Just want to say i love all the discussion here and everyone brings great insight and opinions. And thank you for allowing me to share mine from time to time. Appreciate you all very much. Hopefully our hawks reload and put together another title contending team for 2023.

RE: Terrance Ferguson could still be a Jayhawk?
I highly doubt that he is reconsidering his decision to attend Alabama. I’m not quite sure why these elite recruits are still choosing these mid level schools with average coaches. I think its one of two reasons:
-
PT is more important than winning.
-
If they do care about winning, (meaning winning an NCAA championship, final 4 appearance, even a conference championship) they have been drinking too much of the cool-aid fed to them during the recruiting process. Its clear that its not going to happen… lets take an early look at last year’s examples…
Cal: After finishing 8th out of 12 last year in their league, they landed two top 10 recruits. They are currently 4-2 and on a two game losing streak yet they have not even played another ranked team.
Miss St.: After finishing 12th out of 14 in their conference last year, they landed a top 10 recruit which many claimed to be a top 5 guy. They are currently 3-3 even though they haven’t played a ranked team yet. One of those losses came against the perennial doormat of the Big12 in Texas Tech.
LSU: After finishing 3rd in their league they landed the top overall recruit and have been at the top of the hype train all offseason. Unlike the other two teams listed above, I actually think this team will make the NCAA tournament this year despite their current 3-2 record (also yet to play a ranked team) and two game losing streak.
So… lets take a look at TFerg’s Alabama choice. How are they doing so far this year?
After an early season embarrassment loss to unranked Dayton 80-48, their current 4-2 season is at a historic high right now as they have defeated two ranked teams in a row for the first time since 2006! (beat #20 Wich St, and #17 ND). Wow, almost 10 years since they have last done that. I guess these are the kinds of things one can expect to celebrate at one of these type of programs.
Of course its still early and teams can get hot late and go on a run but its rare. The early indications that I see tell me that these schools are not changing very much from previous seasons based on these star recruits joining the team.

RE: Crootin Thread III, Wherein Some Players Probably Commit to KU
@jayballer54 Try to think of it this way, there are only 13 spots on the roster (scholarship spots) and when you subtract returning players, we can really only “win” on recruiting on a handful of players each year due to that alone. Don’t let the “misses” get you down.
-
RE: Ok so lets see if new recruiting thread
Well how about that for timing, there is the first domino! Wow, that’s a big commitment that really wasn’t on the radar until Friday. Amazing.

RE: Zim makes it official.
Good, really didn’t want this guy. Not interested in the players that think they are above the program.

What's wrong with Coach Self?
Piss poor game last night, team looked terrible in many ways. The biggest question I have after letting it set in for a while is “What is wrong with Coach Self?” Forget what I saw last night, its what I didn’t see. I didn’t see Coach Self getting heated, face red, trying to light a fire under the team that played flat, no energy, putrid defense, and just went through the motions. They weren’t diving for loose balls and lost almost all of the 50/50 balls, rebounding was terrible and got out worked for them all game, and so many stupid turnovers. Where is the Coach Self that I come to know and love? So many times last night somebody would have a bonehead turnover and I’d expect Self to lay into him but nothing. I knew they were going to lose last night in the first few minutes of the second half when nothing had changed. The energy level was the same, still not competing for rebounds, still playing lax defense, I knew at that point that they would lose. I’m used to seeing the team come out with a newfound energy after halftime with everybody suspecting the paint on the walls was being peeled off by Self’s “motivational” halftime talks. But not this time. Nothing. No fire on the sideline, no fire at halftime, nothing.
What is wrong with Coach Self??

RE: KJ Adams Discussion
One of my all-time favorite Jayhawks was Kevin Young. I see a lot of similarities between the role that KY had and what KJ could be. Young managed just fine playing alongside Withey.
-
RE: BYU Thread
I don’t buy the tired legs theories out there. These are young men in their primes. They only play two games per week! Come on. If this is really an issue with this team then they need a better strength and conditioning program.

RE: Arterio Morris
Can’t recall ever hearing rape instances that happen when the girl’s friends are also in the room. I agree with some of the others, smells a little off. Its not even a he said / she said situation. Its a he said vs she plus she plus she said.
Peeps saying Self and Goff should be fired over this are nuts.

