Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread

  • @mayjay

…but…would that environment prepare him at all for the draft and NBA? If he wants to get the best training for the next level, New Orleans is not it, KU is.

  • @Kcmatt7

    good points.

  • @BShark i’m going to call it…NEXT!

  • @BShark This is getting to be more of a soap opera by the minute I mean WKU - -Now New Orleans, add this to the fact he notifies the WKU Coach that he is leaving withdrawing from WKU via a TEXT? - -really?

I’m beginning to wonder is it really worth it - -you add in the possibility even if it’s a remote possibility you add let’s say he tells KU staff ya I’m coming, doesn’t get a waiver sits the year, works out with the team and then next year when it’s time BAM he leaves without ever touching the floor and or playing a second for KU. Now whether it’s the parents, relation, or some other kind of outside influence, giving him some grief/false information it’s not good seem like the cons could just in the end run outweigh the pro’s

One thing is for sure, If I read things right he has to make some kind of a decision one way or another pretty soon I think maybe at the latest by the end of the month, again maybe the reason he is visiting New Orleans is that he didn’t hear what he was wanting to hear from Coach OR Coach didn’t hear what he wanted to hear and said - - -good luck, were not going to be able to offer/help you - -I just don’t see a positive news coming away from this, I think we are done with this. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @KUSTEVE YEP time to pull anchor, before all this came up it looked very likely that we would be playing with 8 starting out anyways, Coach had said that they were still looking but said it would have to fall into their lap - -well the situation fell into our lap - - just not the right situation - -time to go, didn’t hurt to feel it out, we didn’t lose anything, we are going to be fine either way- - -run a lot of 4 guard with the 4 we got gonna cause some real problems have the Scholi for next year cause very well might end up needing all we can get. You look at the departures/possible earlies: - - -Graham, Newman, SVI, Doke, Vick - - I just think the kid is soooooo confused/ pressured but you gonna sit and developat New Orleans/Tulane - -come on. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • JayHawkFanToo said:

    @Crimsonorblue22

It could be Tulane…if he is considering Tulane or New Orleans, then he is wanting a place where he will be the star and have guaranteed playing time, something he will not get at KU. If that is his attitude, and I am not saying it is, just thinking aloud…does KU really want him?

It’s been confirmed that it’s UNO he is visiting.

  • Also people very tied in to KU were convinced this was done and he said he would come to KU. Soooooooo I mean, I suppose like I said nothing should surprise with a kid that just abruptly left the campus of WKU w/o telling anyone.

  • Recruiting is a helluva drug.

  • trying to follow recruiting gives me a head ache lol. - -Calgon - -take me away lmao. – ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark

He could be satisfying his mother’s wish by taking the visit to NO considering how close it is from home. Without trying to read too much from this its hard not to judge his actions to date

  • You know and I know this might sound really crazy, and even though have heard nothing other then the one day and that is on Zion Williamson.

Seems to me as time goes on I have no idea why but just feeling a little better about the possibility of landing at KU. Now I don’t have any new hot tips/leads to back me p on this other then what has already been talked about here, but I’m just feeling MAYBE - -things might just surprise some people.

Mainly the two reason well the obvious third but the main two - -Devon Dotson be a friend of his, still kind of odd that Devon gets added to Zion’s AAU team late and they turn things around, Zion likes playing with him and says they could play together at the same place and # 2 The shoe Adias right? as we know when they stick their nose in which they do, they have some pull - -then # 3 obviously is just Coach Self and KU overall. I just wonder - -is there a legit chance? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 -Some of his actions to say the least Questionable - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

If Zion lands at KU we will know in full effect what shoe affiliation can do for a program. He is the face of Adidas.

I don’t think his friendship with Devon or KU offering his teammate has as much influence as Adidas has here. As Slater pointed out both of these moves were not coincidence. They want Zion to be the face of Adidas with how big his brand already is. We are talking what Curry is to Under Armour or what Lebron is to Nike.

It doesn’t hurt that KU has an unbelievable track record with athletic wings like him and is one of the premiere programs out there. KU is a safe school for him because the offense would go through him and we won’t hurt his brand or draft stock unless he didn’t live up to the hype.

