The KState series and the West Virginia series at the end of the year will be very important for them.

RE: Quest for the Postseason
For anyone that hasnt followed KU Baseball much this year, KU had a game where they went back to back to back to back to back homeruns. 5 in a row! Never seen that before at any level. Super impressive. There’s a video of it out there but I still havent figured out how to post them.

Quest for the Postseason
First thread! Thank you @approxinfinity for creating this new page.
I really think KU has a shot at making the post season this year. Would be fun to watch them in the tournament and see what they can do! Big 12 normally gets 6-7 teams, think KU has a chance to dance.

@dylans well seems like we are interested in tv shows, gardening, wisconsin basketball, and probably a few other things most people can get behind?
I’d still love to see a KU Baseball section on here!

RE: Swirling Bill Rumors
I would be good with Oats if Bill taps out. Not the others.

RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
It has been tough to watch the last few years. The play on the court has been a big drop off. The Juan stuff and now Flory has really burned.

RE: NCAA Tournament Discussion
@Texas-Hawk-10 that’s wild. Sounds like his players aren’t the only one’s blatantly travelling. He’s now travelling as well… to a new team!

RE: Off-season Conditioning
College athletes are given summer workout programs to do. Usually there is a ‘test’ upon return of break. (conditioning, core lifts, body fat, etc.). If athletes don’t pass the tests there is usually some sort of consequences. KU is an elite program, if players are not self motivated enough to do their part to help the team they are not the kind of players we should have in this program.

Yes, every single one for as long as i can remember. Decades.

RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
I still have faith in Bill. Going to zone against Ark almost won him the game. I think Harris, Hunter, and KJ leaving will unlock some more more clarity for him. The ultimate team killer these last 5 years was Harris and Bill sticking with him as long as he did. He killed any chances the team had to go far and he seemed to get worse every year. He was very strong on defense early in his career and that even went downhill. He brought nothing to the table and took dimensions away from a team that is normally dynamic. Bad shooter, bad passer, doesn’t value the ball, doesn’t lead vocally, average at dribble penetration. I’m so happy to see him gone. What bothers me the most are the small things, how come we don’t have real leaders on the team? Think back to Devonte Graham. He would be pulling the team together on the floor for quick huddles, arms around each other, etc. Positive reinforcement, etc. These guys just play with emotionless faces which is a reflection of Harris’ demeanor whether they are up 30 or down 30, its the same. As PG and senior, he sets the tone and it has been horrible for so long.
Another thing that I think reflects on Bill is the team doesn’t run anymore. They used to be able to run fast break over and over and utilize elite athleticism and beat other teams down the court for layups. If that happens 5-6 times per game (which is usually on the low end) thats 10-12 easy points of an advantage over the other team. Any missed shot was a fast break, even after some makes. With Harris running the show it was always a slow dribble up the court and start running the most vanilla offense I can recall seeing. There are very few run plays. And when they do, they run them slow and with bad passes. Its terrible. PG needs to set the example for everyone else and his example has led to this steady decline. Hopefully we get back to real KU basketball starting next year with guys in the mold of Dotson, Frank, Graham, etc. Harris era has been a disaster.

@dylans it’s been weird for sure @RockkChalkk it ain’t his fault they keep showing him. He’s there supporting his country and several friends. Kinda like the Taylor Swift hate at chiefs games, she there supporting her BF literally nothing wrong with it.
I see your point. To me, I think he crosses the line by joining the studio for segments, when he is in the pool with Phelps for a segment, when he plants himself next to parents of kids about to compete in their big event, etc. The camera is obviously going to show the parents after their kid does their event and there he is again. It is just different than say, Tom Cruise who was there and shown a few times by the cameras but I didn’t get the sense that he was trying to steal the spotlight.

He has been my least favorite part. This is supposed to be about the athletes, not about some old washed up rapper stealing the spotlight from them. Way too much of him on the screen. The cameras should be focused on the athletes, their families, and their stories.

KU Baseball
I enjoyed the College World Series the past few years and was pulling hard for KU who came close to making it. They beat some teams in the B12 tourny that did a lot of damage in the world series. I think strength of schedule hurt them. Am hoping others were starting to grow interest in KU Baseball and we might see a new section on this board for any news/updates on the team during the offseason. There is usually a ton of movement in the transfer portal. Anyone else like this idea?

-
RE: Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster
…because there’s three things you live for. One is shitting on Dejuan, two is sitting on KJ, and three is worshipping the ground Dan Hurley walks on.
Yeah dude, Juan isn’t a toilet and KJ isn’t a chair.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Seems like we’re tracking to be above 12 scholarship players. Also, saw it mentioned somewhere that we might just jump back to 13 and forgo the reduction? How is that an option? I don’t follow that part.