RE: Diallo a Jayhawk
No. 7 recruit commits to Kansas
Cheick Diallo told ESPN’s Paul Biancardi that he felt Kansas was the best place for him: “I can earn playing time right away. I played against Joel Embiid in high school and watched his development. I need to work on a lot of things and feel Coach Self can help my game.”

RE: just misc- - -recruits
Would be very happy to see TF commit to KU. Really love the loyal kids that know KU and know its where they want to be and don’t waste all of the coaches time dragging things out. If TF commits, the KU coaches can focus their efforts on the other recruits and building a better team for next year. You never know but it could be the difference in landing a recruit or two. Or perhaps more importantly, landing the right recruit or two for KU.

RE: Coach cal
@justanotherfan Yes its meh to me. I’m not sure what your agenda is here other than trying to get sore knees.
You said: “Someone says Cal can’t win with lower ranked guys. I post information showing that he has already done that at two other stops.” Win what? I’m not sure what you are saying. He didn’t win any championships at those schools (besides the NIT), his best season at UMASS was a Final 4 which was subsequently vacated. At Memphis his best season was a loss in the championship game but oh yeah, that season was vacated too. So take away the seasons that were vacated and his best result was the elite 8. Meh.
You said: “Someone questions if he can turn low ranked players into NBA players. I post proof that he has done that.” Actually, drgnslayr asked for evidence of him taking a 3 or 4 star player and building them into lottery picks which you subsequently posted evidence of guys getting drafted in the second round. Second round is not a lottery pick. So to my knowledge he hasn’t done that. Still meh.
You then proceed to fire off a bunch of comparisons to KU/Self which I did not mention anywhere in my response to you. My point was that I believe that many other coaches would have been able to do more with the players that Cal has started (not ended thru development) each season with. To use an analogy, if all the college coaches were in a big poker game, Cal starts each hand (aka season) with a full house. One would think he would win more times with the hand he was dealt than he actually does and I believe that many other coaches could do better than him with his starting hand. Since you seem intent on pulling KU into the discussion, I’d say Self normally starts off with a three of a kind type hand, and yes, I think he has generally underachieved lately with that too.

RE: Eligibility
@HighEliteMajor I respect your opinion but I definitely do not think that Jay Bilas is trying to destroy college basketball in the least bit. I think his intent is to improve it. The way I look at is that rules are great when they serve a purpose. The purpose for the NCAA’s rules should be to eliminate players that exploit systems to skip through high school (I.e. basketball factory) and disallow players that violate their armature status. For Diallo, most indications are that there is a hangup on an entry level type of course that isn’t NCAA approved. So for example, he could have taken a simple high school algebra course, done well, understood it, but there was something missing from the curriculum that the NCAA says its not a valid course. Now in this same hypothetical example, he could be taking college calculus right now, doing well and passing the course, but the NCAA may deny him eligibility to play NCAA sports because of this high school algebra course.
I look at the NCAA’s set of rules like a fish net. When this net has holes so big where players like Skal (who’s situation is so far in left field) get through and players like Diallo get hung up, the net is no longer serves its intended purpose and something needs to change.
-
Something Fishy
Warning: If you do not like conspiracies and/or only want to read posts based off of facts alone then please do not read any further…
Ok, this Cheick Diallo eligibility issue keeps getting more and more fishy to me and has me wondering if there is something far deeper at work here. They want to see SIXTH grade work now?!? They needed 2,000 pages of his homework turned in for review?!? This sounds ridiculous to me. Why have I never heard of any other case needing this stuff reviewed by the NCAA? I played D1 college sports and nobody ever told me to make sure I save all of my homework in case the NCAA needs to review it.
Sounds like the lawyers are going to get involved and I suspect the curtains will be drawn by the NCAA. Perhaps this could be the start of an unveiling of something deeper found within the NCAA and their staff. There have been several postings in the past few years on this board alone that have insinuated that there may be some questionable activity going on. Just off the top of my head, I recall seeing postings about Cal and how he has suspiciously recruited so successfully, how he has escaped NCAA punishment while the schools and teams he coached got the hammer instead, also UNC and their soft punishments for academic fraud, favorable calls for Duke during games, purposeful matching of specific teams in the tourney (i.e. KU vs WSU), etc etc.
We’ve seen corruption throughout history within almost every sport. There has been corruption within FIFA and cases of bribery both for position elections as well as locations of the World Cup. Corruption has been found in Boxing, cheating found in Baseball, Refs bought out in the NBA, etc. If all of these other major sports can have weak links or ways that corruption has infiltrated their ranks, wouldn’t it be reasonable to think that its possible that it could happen with the NCAA too?
Is it possible that the NCAA has a special interest for certain teams to do well and other to not?
Is it possible that shoe companies not only steer recruits to certain schools but also seek to find ways to punish those that defy their “options you can’t refuse”??
Is it possible that UK or a UK booster helped push the Skal case through by means of financial compensation? Is it possible that this same bribe was taken it a step further and has attempted to put the brakes on the Diallo review because they see KU as a top threat to a UK title?Furthermore, does anyone know why the NCAA is tax-exempt? They make over a billion dollars in revenue a year and even after deducting their “expenses” they still have tens of millions of dollars that go into their massive endowment. I guess this is a topic for a future post.

