That's a tough team
-
Guess some coach showed up to coach them how to deal w/this crap… hmmmm
-
These Jayhawks are road warriors. What a great game.
-
@Eric-san I miss hearing from you!
-
Sort of cancels out the home loss, I’d say.
-
Is it me, or did we see a semblance of a real “team” tonite? They might have just gotten an identity … they looked to me like a band of brothers fighting hard and playing scrappy tough D and sticking together. Let’s hope it’s a big step forward!!
(Awaiting a pithy lengthy tome on this subject from Sir Jay of Bate…)
-
@HawkChamp THIS IS WHY WE LOVE OUR JAYHAWKS!!!

You are correct. They fought side by side through thick and thin.
-
Good production from the bench, 17 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 3 fouls from Vick, Lightfoot and De Sousa…and 54 minutes.
-
How ironic…our thinnest, softest team guts one out on Morgantown down 16. Unreal!
-
This was easily the best win of the season. The type of win the creates a tone the rest of the way. DG and Svi were clutch. Huge play by Mitch late. Just a great team win. Self had the boys ready to capitalize.
-
Wow that was fun! I don’t think Vic liked not starting! Dok looks better every game. And DeSousa is gonna be good. This could get interesting…
-
This might end up being the turning point of the season when the team finally found its groove.

Once Silvio knows what he is doing he is going to be a force. Probably next year.
-
And on the road, we only got outrebounded by 3! And got to the line as well. They fouled us more that we fouled them… we played aggressive and didn’t solely rely on 3’s
All good signs mon freres
-
@BShark I’m hoping for March of this year!
-
Well Huggins was right about seniors stepping up. It just wasn’t his seniors.
So proud of Grahambo and Svi.
-
@Fightsongwriter Oh it’s very real
-
That looked like fantastic defense. Even Svi had some moments in the 2nd half.
The whole team had its moments. Newman impressed me at the end with his possessionS of the ball. Mitch had energy and was often in just the right spots. Svi bounced back in a huge way. Devonte was great, of course, but if someone takes him out of the game defensively, I have more confidence that the rest of our team can make up the slack. Vick can’t yet shoot off the dribble, but he’s learning to play within himself and become more possession-oriented.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich You think DG was gonna let grandma down??
-
@Fightsongwriter She needs to be at every game.
-
Was just about to say that, bshark.
-
Folks…DG played all 40 min. Talk about a STUD!!!

Yep. And Cunliffe did not play a single minute. Insight into Self’s mind here.
-
@BShark makes me kinda sad. I like sam and think he has a lot to contribute.
-
Biggest thing. Team defense 2nd half. Rebounding also improved. We don’t have to out rebound everyone. Just fight more for them like tonight. I was proud of the team for their effort whether we won or lost. Much nicer to win and hopefully its something they can look at on tape and see the right way to do things and how they can improve even more from here. Should be a team builder, a toughness builder, and a confidence booster. Maybe just what they needed to turn a very important corner.
-
@Fightsongwriter I think this topic deserves a thread so I’m gonna make one.
-
That was worthy of a . Had faith in their playing to win. Counts so much to get this win.
-
TOs and short bench didn’t kill us this time!
-
Amazing how few fast break points! Of course, all those block minimized ours…
-
Hawks whipped their nuts out loud and proud to swing for all to see tonight! Those were some of the biggest cajones I’ve seen in a very long time from a KU team.
This is one of the most impressive wins by any team in the country this year.
-
Now I can go back and RE-WATCH the game in the morning on Espnu - and not be are worries - -just knowing the end result. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY – IT’S ON AT 6:00 A.M if interested
-
I usually am less angry about officiating the next day, but the technical foul on Doke was still bs. Let the kid play.

I wonder what Fran thinks of it.
-
@BShark More likely, Squeaky will complain about the lack of more fouls called on KU and how this game ruined KSU’s season.
-
@mayjay Somehow the refs at Allen Field House were to blame for KU’s comeback win last night.
-
@BShark And maybe those butterfly wings in China.

@Hawk8086 NO

Sounds like an ISU fan.
-
-
@mayjay Do we win this game without Silvio?
-
I thought I saw this in real time…blew it off. I re-watched the last 12 minutes before going to bed and saw it again. I guess my favorite player Vick said something that may have irked Ol’ Mr. Huggins.
-
In the second half Vick got called for a foul comitted by two WVU players on the guy Vick was chasing. Evidently the ref couldn’t decide which WVU player to call it on and made the politically correct decision to call it on Vick. LaGerald looked away smiling.

Classic!
They also took away a foul in the first half from Jevon Carter and gave it to someone not in the play. Then when Carter picked up a 2nd half foul that should have been his 3rd it was only his 2nd.
-
@BeddieKU23 The other guy was in front of our player and Carter was trailing. I thought it was a bad call in real time until they changed the call to the other guy, and I thought at the time that replay confirmed it was not Carter. I will look at the original view in slo-mo, tonite, though.
-
@Gunman We don’t win without anyone who played!
-
Vick has started receiving some heat for turning passive. It’s about time! A big reason for our mediocre play so far in Big 12 play has related to Vick going invisible.
However… struggle often leads to gains. With Vick struggling, it put even more pressure on Malik to find his game. Malik still has a long ways to go, but he is consistently hustling more while on the floor.
This team is making gains! Doke improves every game, we are getting our depth lined out, and our guards are starting to take on more responsibility (but still need much better defense), and Devonte is starting to really show leadership.
Devonte took ownership last night! He became very vocal and demonstrative with his troops last night… and that was HUGE!
So many good signs from last night’s game… we have a long ways to go, but it was great to see improvements!
-
I loved how Devonte bumped into Svi after that careless turnover. He was pissed at Svi. He wanted this game. Svi took it like a champ too. Then on the bench you could tell Devonte was trying to build him up again.
I see a future coach in Devonte! Hmm… I’m trying to think of a charismatic coach with a great smile who tears kids down then builds them up…

You can just see Doke maturing progressing. - last year even if he hadn’t been hurt he would of fouled out in the first 12 minutes of the game. - -This is one area he is getting better at being able to stay on the floor , rebounding getting better – just his presence makes a huge difference. - - I was so glad to see him with that edge some attitude the stare after the monster flush - the T was total BS. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
