Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread

  • Scuttlebutt from other boards is Robinson will commit today to KU. Only about 1/4 the commitment we need depending on how the school chooses to deal with his situation…

  • @BShark Ya that’s what I’m afraid of bud. Is he a Williamson ? - -umm no - -Is he a Barett? - -umm no - -But what he is - -is a pretty decent player looks like to me and he is headed up. I’m like yo I’m afraid if he visits and wants to commit and we try and hold off have him wait -Then ya he is gone and then who knows if we land Williamson Or Barret either one and end up zero for three.

I just think these are the kind of kids if they want to commit to us - -then we take them, solid Player sure isn’t gonna hurt ya I don’t think. I think we need to take him if he wants to commit. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 What do you mean only about 1/4 the commitment? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23 do you think the sources are reliable? I’m seeing nothing to make me think he is moving towards that decision.

  • @RockkChalkk I haven’t heard he was planning another visit or seeking an agent?

  • @jayballer54

    Agree.

ISU fans are hoping KU slowplays him.

Probably not reliable. It didn’t happen yesterday but could still be in the works over the next few days.

Obviously it will be exciting if he does commit but we literally have no idea how anything will play out.

If the school seeks a waiver and wins, great Robinson gambled and won, gets to play, then he’s gone for the draft next spring. That’s a win-win for both sides. It’s the only scenario that guarantee’s his scholarship is used for the benefit of the team and himself.

If the school seeks a waiver and he loses, the floodgate of possibilities exist. This is where committing is only about 1/4 the commitment we need at that point.

Committing -1/4. Sitting out the year commitment- 1/4, passes on NBA draft- 1/4, makes it through summer/fall without leaving- 1/4.

I’ll give this kid major respect if he has to sit and goes through with it. I think its unexpected someone in his position and talent will do that. I hope I’m wrong

  • Video game society…it used to be players came out of college way more prepared for the NBA. Now everyone (not just ball players) want everything handed to them today. It’s crazy! Too many pity parties for guys not making enough money straight out of college, working to the top takes a little time. Many OADs are the same - want it handed to them before they ride off into the sunset…well they’re going to have to work some more to be successful and that hits some pretty hard.

  • I hope Robinson doesn’t shy away from making a commitment to KU if KU will commit to him.

  • @dylans I think they are waiting on what the NCAA says whether he is eligible or not. This kid’s ego is not going to allow him to sit on the bench for a year waiting to be eligible, imo. He is already being listed in mock drafts as a top 15 pick. i expect if he isn’t eligible, he won’t go to college at all.

  • @dylans Hey hey hey. That type of post doesn’t belong on this topic. You want to hash out how “young people” are worthless entitled little brats today then start a topic on the politics side and I’d be glad to debate that with you. But we have generations of all ages on here and that generalization is a major insult to a lot of us.

Can KU really go to bat for him without him being apart of KU though? I think he has to be apart of the team/university first then if he goes through the process to get a waiver and doesn’t get one he either can leave or stay and train…

From what I understand it’s done to KU. He’s getting backlash from his circle who wants him in the NBA next year no matter what.

Oh and Devon Dotson news… Up to top 20 (and 5 stars) on 247. Doesn’t change how he is as a player, but a deserved bump imo.

Dotson really upped his game this summer. There are a ton of similarities between his game and some former and current hawks!

He’s got a lot of BIFM in his game.

  • @KUSTEVE Agree, the longer this goes the less chance I believe him playing at KU. I don’t really think it matters to him as far as committing or not, about the NCAA. I just feel the way things have went with him, If he was going to commit to Ku he would of committed on his visit or shortly like Monday or at least yesterday, I just feel he would of committed and then if the NCAA said he had to sit - -he would just say NOPE I’ll sit out and declare next year for the NBA, he goes ahead and commits IF HE WERE GOING TO and then waits, if they clear then he says cool if not he says BYE. - I just think he has decided to sit out and train for the NBA next year. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

He will announce for KU. Today or tomorrow. Likely today.

I think he said the opposite. Mitchell will end up at KU in spite of his family/people around him wanting otherwise

  • It’s his circle that pushed him to WKU, which he hated. It’s a difficult situation here. Recruiting is often messy and usually it never comes to the surface. When Slater posts who is running a recruitment, I tend to believe him.

  • Well a couple of quotes from Zion Griffin pulled off the Iowa State Board.

Concerning Iowa State from a poster: Zion says I’ve always liked the Big 12. Iowa State has been one of my favorite teams, I feel like they are a really good fit for me.

My deadline is the end of Sept, if everything plays out I will commit at the end of my visits. The poster said it all sounded good BUT he says then Zion had this to say about KU:

KU is one of my biggest offers, I like KU, because I grew up watching KU, and a lot of my favorite players are from there. I feel like I can definitely see myself fitting in there with them offering me and wanting me on their team. It is a " Dream come true" - -" it is one of my favorite Colleges " - - -Sounds to me with his visit coming on late night the guy is ours for the taking if we want him - got to feel really god about him. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

Kid wants KU bad, but KU has to reciprocate and show he is really needed.