RE: A Pure Embarrassment
Good lord, I was going to come on here and go on a rant but @HighEliteMajor pretty much hit most of what I was going to say. This loss is on Self, no doubt about it. He needs to study the tape, look in the mirror, and recognize that he is not doing a good job with the talent he has. There is no reason we should have lost that game last night. His choice of players on the court and not utilizing his bench is inexcusable. Lucas cannot finish at the rim, its so disappointing to see a guy that has good size fail to improve one bit in three years. How is that possible? He must have hit his ceiling. Regardless, its killing the team to have him in the game because he cannot score, cannot defend, and leaves us playing 5 vs 4. Bragg and Mickelson should have been used way more than they were. There was a video clip where someone was interviewing Self and he said something like “we have 11 guys that think they are going to get significant minutes but the fact is that its not going to happen. We need guys to separate.” Why the hell can he not use all of his guys if they are good enough to play?!? Having a deep rotation should be a weapon. Having fresh players in the last 10 minutes of the game would win us a ton of games and more importantly, keep us from ending up in games that come down to the wire where we can lose.
What happened to the press??? Why run the press against weaker teams but not against better ones? It speeds up the game which plays into our strengths. It makes the opponent uncomfortable and gives us some occasional turnovers. When Self has these guys playing fast and keeps them fresh by consistently rotating in players, the team plays great. When the game gets tight, so does Self and that’s when we find ourselves in these close games that come down to the wire with tired players in the lineup and end up being a coinflip whether we win or lose. I.e. NCAA tournament, Conference tournament, WUG championship against Germany, etc etc.
Next rant, the halfcourt offense is TERRIBLE. I can’t think of a time that the “weave” has actually been useful. For the love of god, why can’t we run some real offense. Every once in a while we run a nice backdoor play that results in an alley-oop dunk but not yesterday. We had all returning players on the court and are desperate for a basket and they were running the same entry level weave offense that we run every year that doesn’t do anything. So much for having returning veterans and that being an advantage.
Lastly and maybe most importantly, shooting the 3 is not fools gold, its real gold. Its going to determine if we win or lose in most of our games this season. Face the facts. We suck at inside scoring. There is no excuse for not running plays for Svi and Greene. If they aren’t in the game we still have solid three point shooters and should still look for threes. We will not win games if we don’t hit threes. Self needs to embrace it and change his ‘fool’s gold’ mentality or its going to be much more agonizing season than it needs to be.

RE: What's Wrong with this Picture?
@HighEliteMajor Wow, i am kindof reluctant to post this but I’m surprised that my breakdown of what I saw is rougher than yours. I was actually thinking that Traylor was the reason why SDSU went on that run and cut the lead to just 4. Having Traylor in the game takes away a scoring threat on offense. He simply cannot score and limits the flow of offense. We end up playing 4 on 5 in the halfcourt offense. I watched time after time our team struggle to get into sync with him in the game. Couldn’t stop yelling at the TV hoping that somehow Self would hear me and sub him out. I don’t think its coincidence that our offense was running like a well oiled machine for the first half of which he did not play much at all that I can recall. Sure SDSU made some adjustments but so did we, and ours hurt us too.
To give him some credit though, I think your comment that he did well within his limitations is perfectly accurate, some big rebounds, a nice steal, and most importantly his free throw shooting. Thats the best we will see. But if Bragg is in the game instead of Mari, I really don’t think that the lead gets down to where it did, I feel very strongly about that. If a firefighter starts a fire, then saves the family inside the burning building by putting it out, is he still a hero?

