I’d take Pitino in a heartbeat, but I think he is also on the cusp of retirement. Easily one of the most underrated coaches of his time. I feel like he is seldom talked about. I 100% like the Will Wade idea, him getting in trouble at LSU was for paying players obviously something Bill has already been busted for here. Not to mention it’s perfectly legal now

RE: Wait, KU is playing?
I just hate how he get pulled after one mistake and we go back Bill playing favorites. Some guys can get away with some pretty silly plays as long as they are Bills pets. The more he dies that and the more Flory sits on the bench, the less recruits will be interesting unless they are already on draft board. Remember how Self rode freshman Grimes coat tails for 30 minutes a game tho he stank up the place more often than not. Feel like their needs to a happy medium

RE: Wait, KU is playing?
Like I said at this point we have to celebrate every win we can get even if it is against a team that won’t even sniff the NIT. Until we get different players and shake up our staff. So Ya!!! Got the W
-
RE: Wait, KU is playing?
@approxinfinity they are definitely in full blown rebuild mode, hope they give him a few years
-
RE: Wait, KU is playing?
This is a really weird game I feel lucky we are still winning
-
RE: Wait, KU is playing?
Pretty slow start here but that’s okay, I’m just gonna enjoy every win we get with this group moving forward
-
RE: So who is more unhappy fan base -- KU U Conn ?
Idc if we win the tile every year, don’t know a single fan that expects that. What do expect is a team competitive enough to win our own conference and given the right rid have an opportunity to make it to the final four every few years.

RE: 2024 NFL Season
@mayjay as many great teams self has lost in the tournament I think it’s astonishing the amount of fans that just want to hang a banner for that year. You also act like 2019 didn’t exist. We can go back and fourth all day
-
RE: So who is more unhappy fan base -- KU U Conn ?
@SlimShaddy54 It’s debatable as to whom has the better roster but shouldn’t be with KU getting the #1 portal guy and having the most experienced roster in CBB. UConn just won back to back natties, I wouldn’t be mad at all if I was a fan of theirs. Make the NCAAs and it’s a successful year with the turnover that they have had. Kinda like the chiefs coming up short on the 3 peat. No team has came anywhere near this close in the Super Bowl era of doing very tough to be too disappointed after winning back to back super bowls.

RE: 2024 NFL Season
@mayjay I think the NCAA tournament is the hardest title to win in all of sports but the NIL ordeal makes the two closer than they ever have been. If you want better guys you can go buy them without have to worry about a salary cap in a sense. But saying that Self has had the same recent success as Reid just isn’t factual by any stretch of imagination.

RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@Texas-Hawk-10 at times both have worked for this team. I’m not sure which is the correct for going further in March at this point in time
-
RE: Fair Weather Fan
@nuleafjhawk I get closer everyday watching this team to doing the same. Twice this season I haven’t even watched a game. Even when I was playing and coaching usually my older brother was able to record the games for me on VHS to watch later. He had cable at his house so that helped a lot once I got to highschool. The Bill Self coaches show used to be on Sunday night on JTV and I never missed a single one in those days. Now it’s like I know before we hit the floor we ain’t gonna play hard so why should I waste my time?
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@wissox for sure it was a little harsh which I know I am at times especially with @Texas-Hawk-10 but he’s truly on of my favorite people to go back and forth with and would enjoy having a beer with most of posters on here.

RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@FarmerJayhawk not a bad idea we have to do something different obviously. As much as I’ve stuck up for Self and enjoyed his time here. This is a new age, we can’t go out there and do the same thing as the past 20 years and be successful. Like I said on another thread losing at home to average teams, getting blown out on the road and going home first weekend of The NCAAs. That’s not Kansas Basketball unless we keep down the same path. Stat people I’m curious how many home games we have lost the last 5 or 6 years think it’s now over half Selfs 20 home losses. God AFH used to be the most feared gym on planet now it’s just another court to shoot on smh sad sad reality.
-
RE: 2024 NFL Season
@mayjay has Bill Self made the Final Four or NC game 5 of the last 7 years? He lost in the first weekend 5 of 7 years when we do this year. Seems like a pretty baseless argument to logically thinking folks. If Andy loses in the wildcard round 5 of the next 7 years. Plenty of the kingdom will be saying Andy it’s time to hang it up.

RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@Texas-Hawk-10 all valid points for sure and yes I agree whomever is doing our scouting/recruiting is absolutely terrible at their job. One thing that continues to drive me insane is with our depth, why don’t we push the ball more? Basketball 101 easiest way to score is to beat the others teams defense down the floor. Remember when we used to be deadly in the open floor and teams were scared of us running. Now Juan for some reason just lazily walks the ball up the floor 99.9% of the time. When we push he ain’t doing it.