KU certainly helped itself this summer but we’ll see if we still have the same momentum whenever he decides to get serious about where he’s going (which could be anywhere from fall to spring)…

  • Is a full scholarship too high of a price to play for a practice player if he will not be cleared and he is bound and determined to be a OAD? I would say yes.

KU can probably get some former players such as Pollard, Simien , Gooden or currently unemployed Jeff Withey to come and practice with the bigs for a lot less than the cost of a full scholarship.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Maybe something like this happened “Mama, I’ve made my decision and I am going to go to KU. I’m committing for two years and it will mean an extra year in college before going to the NBA because I’m giving them my word.”

“Ok, I’ll support you but before you make your decision final, would you at least take a look at the local school just down the street? Please? Do it for me. This way at least you can say that you fairly considered all of the options before making this big decision in your life.”

“Ok fine, I’ll call coach Self and let him know what is going on and will take the visit to UNO.”

Lol, just speculating but based on all of the insider tips that were floating around it would fit with the actions he is taking. Perhaps I’m just trying to cling on to any hope I can. Either way, it sure has been quite the rollercoaster.

  • @RockkChalkk

A good speculative stance to take.

Here’s another. He’s visiting the local school because sitting a year isn’t what he wants to do and he can train for the NBA while staying close to home. NO might see this as a win-win because A) they’ve never had someone of his talent on the roster (even if its to practice), 'B) helps with recruiting, C) would look good to the university if he gets drafted next year (which helps with B again).

This is definitely one of the more bizarre situations that KU has been involved with

  • UNO? Really, UNO? The UNO that’s gone to the dance eight times? Well at least he’ll be close to home and Lake Pontchartrain.

  • This is from a WKU person that posted on the phog. So, tfwiw but if true…

"Stansbury recruited Robinson when Stansbury was an assistant at Texas A&M. Stansbury went to WKU as head coach and he re-recruited Robinson. Stansbury also hired Shammond Williams (Robinson’s Godfather) as an assistant coach. Turns out that was a mistake. SW while on staff was trying to get Robinson to go to China and play pro with SW being his agent. Stansbury found out and that is why SW resigned. By then all the talk in Robinson’s ear by SW, made Robinson bolt. Huge mistake on Robinson’s part. All he had to do was play one season at WKU and his future should have been secured. As for playing at WKU, with Robinson, WKU had the 8th ranked recruiting class in the nation and that did not count a couple of 4 star players that sat out last year. Anybody that is a long time basketball fan knows that WKU has a long tradition with basketball. WKU is working to get back some of that tradition.

Keep in mind that Robinson is very raw. He did not start playing basketball until his sophomore year. Talk was he did not like getting banged around in practice by bigger stronger players. That is something he is going to have to get used to if he expects to make it at the professional level. Kid actually seems to be a good kid, but was getting bad advice. His mother was pushing him to stay at WKU."

  • @BShark I bet Dwight had no idea he was getting into such upheaval!

  • @BShark And Embiid started playing bb when? How’d that work out for him?

  • @brooksmd Not my words please keep that in mind.

  • @BShark I know.

  • Also yeah, some sour grapes at the end there. This kid has a lot of talent and ability.

  • Well I’m thinking I might have found the answer to our problem with the lack of a big man depth.

After long consideration and discussing it over with the family - -I’ve decided I am going to enroll at KU and play for KU.

I can post them up with the best - I’m 6 ft and have the bulk 205 lbs only had 3 back surgeries and 2 knee surgeries, I know I could make it up and down the floor at least twice a game, I definitely can finish a play flushing as long as I have a sturdy step ladder and get Mitch to hold it for me - -planning on talking to Coach I’m sure he will offer, BUT on ONE condition - I have to have proof I will start lmao - -what ya think guys? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 you’ll probably fall off the ladder and kill mitch

  • @jayballer54

Confucius says: Man with broken nose must not hold ladder. 😃

  • @BShark If he was smart, he would pick up the phone, tell Stansbury he made a big mistake, and head right back to WKU.

  • He’ll pull a Simmons, go a semester and fold.

  • 2020 PG Bryce Thompson coming to KU for an unofficial tomorrow. Dad played for Self at Tulsa.

Lmao - - -Oh - -that wouldn’t be good lol, but hey I would be a great rim protector lol. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Heard Matt Scott say bad info on Robinson visiting NO. Not true. Who knows?