RE: 12 blocks vs C5's 5
@justanotherfan Spot on. Most fans cannot see this because they see these two make a positive play here or there and use that as justification. Of course they will make a basket here or there and make a play here or there, after all, they are good enough to have made the team. The part they don’t grasp is that they create huge voids in the offense and defense and make far fewer net positive plays than any of the other three would. The key word here is their NET difference in positive plays made.
Its tough to watch KU’s offense with LL or JT on the court. So many times I’d see LL or JT set one of their “terriffic screens” up top for one of our PGs and the offense stalls because there is no threat if the screener is left alone. There is no pick and roll, no pick and pop, etc. Neither LL or JT can hit that shot at the top of the key so they can be basically ignored. All three of the other bigs can hit it. With LL or JT the play ends up as a pick, pass back to the screener, and handoff back to the guard which is not offense. When the same play is run with Ellis as the screener it is some of our best offense because he can easily hit that shot and can also step back farther and hit the three too. You’ll see Mason and Graham directing traffic late in the game to get Lucas out of the way and Ellis up top so that they can actually run an effective play.
I keep telling myself to give it up and stop venting about this topic but its hard to let it go because it seems so obvious. If the guy makes the foul shot after Lucas’ bonehead foul I think this would be a major topic of discussion today.
-
RE: Allen to Nebraska
@BShark I agree. But i think there was one more domino… I bet Self was told by Duval that he wasn’t coming to KU, then Moore had next priority, he accepted leaving no spot for Allen.
-
Man, that was FUGLY
Geez, what a terrible game last night by both sides, just sloppy, dirty, it was downright fugly. Still finding a way to win was good to see, I guess somebody had to win it. My biggest observation was that we didn’t play to our strength last night and it was by design. KU stinks in the halfcourt game. However, UK stinks even worse in the halfcourt game. It was obvious to me that Self did not want to turn it into a trackmeet and play into Kentucky’s strength. It also helped KU deal with the situation of being short on players (Preston) because a fast paced game up and down the court would have led to much more winded players.
Dok stepped up, thought he played well. Need to work on those foul shots (when tired) though.
Garrett regressed a bit, played more like a frosh.
Graham was off, this has been the knock on his game. Hopefully he can find ways to stay more consistent.
Newman didn’t have a good game but came through in clutch time with the big three and two big free throws.
Svi played decent overall yet there is still so many times I get frustrated with him out there.

RE: so looks like Covid starting to cause problems with basketball already
Good morning Bucketeers, thanks for not beating me up too bad. I’ve been following this site for a loooong time and its part of my daily ritual to check in and read about our beloved Jayhawks. Even though the responses have been mostly civil i really don’t enjoy having any disagreements with posters on here that have become some of my favorites to read each day.
At the end of the day, this whole C-19 debate comes down to each individual’s perspective and whats most important to their family. Mine is from a middle ageish person with young kids and a family circle focused in the medical field. While i could continue the back and forth about why coronaviruses are a classification of viruses considered one of the causes of the common cold, its not worth going down this hole. I hold a lot of people on this site in high regard and don’t want my perspective on the issue to be taken as though I am diminishing the significance of the pandemic.
There is always a second side of the coin. Lockdowns save lives (C19; flu; fewer car accidents) but also destroy lives (Jobs; Businesses Lost; Stunted Education, Divorces; Drugs). America being the land of the free has always let you choose what side of the coin you want to be on until recently. NFL and MLB let the players decide, several decided to opt out and keep themselves away from greater exposure potential. That was their choice and nobody should fault them for it. But now government decides for you which can be a slippery slope. You may like what side the government chose for you this time but you might not like it the next time. Once we relinquish our decision making power its tough to get it back. I mean, haven’t we all seen what happened with Skynet in The Terminator?

I believe very strongly that someone can protect themselves if they choose to.
Bullshit. You must be ignoring the many stories of people who did everything they could and caught it anyway, most of whom died (which is why these stories made the news).
Also, you refer to anyone doing everything they can to protect themselves as cowering in fear. Your freedom to do what you want stops at the point where what you are doing endangers others. Smoking is a great example. Have you managed to miss how it is being regulated to save other people from exposure?
You left out gun-related deaths. I assume you think that everyone’s freedom includes playing with guns in public, taking them into any place of business (your covid aerosols are basically bullets), and just letting anyone scared of guns cower in fear.
Do you tell flu patients to just go out as soon as they are feeling okay, and anyone scared of the flu just has to deal with it? As a doctor, your attitude toward public health is one reason we will be in this mess for way too long.
This type of response is completely uncalled for and the admins should step in. Nobody should be attacked like this for sharing their opinion. The reason why people don’t speak up is because one side of this discussion is not able to have a civil conversation and respect the other side. A non doctor preaching to a doctor about their holier than thou medical opinions, amazing.

