Self wishes he could've gotten this guy

  • Collin Sexton. This dude is apparently lighting it up. And I guess he’s in beast mode all the time. I haven’t seen him play yet, but I don’t know if we have anyone on this year’s team who even HAS a beast mode.

Except Udoka, but … well… I guess it’s in hibernation until reinforcements come in? (And does Dok even LIKE playing basketball?)

  • @chriz Sexton scored 40 against minnesota…with only 2 other Tide players on the court against 5. The dude is the real deal holyfield.

  • I wish he had come to Kansas. His whole attitude changes everything. He can put the whole team on his back with his mentality and skill.

  • Really disappointing. Especially having known his dad was paid for him to go to Alabama. And the penalty, a 1 game suspension.

    What a joke.

We really could have used him or T-Young. Or Duvall. Really, just another guard who can score somewhere on the court besides a 3 pointer. But more importantly, the DeAndre Ayton miss is what has killed us the most.

  • I assumed this would be about Trae Young before I opened it. But yeah this kid is the best PG in the country. Not sure it’s close.

  • @Kcmatt7

Yeah… Young is having an excellent senior year!

    Oh… uh… wait a minute… freshman year!

Man, that kid can play! I could see OU trashing us big if we don’t get our snit together.

  • @drgnslayr Exciting guy to watch. I really didn’t see this explosion coming from him his freshmen year. I honestly thought he was just another Frankamp… Boy was I wrong.

  • @Kcmatt7

I knew he was a much better baller than Frankamp, but I thought it would just start to show at the end of this season. What I see out of him now is what I expected at the end. Frightening to think what he might be like in March!

I didn’t think we had to worry about OU until next year. Huh… I should have known that Lon would get more out of his guys.

It’s his only year as he’s creeping up the NBA boards into the lottery discussion

  • Unless there were some personal reasons, like his mom or dad went there, I’m not all that impressed by a kid going to Alabama to play basketball. Of course really good players choose odd schools every year, but you’ve got to wonder sometimes with these kids.

Not sure what’s least impressive, him picking Alabama or Self letting him pick Alabama.

  • We haven’t had a guy get to the bucket this explosively since Tyshawn. BIFM could get there but was much more methodical about it (which is fine, obviously works well for him).

But looks like Sexton can finish better than Tyshawn. At least from the highlights that i saw. Which of course show no misses. But still, i bet he’s a heck of a finisher.

  • @chriz Not sure what’s least impressive, him picking Alabama or Self letting him pick Alabama.

Maybe Coach Self didn’t want to pay him off like Alabama.

  • The only way Sexton plays for KU is on the practice squad with Preston. The NCAA really punishes those who self report and the whole ineligible until proven eligible is backwards when compared to our legal system. I know it’s to prevent sanctions, but it can drain a kids eligibility.

  • Sexton is from the south, and he wasn’t a high recruit until later, so KU wasn’t in on him early like Alabama was. Those things have an effect. Dwyane Wade went to Marquette because they were the only school to stick with him through everything. That kind of thing matters to some kids, especially kids that are overlooked, or late bloomers.

  • In the end Sexton like Trae Young choose to stay close to home and go to a school that allowed them all the freedom they wanted. The more time has passed the more Ben Simmons & Fultz seem to be situations these kids chose to follow. Both could have ended up at KU or other big time programs and instead choose places they knew would give them the ability to put up shots and control the ball the majority of the time. Both kids have seen their stock go up or stay the same so right now it looks like good decisions on their end

  • @BeddieKU23 I read Young takes over 60% of OU’s shots.

Crazy but given the rest of the team I bet Lon wants him taking shots over some of his other guys

  • @BeddieKU23 wsu ou game will be interesting. Young doesn’t play much D. Wonder if wsu is quick enough to slow him down. Should be a good game. Big 12 needs to beat them.

  • @KUSTEVE

Maybe KU should have paid Billy’s mom the cost of a new car…he would be playing by now. Just kidding…

  • @JayHawkFanToo Good point. A 1 game suspension for taking a bribe. And Billy is still dangling in the wind.

I don’t know, “Mr. Sexton, Director of Basketball Operations” has a nice ring to it.

  • @chriz

NCAA does not allow it anymore.

  • @chriz

Director of Basketball Operation is not a coaching position.

  • lol ok u get my drift though

  • If they told Michael Porter SR to pound sand, I doubt they’d do anything for Sexton’s dad. Given the current climate, I’d say this was a good decision.

Sexton is REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL good though, no doubt.

  • @chriz

A lot of KU haters call it the Manning-Chalmers rule. 😄

  • @dylans The delays after self-reporting are sometimes due, it seems to me, to lack of transparency from the families and others receiving or getting payoffs.

OTH, maybe KU has a major cloud obscuring everything questionable that occurs. It took how long for the JJ facts to come out? The dorm crime is still unresolved. The 'Stache has mysteriously disappeared. Carlton’s pipe took awhile. We didn’t even know about Vick:s freshman year problem until last year. It seemed to take forever and a private lawyer for the facts to come out about about Cliff and, IIRC, Diallo. Selby’s family friend, Ben’s trip–lots of investigations, sometimes a several game sanction, but not a lot of clarifying reports.
