shoved by crowds on the way out. No security officers did anything. These weren’t kids. They won’t go back.

KSU has been reprimanded multiple times for not having a proper security plan in place for end game scenarios. I wouldn’t expect guns or weapons to be brought in, but the safety concerns inside the arena are valid given the history of security issues inside Bramlage.

That could end at the same time as the B12’s suspension but Self hasn’t indicated that to this point. Meaning Self could sit him out longer. Also Silvio could sit behind the KU bench at home games but doesn’t because he doesn’t want to be a distraction.

I believe the phrasing Self used at the time was that Silvio was suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the B12 investigation which determined a 12 game suspension. Silvio will be back in uniform once his suspension is completed.

@FarmerJayhawk I’ve yet to read or hear anything about about Self saying he would be back after Saturday. Yes KU accepted the punishment, but that’s all I’ve heard on the matter.

I’ve been to numerous KU games at Bramledge and have never had any issues other than some annoying fans talking shit the time KSU won.

I’m anxious to see if it is really true that there will be a “chair ban” in Bramledge (meaning no chair graphics or anything promoting the chair). I have my doubts that KSU security and administration can actually apply a decent security strategy. They’ve failed before and they will probably continue to fail.
This should have been authorized through conference officials.
What our guys need to know is they must keep their heads on and up straight and not let a school with a losing program bring them down to their level, risking all potential for a national title. That will be their main goal on Saturday… to bring us down.

@drgnslayr I’ll be disappointed if there really is a chair ban. That’s perfect rivalry ribbing. Way better than the normal f’ KU chant or calling it gay U. We earned the “chair retribution” (as long as it’s verbal) and better thicken up that skin!

Guys, I’m not looking forward to this weekend really. We have everything possible going against us Saturday # 1 were Suppose to be a rival - - but in order for it to be a real rival , one team has to beat the other more then once in a blue moon- - # 2 They have had a crappy season - - # 3 We had our little Royal Rumble at the Phog when we played earlier this Season- - # 4 - -Were Ranked # 1 in the Nation - - # 5 Their idiot fans and that hole is gonna be jacked beyond reason , we think LAST year was loud and rowdy? - - probably twice that this year. - - # 6 - -this whole scenario is like a smoking powder keg , and what they perceive as anything rough from KU - -just gonna add up. EVERYTHING that could go wrong against us for this game is right there.
The only thing is , The talent difference is SO one sided - - Huge Gap between the two. We just literally need to gout in a business type approach and take control from the get go. – kick them right square in the , you know where and just take it. I hear you. But this situation quickly got out of hand in AFH and now goes to the other side, where they have a lifetime of tortured beatings (on the court) needing to be vented.
I feel certain that there has been constant communication between the schools and the league, and a plan was put into place to squelch any opportunities for a repeat of what happened in AFH.
What I am curious of… if something happens again, can our league smack us with suspensions reaching into March Madness? I wouldn’t think that is within their legal reach, but not sure.

@drgnslayr It was the players that got out of hand not the fans. I just don’t see it being a problem as long as KU thumps KSU and keeps the fans in the stands. Maybe I’m naive, but I’ve been to Manhattan it’s not at all scary. Just a big little town full of middle class midwesterners.
I genuinely hope for an extremely hostile crowd. I want to see what our guys are made of. It should be like the home crowd cheering you on to hear jeers on the road.

I just want to know they will be safe and KSU has had security failures in the past.

Like a story I told about a personal experience I had in 2008/2009. Long story short the team jumped me and 2 others and the cops did nothing. They said that we were lucky that WE didn’t get charges pressed on us.

I miss the good ole days of the streak. No not the nationally adored conference win streak. I mean the no losses in Brambledge coliseum streak. The no losses in Manhattan from 83-07 streak was fun to rub in the mild cats faces when they got too rowdy back in the day.

@dylans we should start a new one today. I haven’t updated my numbers but a couple of years ago we had won 91% of the games VS KSU since 1990 in basketball. They have won a couple since then so it probably like 87% or something but I’ve always called it the most one sided rivalry in all of sports.

I appreciate the upbeat thoughts there. I could see that being a factor in some improved play if that’s what it really takes. I’m just surprised the year away from basketball and all that he went through to get eligible wasn’t the kick-starter. What more motivation do you need then that set of circumstances.
Self really did try and give him the opportunity and it wasn’t looking good. I had extremely high hopes for Silvio coming into the season and it hasn’t worked out. Some players have a hard time finding a role here and that’s what he looked like he was struggling to find. It’s disappointing given how much he helped salvage the season 2 years ago.

My only explanation is he took the year off. That would explain going backwards and losing timing and speed of the game.
At his age and development level, he should have done nothing but climb in his year off. We would have settled for the Silvio we got the first season after January.

Silvio barely played his freshman year. He only played 175 minutes his freshman year. He did not play enough that year for his flaws to be exposed. Silvio only had something like two good games that year. His issues this year were a lack of experience, plain and simple.

You are right. But I still expect to see a lot more out of a guy with his athleticism and a year to learn Selfball. Our freshmen looked better from the very beginning.
He looked better just walking into the program two years ago.
Guys get redshirted to improve their game. He hasn’t improved and it can be argued that he regressed.