Tyrese Hunter is so overrated. He has regressed every year in college. That is a hard pass for me.
I feel this way too. Are we really improving by bringing in the transfers we have been targeting? Seems like there is a lot of negative information on the ones out there, they’re former teams not really upset about them leaving. Wasn’t Tyrese Hunter basically replaced?
Mayo and Kugel are both great additions. I have not seen anything negative about Mayo, and I think people thought Kugel was going to be a starter. It appears that is not going to be the case, so I don’t see anything wrong with that. He did have some attitude issues last year, but new coaching staff, teammates, and scenery can change that.
Adding Rylan G. will be HUGE. We haven’t had someone like him in few years. Big time addition if it happens.
Texas added a 3 guards / wings in one day and Hunter left. I watched Texas a lot last year, and he does nothing for me.
Alright, I’m with you. I like Mayo a lot, and obviously Griffen would be great. The attitude issues worried me with Kugel, hopefully a new start will fix all that. Saw some things about AJ Storr’s defense being real bad. And obviously the Hunter stuff we agree on.
I just hope whoever we bring in gels well together and we get back to the top with a title run next year. Need better leadership on the court, keeping everyone together and in the game. The team always seemed to fold when they got behind a little bit and before you know it they were down 20+ points and its a blowout.

lol dang now that’s some trolling
Sorry, wasn’t meant to be a troll. Was hoping we had someone proven to be able to rotate in to the position. I’ve always thought some of the more effective lineups KU has had are when the 1 and 2 are almost interchangeable.

@BeddieKU23 said in Furphy:
He’s here on a student visa where US law prevents him from making $ from NIL unless he was to travel abroad etc. I don’t recall that he was even a first round pick last year but I could be wrong. He may go in the lottery this year so if both are true, I’d say he improved his stock a lot by coming back.
I should have explained the point I was trying to make. As it stands with International Players here on student visa’s, they cannot earn NIL the same way as others. While Furphy was a great last-minute addition to the team, I think its safe to assume if he could earn NIL like everyone else a 2nd year at KU would be likely. The risk KU and others take on International Players and trying to retain them year over year
Eh - I doubt this is the difference maker. Maybe its the excuse we are given but it may just be he wants to go. It hasnt been that long since the OG recruiting days, right? All those alleged backchannels cant be completely closed yet. There has to be a workaround where he could (legally of course) be compensated. I hear the Cayman Islands have some good banks…

As of now we have:
Returning:
Adams, Clemence, Dickinson, Furphy, Harris, Jackson, McDowell,
Signings:
Bidunga, Passmore, Philon
Transfers:
Kugel, Mayo
KU as is has a full roster. This will obviously change as players explore pro options and the enter the portal. It’s now a 1:1 as far as players leaving and players KU can bring in.
Thats 12. Full roster is normally 13. I’m guessing the one less is due to the scholarship penalty for one more year that I mentioned, is that correct?
-
RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
Just to check my math, is this correct?
Out: Braun, McCullar, Timberlake In: Flory, Philon, Passmore, Mayo, Kugel
The difference is the two scholarships we were ‘penalized’ and not able to use. Is that correct? I thought we still had another year with one scholarship short. Definitely fuzzy on all this history so don’t quote me on that one, ha.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Is he better than big dick? I watched him play several games and from what I recall, i’d give him the edge in rebounding and defense for sure. Scoring? I dont know.

RE: SO - Who Are You Rooting For?
I’m rooting for Houston at this point. Cheering on the B12. Agreed, if Houston gets bounced then its anyone except UCONN or Puke.
I’m not interested in the women but hoping for Not Iowa. (I’m on the anti-CC bandwagon).

RE: Transfer Rumblings
@kuballin10 there are probably many people who share your opinion but I think you could be more effective with the argument if you came at it less harshly. We are all passionate and want nothing but greatness for our jayhawks, its what unites us. I agree with you that Juan is holding us back from maximum performance. I am not sure I agree that KJ is a lock to start, even though if I had to choose between the two I would go with KJ. Didn’t KJ almost transfer out last year when there was talk of some recruits coming to KU? The elite studs aren’t plentiful and its even more rare that they appear in the portal. We landed two of the highest ranked players in the portal last year and both have underperformed expectations. It could be coaching, it could be over-hype, it could be lack of surrounding cast, or a mix of all. Its also really tough to build up a solid bench in the portal era because anyone good enough to be a bench piece at KU could start on many other teams out there.
Its tough to watch the transfers we missed on that sounded like locks at times last year (Nelson, Ingram, etc) doing well and knowing they could have been a huge help to our team. I hope Bill finds three top end guards and some rim protection/rebounding bigs to add to our roster. Need players with a strong will and won’t fold when things start going against us. We had so many losses that ended up as blowouts because the team kindof quit when we started to fall behind.
Lastly, I would love for coach to hunt for the next Frank Mason. These guys exist. Under ranked and perhaps undersized players with great ball skills and heart. Somehow KU identified him when so many others passed. Find the next guy in that mold and bring him in to develop. I hope we don’t become a team void of freshmen developing as backups. There won’t be room for many, but at least one G and one F.