RE: When Remy makes it back...
I’ve seen Joe sky for some rebounds lately, i mean he jumps out the roof for them. Love it. He also sprints down the floor with the ball and tries for the easy bucket. Things I love and believe make a huge difference. I’m crossing my fingers some of these behaviors become contagious.

RE: Next Year's Team Thread
So with all of this NIL money playing a factor, could we potentially see some players not take the “scholarship money” and open up that 13 cap a little bit to where someone like Cuffe could stay and develop if he really wants to and not get booted out. We’ve had it in the past where someone that is well off can pay their own way and allows someone else to take the scholarship. Just an outside the box thought as to how everyone that wants to be back can still come back.

@Texas-Hawk-10 you can see the future now? How do you know that would happen? You don’t and neither does the dumb committee. The Michigan/Iowa game was eerily similar to the FSU/Louisville game watching both. FSU’s defense is better than any of the teams in the playoff.

Late Night - Sept. 30th
I’ve put together a list of 2018 recruits coming for Late Night in the Phog on Sept. 30th, thought it would be nice to have it all in one place. Its always a huge recruiting weekend for KU and I expect that we will land at least one of them if not on the visit but very soon after. Here’s the list I have:
#2 Zion Williamson (SF)
#18 Quentin Grimes (PG)- At Kentucky this weekend, rescheduled KU for Oct. 13th weekend#42 David McCormack (C ) - Committed to KU
#50 Jalen Carey (PG)#60 Zion Griffin (PF)- Signed with ISUAnybody else I’m missing?

Brandon Ingram Decision
Per Paul Biancardi twitter “Just spoke with Espn # 12 Brandon Ingram he has home visits with #NCState (Mon) , #Duke (Tues ) #UNC (Wed) and plans to decide on April 27”

Hypothetically if Morris is cleared of all charges, would anyone be OK with him staying? Doubt we ever get that level of clarity with this situation, but even if we did I’m having a hard time coming up with a scenario where I wouldn’t want KU just to be done with him. This is your second chance, so it is your responsibility to make sure you dont put yourself in these situations. Plus him tweeting what he did after the news broke goes to show he doesn’t understand the severtity of the situation.
Just to make sure I understand correctly, if Morris is cleared of wrongdoing, people still want him kicked off the team because why? Because he allowed himself to be targeted for a false accusation? How does one prevent others from scheming against you and making a false accusation? “I’m sorry Arerio, but since someone lied about you now we must remove you from our team.”
Edit: Come to think of it, if we start removing players based on false accusations, whats to stop a bunch of KState fans or Texas fans from falsly accusing each of our players one by one until we’ve kicked everyone off the team? lol

