UCLA has a great history, but not like Kentucky. Nor does it have the same fan base. I think Kentucky is the better job.

@FarmerJayhawk it was rumored to be done but that was obviously before all of this.
Coaching at your alma matar I’m sure can be a pain in the ass and comes with added pressure so will be interesting to see what happens here in the next couple of weeks.
Wonder if Bama would make another run at Marshall…

Hoiberg worked for one of the worst owners in sports Jerry Reinsdorf. He’s a cheapskate, and owns one of the worst NBA franchises and one of the worst baseball franchises, a team of which I am more of a fan than even KU, the White Sox. He offered a ton of money to Machado, but still did it in a way that was cheap and lost him. I think Fred can coach and wish him well.

Straight cash, homie. That buyout is massive and Wake isn’t exactly a financial powerhouse. I think it’s the smallest P5 school by a pretty good margin.

@Woodrow In the replies, a guy screenshot Goodman picking Prohm to replace Johnson an hour before he posted he didn’t think Prohm would take the Bama job. Either Goodman got new info inside that hour or he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth on Prohm.

@Texas-Hawk-10 those isu players had a lot of team problems this year. Besides the early suspensions, they had some fist fights at practice. It was shayok that hurt his toe, slammed in the door during all of this. Don’t they always have some guys in trouble?

Looks like Kelvin Sampson is staying at Houston. Good for them. Eric Musselman from Nevada is said to be a top candidate now for Arkansas. Doesn’t seem to be a good fit but who knows.
Also saw last night that Jerry Stackhouse is the top candidate for Vandy. If that happens it is guaranteed to be a dumpster fire.

IMHO, former NBA players generally don’t seem to make good college coaches. Jury is still out on Memphis, though…

Stackhouse has been coaching the G League team for Toronto (I think) for the last couple of years. The big question for those guys is whether or not they can recruit and how they handle boosters. Many of them are excellent coaches that just aren’t good recruiters.
College hoops is 40% coaching, 40% recruiting and 20% booster/alumni relations. If you’re a great recruiter, you can get by as a poor coach, or vice versa. But if you are weak in two areas (recruiting and alumni relations) you are screwed because that’s more than half your job, no matter how good a coach you are.

Buzz Williams about to go to A&M for an obscene amount of cabbage. Prob 6 mill annual. Would make him 4th highest paid coach ahead of Self by 1.5 mill.

in all seriousness Bill is probably underpaid .@BeddieKU23 Gary Parrish was on the radio this week taking about how that is basically Buzz’s philosophy. If you take a new job every 5-7 years you are basically resetting your shot clock. He probably wasn’t going to do any better at Va Tech so it was a good time to get out. Also helps when A&M is going to grossly overpay you.
I do think Buzz is a great coach though. He will do well at A&M and that just adds more pressure to Shaka and Texas.

Cal gets over $9 million per year, Self gets around $5million per. Self has 3 years left on his deal…a big payday should be coming soon.