@jayballer67 to be fair I do think Clark is dealing with being under a microscope like no women’s college basketball player before ever has while also dealing with a double standard. Kevin McCullar and Iowa state fans whine to officials way more than her.
I’ve never seen Kevin act like that towards officials. No way man. She looked like a spoiled rotten crybaby child in those clips. I was embarrassed for her. Genuinely makes me dislike her. That combined with the court storming flop. I am surprised more people haven’t turned on her by now. If she wasn’t bringing in so much money to the sport she would be blasted by the media. Can’t wait for the day we stop hearing about how many half court shots she chucked up and made. Enough.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
K-Yo was great, loved watching that guy play. Could run up and down the court like a gazelle and had some mad hops! He’s a great guy too, happily took a pic with me after one of the games. Always a smile on his face.

RE: Danny Manning
It certainly seems like the play of our bigs has dropped off over the years after Danny left. This season the most glaring deficiency is rebounding technique. Whether its connected to not having him anymore or not is still unknown.

RE: Bracket chat
How many charges will the Hawks get called for? I’m setting the over/under at 5.
How many senseless turnovers will they have trying to play backyard ball? I’m setting the over/under at 8.
How many fouls on three point shots will the Hawks have? I’m setting the over/under at 3.
Place your bets.

This is what drives me nuts. This is just one of many posts pointing out how much Juan’s non-scoring play style limits this team. He needs to make a massive change to his game or get out of the way so the team isn’t held back.
-
RE: Short Handed Hawks vs Cincy Game Thread
I totally get the frustrations with Juan and its nothing to do with how good he is as a person. I think we all agree on that. Its just really tough to watch him out there still playing like a freshmen when he is a senior with so much experience.
-

@TYOHawk said in Who would you keep for next year?:
Keep: Furphy, Hunter
On the fence: KJ and Elmarko

I agree with this. I think I would add McDowell to the ‘on the fence’ section though. He seems to show some flashes and wouldn’t mind keeping him around as a bench piece.
-
RE: Short Handed Hawks vs Cincy Game Thread
Hope this offseason all positions are recruited and no position is safe.

Kindof surprising. At this point I was thinking Baylor was the better job. Maybe he is just trying to leverage a raise for himself?

RE: Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this season
It might actually be preferred to be a #2 in the
Midwest (Detroit)South (Dallas) vs a #1 farther from home though. -
RE: Beat Silo Tech! Lets save this season
I disagree that they have zero chance at a one seed. The chances are very small and very unlikely but there is a scenario where it could happen. If they play like they did last night the rest of the way and win convincingly over Houston then stack a few more great wins in the Big 12 tourney, Iowa St and Houston again. They would be 3-0 against Houston, Beat Tennessee, Beat UConn, Beat Kentucky, and probably have the most Q1 wins in the country. Committee could definitely consider the KM injury to minimize some of the losses. Couple all this with bad showings from others looking to get the #1s by early losses in their tournaments, I definitely think it is not a zero chance. Though, its not much higher than zero, lol.
Any researchers out there want to look up the most losses a #1 seed has ever had? Curious to know that answer.

He won’t recruit over Dajuan at all obviously. I think you can build a great team around one of them, not both. And realistically KJ IS a center.
Personally, I wish he would recruit over DH if he had to pick one of the two.
-
RE: BYU Thread
I don’t buy the tired legs theories out there. These are young men in their primes. They only play two games per week! Come on. If this is really an issue with this team then they need a better strength and conditioning program.
-
RE: BYU Thread
@BeddieKU23 said in BYU Thread:
It is what it is.
This team isn’t going anywhere without Kev and the effort game to game this late in the season is so disappointing. Guys looked gassed after 3 days off and a week prior… BYU shoots the 3 and certainly didn’t guard them well. We continue to miss shots that should go down.
This was a team loss but Hunter let his team down last night. You can’t miss 9 free throws
A lot of this stems from poor play and leadership from the PG position. Its obvious to me and I know its not a popular opinion here, if people step back and take off their Jayhawk tinted glasses its not hard to see. There are intangibles that aren’t measured in stats but show up on how well an offense runs or how energy/effort is contagious to the rest of the team. He is a senior! Come on, have we all lowered our expectations this far to think this is acceptable play from a multiple year starter, Senior PG at Kansas??

RE: Other bball games
@DanR said in Other bball games:
I hope they ban it while the visiting team is still on the court/field. The players and coaches deserve a chance to shake hands and exit. That’s a good tradition too. If the home team wants to run out to midcourt and jump around with students after that, go for it.
And enforce the ban by forfeiting the game. Not going to hurt KU at all, LOL.
This doesn’t work. All KU has to do is send a handful of fans to every away game dressed in the other team’s clothes and if they lose those fans storm the court too fast and would just give them the win. They would never lose a game! Ha. Not saying they would do it but its not a solution that would work.
-
RE: Other bball games
Banning is rarely the answer. People get hurt all the time in life and they can all be labeled as ‘preventable’ if you ban whatever caused the injury. Its a lame and brainless approach to solving what is usually a non-problem. Nobody can prevent all injuries. I do think it is reasonable to expect the colleges to implement a better system for escorting players off of the court before allowing fans on the court.