  • @BShark Well if that turn out to be the case then I am definitely all for it, but will feel MUCH better when it actually happens. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

Should be today. I think a lot of the delay is his circle being unhappy with him committing to play a year for Self/KU and it seeming unlikely that it will be this year.

Just pass the time by watching his highlights. If he plays next year Dedric + Robinson is the best starting front court in the country PERIOD.

  • @BeddieKU23 Gotcha, I understand now, it’s to bad that people can’t honor - -understand and respect the desire the wishes of the boy, - -If he didn’t really want to go to WKU in the 1st place sounds like he was just trying to satisfy everyone else no matter of his own feelings first time round. - -If I’m a parent I would want my son to be happy where he was at, not where I wanted him to be. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 Does anyone know why his godfather resigned? That was before Robinson started classes. The timing may hurt his family-ties argument.

  • @BShark Mercy, could you imagine?- - -OR IF for some reason Doke would come back next year also - -JUMPIN GEE HOSSIE TOADS, what a front line. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

It’s people beyond the parents sometimes unfortunately. Especially if the kid comes from a poor background. AAU is EXPENSIVE so sometimes a handler covers the cost for, you know, reciprocation later.

  • @mayjay Sorry me personally - -I don’t but you could very well be right - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Some kind of cleaning house according to WKU people. He wasn’t the only assistant that left.

I can’t speak for Mitchell but your right it does seem like his situation at WKU was forced upon him instead of what he wanted. He followed Williams and Stansbury and then found out he didn’t want it.

But now if we assume correctly that he’s about to make the decision he wants to make and that isn’t what others around him want then the situation is really not settled even if he comes here. How likely is it that the kid is going to shut those people out for good?

  • @BShark i like the way you think.

It’s going to be very difficult. If anyone has the panache it’s a coach like Self. Would also apply to Miller, Cal, K or Roy. I think it’s good that he is ending up at a blue blood with a big time coach.

  • @BShark Ya I hear ya bud and - -that blows, things have changed so much in my life time, things so much more complicated/ complex these days . - -When I was in School playing basketball many, many moons ago we didn’t have all these shoe companies competing against one another, we had Converse - -that was it, and they was the old Cloth type high top shoes not these fancy colored or different shoe things, your right gets or can get really ugly - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Whatever happens, taking Robinson is better than an open spot on the roster.

  • @mayjay

I haven’t seen that reason disclosed as of yet. Some speculate that Stansbury thought his relationship with Robinson was good enough that if he made the move to fire Williams that Mitchell would stick around anyway. Mitchell was committed to Texas A&M while Stansbury was on the staff and when he took the WKU gig and took Williams with him that is when Robinson switched.

I would speculate that Williams had some issues that could have been NCAA violation material if he was allowed to stay. You would think an assistant brought on to lure a Lottery pick type talent wouldn’t be dismissed mid-summer and shortly after teams are allowed to practice etc. Sounds to me that there are some things that Stansbury doesn’t want to bring attention to and just wanted to wipe his hands clean of any possible future issues.

  • @BShark

It’s crazy that KU is in this position in August.

  • @BeddieKU23 Ya, I hear ya, it just sounds like a real mess. - -I mean what’s happened to family? - -Respect for the other, just another situation of being all about me , me, me - -Now seems like the family is just wanting/pushing towards the NBA - -soon, real soon, all about the money, money, money - -just sad. - -feel sorry for Mitchell. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG

  • @BShark Without a doubt. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Slater was on the Duke board talking about Emmitt Williams handler. I think its safe to say we don’t have much of a chance of him switching from Nike to Adidas with him involved.

Another side note. The Duke board is completely delusional. They are still talking about Dotson like they have a chance/or were recruiting him.

  • @jayballer54 I misread the situation. I didn’t realize his whole family was in meal ticket mode.

  • Mitchell Robinson will be visiting New Orleans

  • Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein)

  • Former Western Kentucky commit Mitchell Robinson is expected to visit New Orleans today, per a source. Visited Kansas last weekend.

  • Well that’s a bit of a downer.

  • Jerry Meyer had a video blog on Facebook earlier and I caught part of it. The highlight are.

No recent news on Robinson but if he is playing college ball at all it will be KU.

Dotson- A bigger more developed version of Frank Mason at similar stages but without the outside shot that he will develop in college.

Zion Williamson - Freakish athlete. He played very weak competition in HS and his AAU team was not very good. Many consider him a tweener and at KU he might play the 3 or the 4 like Jackson did. Being the poster boy for Adidas gives KU an advantage.

KU offers to more people than other blue blood schools and hence it looks like it misses on many but in the end it does just fine. This time around KU is well ahead and better positioned than other years.

No inside scoop at all or anything that we have not heard before.

  • Well then, this is something with Robinson. Guess nothing should come as a surprise at this point…
