… that someone has exposed which were behind a paywall. I’m merely acknowledging its existence.
As they mentioned in the post, the searchable index is temporarily down, but the cache remains up here: https://ipfs.io/ipfs/bafykbzaced4xstofs4tc5q4irede6uzaz3qzcdvcb2eedxgfakzwdyjnxgohq/
@JayHawkFanToo There were 3 elements to the statement I proposed, none of which were in Trump’s actual statement. Even Fox accepted that Trump backtracked from the middle statement that contained some condemnation.
@JayHawkFanToo Require all phones to sound a siren when a retina is visible to the screen in a crosswalk! Or enforce it with a laser! Goon squads with long butterfly nets with which they seize phones! C’mon, there is opportunity for some creative inventioneering for you engineer types here!!
I don’t blame the Illegal Immigrants or the companies. I mean why blame the companies? After all our Federal government refuses to enforce the law of the land. (well with Trump things are changing) Think about it? We have sanctuary cities? Yes were if an illegal immigrant breaks the law they are let go, for fear of deportation. This is our own government local and federal. (Well not so much with Trump).
Why wouldn’t a US company hire illegal immigrants for pennies on the dollar? After what the real punishment?
We are on the brink of a huge double whammy in this country - the need for a highly educated, highly skilled workforce (particularly with technical and computer skills), but the lack of any means to get the education necessary to get those jobs. Look at the countries that are consistently producing the most technically skilled workers - they are all under a variety of regimes politically, but they all have one thing in common - higher education is either very cheap, or it is free.
Doubling back to @Kcmatt7 and his point, the debt load on students leaving school is simply too high and it is going to cause many students to re-think whether college is a viable path. If education is too high to make the higher salary justifiable, smart kids simply won’t pursue college if they are not on scholarship, or will pursue lower degrees (i.e. associates rather than bachelors, or bachelors rather than a graduate degree). Because most businesses have outright dropped on the job training, it is very difficult to increase education while working without returning to school part time, meaning many workers will not get any education beyond the highest level they have prior to entering the workforce.
How does the US compete with Europe and Asia when they educate their youth for free, while we make it incredibly expensive (and don’t look now, but Africa is doing much the same)?
To me, Switzerland and Canada are perfect examples of minding your own damn business and taking advantage of your own resources. We are too intertwined into global politics. We cause war in areas to exploit them. We meddle in other countries elections for OUR benefit (sound familiar?). And, we give our Federal Government far too much power to make decisions that effect 321 million people.
Our entire Federal Government is broken. All 3 branches. I am not particularly a Trump fan, nor do I think he can do enough damage in 4 years (or less) to really hurt the U.S. in an irreversible way. But Congress should be able to do a complete investigation into the Russia dealings. Trump basically has worked around it, but shouldn’t be able to.
The president should not be in charge of choosing the Supreme Court Nominees. And it should take the hefty majority of votes to elect that person in.
You also shouldn’t be able to executive order left and right. That’s absurd. I like the council idea, because at least you could put it to a vote that way.
And finally, having only two parties and no national vote on major legislation is complete nonsense. It takes all of the common sense out of laws and adds unnecessary items just to appease a couple of swing votes.
The US constitution was written by brilliant people with the right ideas at heart. But they couldn’t see the future and they underestimated the drunkenness created by power. Wholesale changes need to be made to the constitution, but the only way that will ever happen is if we have one brave sole essentially infiltrate one of the two major parties like a secret agent and rise to the top, not get trapped under the spell of the ring, and be strong enough to throw it into Mount Doom.