  • @JayHawkFanToo Well at least that isn’t as bad as what Crimsonorblue said lol - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • RJ BARRETT HAS CUT KU.

  • 💩

  • Blame Nike. Honestly since he was never coming to KU, I’m glad he cut KU now. Let’s go get BOTH Zions!!! ❗

  • Well I realize something or so it seems with Robinson, I believe Robinson either reached out to Coach Self to see about visit Or Coach Self touched base with him to see if eh would be interested in visit, Bottom line is, it sure looks like interest in KU was totally Robinson - -and not Robinson’s parents - -seems like they are totally against KU being his destination. maybe I’m wrong just seems like he is/was on an island by himself as far as KU. - -IF that is truly the case - -that’s really sad. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • So Matt Scott says the reports of the UNO visit were false. Eric Bossi just posted that the visit just wrapped up, i.e. that it happened with a decision expected soon. This one is hard to keep up with.

  • @RockkChalkk Gary bedore said he was visiting there mon, I believe. I give up

  • What the hell - -Oh well let’s see, let me look at my cards, my fortune cookie - Oh yes very clear Mitchell Robinson will decide about where he plays sometime. - -These guys I’m tellin ya where are they getting their information from? - -Dam, aren’t they surpose to have SOME KIND of in with these guys, or source? - -Sure doesn’t seem to be the case. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Someone got lied to, WHAT FUN.

  • It down to ku and New Orleans for Mitchell Robinson

  • Well at least goes to show, once again Matt Scott doesn’t have a clue to what he is talking about.

Read from the New Orleans- Times-Picayune this morning, that Robinson yes indeed did visit yesterday, and is reported to chose between KU & New Orleans, and the decision will be soon, although no date given.

Said he had visited KU - -LSU - -& New Orleans But sources had confirmed LSU was no longer recruiting him. This has mama written all over it, or mama and daddy wanting Mitchell to stay close to home. - I think the KU visit was purely Mitch’s idea - -desire, and more likely then not will in the end run cave to the pressure of mom and dad, even though he stated he was making his own decisions now. I also just think possibly like has been mentioned, if he doesn’t get the waiver, which is unlikely then chances are mom and dad have told him he can be right there at home, work and train 10 miles from home with New Orleans U & then declare the following year for the NBA and not have to leave home.

The only thing or question I would have on this is - -quite possibly mama wants him to stay close so they can watch him play, that’s great but if he doesn’t get the waiver what difference does it make if he is close to home anyways? - -the following year he is off to the NBA. - - Well whatever happens the guy is a stud , his Senior yr 20.9 ppg - -13.6 rpg - - & 8.1 blks pg - -that’s a line to talk about - -I don’t car who you are - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I get the feeling from some of his retweets that he doesn’t want to wait an extra year to get his big payday. I’ve never been in that position so its hard to say how I would react if I was in his shoes, it has to be tough. I will say though, I was a college athlete (many years ago) and my college years were definitely some of the best years of my life. Staying an extra year in college would be far from a terrible option in my opinion.

Training for one year while being a practice guy at UNO will probably be the quickest and best way to get that big payday. However, putting in his time, developing his game, playing against top level competition at KU every day will delay the first big payday at least a year but can give him a better chance at sticking in the NBA and getting that 2nd and 3rd big payday. If he goes early I hope he makes it, its always sad to see guys go early and end up cut in a year or two.

  • @RockkChalkk In your day, if someone gave you a chance, even if not guaranteed, to earn millions of dollars to leave without doing college sports would you have turned it down?

This is why I think kids should be able to go through the draft and come back to school if they don’t like their spot. Maybe address the Robinsons of the world by saying this is only a possibility for someone who has (1) completed a year of participation in (2) good academic standing.

  • College is only really needed in a handful of careers. Joining the NBA isn’t one of those professions. That being said I’d sure like the kids that choose to go to college to make a multi-year commitment.

  • I still like the baseball rule. You can go to the MLB directly from HS but if you choose to got to college you have to wait 3 years which gives the student athlete a chance to get most of his school work done and if necessary, come back to complete the school work and get a degree.

  • Locke has set his OVs, KU is not one of them.

Looks like all-in on Grimes and Dotson.

  • @BShark And is there something wrong with all in on those two? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Nope. Better land them though, when you take this approach.