RE: Whiff City
I hope Dotson will look at his college choice as a business decision. One program is way more likely than the other to be always be in the national spotlight, likely being ranked top 5 most of the year, conference champions, consideration for #1 seed, poised for a final 4 run, etc. And with all of that comes mega publicity. Being the quarterback of that team puts him front and center of that spotlight. When you are basically auditioning yourself to get a job at the next level, you should want to be on the big stage.
-
RE: Brandon Ingram Decision
So i’m doing a little reading between the lines here but I think Ingram told K in his first in-home visit that his team was looking a bit thin, especially at point, and was his reason for not committing there. K says let me see what I can do and lets meet again before you decide. Then K convinces a HS junior PG to reclassify and join the team and is hoping that will fix the problem.
What scares me is that Ingram said in the special on ESPNU tonight that the move does make a big difference. But for real, how often does a true freshmen run a team well at PG? Its very rare. Now Duke thinks they will have what should be a HS-senior running their team? Lol, come on man. I’m hoping he is smart enough to see how desperate of a move this is. Would he rather go to Duke where they have a HS-senior running their team or KU where they have an experienced collegiate Junior running the point?
Crossing my fingers and hoping Ingram doesn’t fall victim to the smoke and mirror show by K. Him and Cheick would make KU a definite championship contender next year if they commit.
-
RE: Whiff City
Here’s my tidbits for the day:
Dotson: Seems like Florida is out with all of the other PG type players set to commit there in the near future. The Maryland insider on 247 has changed his CB pick to foggy. According to Dotson’s family, his MD visit was “good.” It just feels to me that there is a hangup with Dotson over committing to KU and maybe @BShark is correct that it is a PT concern over Grimes. There was also that note earlier that Self didn’t win over the family on the visit, maybe there is some truth to that. Dunno but it sure feels like he is hunting for another option. Problem is, each of these places are going to feel like a major settling when you stack them up to the facilities and tradition at KU.
My opinion, Dotson should be the one to take control of the situation and just commit. There is no doubt he will play a ton of minutes from day 1 even if Grimes goes there too. Don’t shy away from the competition if that is the holdup, embrace it. I personally think if they both come that they will both play 30+ minutes a game. Dotson is a taylor made guard for the KU system, even if Grimes is the better pro prospect, I can’t see Dotson not playing as many minutes as he can handle. I’ve watched a lot of KU basketball over the years and Dotson would be a superstar for the jayhawks.
On a site note, I actually think Grimes is going to end up at Kentucky anyway. Just a gut feeling.
Romeo Langford: Saw a note on twitter from a guy that overheard some coaches talking and the inside sources are saying that he is Kansas bound and will wait until the season is over to do his commitment.
Jermaine Harris: PF ranked about #80 or so in the composite was supposed to visit KU this coming weekend but it sounds like he is making his announcement this Friday. Haven’t seen the official cancellation of his visit yet but if the announcement is definitely Friday then it isn’t going to be KU. It might end up being West Va though.
-
RE: Pessimism or Reality?
@DoubleDD I agree about Bragg, I think he is going to quickly become a fan favorite at KU. Really glad we have him as a part of the team.
My fingers are starting to hurt, they’ve been crossed for a long time waiting for Diallo’s decision. With him, the team goes to the next level. Without him, it will be tougher but not impossible. I like what I see from Tevin Mack and supposedly there is strong mutual interest. He won’t fill the void down low but would be a solid player here for multiple years if we were to land him.
I fully expect Self will fill all of his scholarships this year. In a perfect world it would be Diallo, Brown or Mack, and someone else out of the woodwork, maybe a developmental footer transfer (Withey type) or high energy guy (K-Yo) that may have to sit a year but could still be a big contributor down the road. I think once all of the top recruits are committed a few other guys will pop up on the market that we haven’t heard of yet. It has a tendency to happen like that. Well… I’m still drinking the Kool-Aid here, hope you all are too!

RE: Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class
I give it a 9. If we get Chukwu its a 10. I view Diallo as the best player in the class and getting him was huge not only for his defensive skills and overall energy which the team needs but should also help open up Ellis to have a big year too. Beyond Diallo, we didn’t necessarily get the best players persay, but we can’t do much better for a class specifically selected for Kansas. KU needs multi-year guys, especially with 3 seniors this year. Bragg is one of the best multi-year prospects in the class. Vick seems to be blossoming and Colby fits the mold for a solid KU big man and we should have each for several years.
The reason I say its a 10 if we get Chukwu is because not only is he a multi-year guy, and 7’-2" tall which are both great things for KU, but we’d be adding him to the class without a scholarship. That’s incredible. If Self pulls that off, its a 10 in my book.

RE: Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class
@HighEliteMajor Oh mercy, I sure hope you are wrong. I could see it happening but part of me thinks Self is starting to learn a little bit that he needs to get his best horses out there sooner and let them take their lumps early in the season. If he could find a way to speed up that learning curve for his studs he would in theory be able to get more out of them when it matters most at the end of the season.
It just seemed odd last year that when the newspapers and espn articles started writing a lot about Oubre’s lack of playing time that suddenly the “light” came on for him and his minutes went way up. It felt like more than a coincidence. The big time recruits will hesitate to come to KU if they think they will be buried on the bench for half the year. Actually, Diallo made it clear that he would choose a school with his biggest deciding factor being pt. The comments made me think he was st. john’s bound. At that time the recruiting class was looking dire and its possible Self gave him some sort of an informal guarantee because Diallo still chose KU knowing what the historical trend has been for others similarly ranked to him (Embiid, Cliff, Oubre).

RE: Recruits of 2016
Its awesome when a recruit is unwavering towards KU. Its even better when they commit early too. It seems I become bigger fans of guys that visit and know this is where they want to be. Then cancel the rest of their visits and sign on the line. Oubre and Embiid are a few that did it that I can recall.