@SlimShaddy54 said in Oh how I hate Kansas State.:
Dang , little surprised after losing to the kittens we only dropped ONE spot in the AP - -dropped THREE in the Coach’s , - went from 16/17th in Ap-- surprises me a bit, thought we would probably be like 23rd.-- -U Conn dropped out of AP- - & like 24th in the Coach’s
We aren’t a Top 25 team IMO

Veach needs to fix that Oline this offseason or it’ll be more of the same. Playing a guard at Tackle is a crappy spot to be in and was the direct cause of one of the interceptions. Just an ugly game by the left side of the line in particular.
Now about the bright future - that 50 yard TD bomb to Worthy has been all season in the works. I’m glad it finally started clicking late. Add in Rice (after his suspension) and the two young receivers look fantastic!
That’s probably my biggest complaint with Veach, it was a problem last season and it got completely ignored in the offseason.

We are headed down that road currently, next year is one of the biggest seasons in KU BB history IMO.

RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@BeddieKU23 I think there isn’t one single problem with this bunch. Most of the issues the blame falls on Bills shoulders IMO. To walk up to a press conference after you just got taken to the wood shed by Gonzaga and say you were thinking about next years team, building it and how it would be different. Basically in old school terms his mouth wrote a check his ass couldn’t cash. He hand picked these guys and they cohesively suck donkey ass. We all knew AJ was a problem with effort and staying engaged @wissox said it all year last year as a Wisconsin fan. We all knew Zeke couldn’t play defense to save his life. We all knew Hunter doesn’t play defense and KJ isn’t a guy you want starting and playing 30 plus minutes on a good basketball team. We all knew Juan isn’t aggressive enough and doesn’t have any leadership skills. It’s definitely on the players as well but they did get asked to come here. I think this team need a vocal leader as I’ve said many times the best teams I’ve played on and coach had very vocal guys that held each other highly accountable.

RE: HIRE TANG!!
I got a laugh outta this but at the same time if we meet KSU again in the B12 tournament Tang will be Selfs daddy with 4-3 record against him.
-
RE: Super Bowl
@AsadZ Taylor is getting paid way too much money to be doing the piss poor job he has.
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@FarmerJayhawk people were devastated when Roy left and I was definitely one of them. Only complaints I have of Roy is not recruiting East of the Mississippi and not winning the big game. Self had more first round exits that Roy in year two here and his winning percentage in round two is much worse than Roy’s.
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@FarmerJayhawk realistically Bill Self will be here for as long as he wants to be for many reasons. I just hope he leaves when the time is right for everyone and if we continue down our current path I hope it’s sooner rather than later. The last 2 years haven’t been fun and it’s hardly been the Kansas basketball we have grown to love under Roy and Bill. It’s sad but a very factual statement. I don’t look forward to the games anymore for the first time in my life.

RE: Super Bowl
@rockchalkjayhawk ya Mahomes was sacked more this season than any other and you could almost add up his sacks from his first 3 as starter to equal this seasons. I wish I could remember who the fool was telling me in week 10 the chiefs had the best offensive line in the NFL on this site but I’ll be nice.
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@Kcmatt7 I’m not necessarily saying firing him right now but his seat should start getting warm if next season is similar to these two. If he wins 7 games next year do you still say we can’t fire him he’s the best we’ve had? Time is undefeated on everyone my friend. Its the Lavar Ball Neva lost of life man
-
RE: Super Bowl
Thinking positively we don’t have to hear all off season again about how the NFL is rigged for Kansas City
-
RE: Super Bowl
Well we knew the offensive line was a problem, it has been much of the year. Not sure I expected the Eagles line to dominate like they did on both sides of the ball. We have to be able to generate pressure only rushing 4 somewhere around 4 seconds. Hurts isn’t known as a great passer but giving him 6 or 7 seconds proved to be detrimental. I hope we can beef up a little on the front lines and keep this group mostly intact
-
RE: Super Bowl
@rockchalkjayhawk thought the same thing, I thought we should’ve came out running and tried to control the clock. I think we started with 15 passes in the first 17 play calls. I also thought we took away our own short passing game by running deep routes to often.
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@Kcmatt7 I’m not going to go back and forth here, as I said you will never even come remotely close to convincing me. Bill Self is a prime example of my argument, I’ve never seen more KU fans calling for change before this season started. It’s all over X and Facebook nearly every game. Very few coaches retire on good terms look at Florida states basketball coach Hambelton this year and Jim however the heck you spell his name at Miami this season. Two beloved coaches just a few short years ago.
-
RE: If Bill’s roster falls apart…
@Kcmatt7 playing 2 and 3 big men against teams with stretch 4s. Playing experience over talent this entire year. Bill Belichick is another prime example of dying a hero or living to become the villain. That’s pretty much how coaching and professional sports are buddy. You never ever even remotely convince me of other wise see examples almost every year.

RE: Super Bowl
At some point I’m wondering if Mahomes needs to be pulled before he is seriously injured
-
RE: Super Bowl
Sadly if you told me we handle Barkley like this, I’d thought we’d have a chance. I figured this one would be high scoring, I bet the over of 45 points so I’m in good shape on that at least

Like I said earlier this season it doesn’t matter the coach or the sport eventually time catches up and their philosophy don’t work anymore to most coaches unless you retire after a good season. It happen to Dean Smith, Bobby knight, Tom Landry and Hank Stram. It’s the ole Batman line either you die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
Dean Smith made a FF his final year coaching! And was only 4 years removed from his 2nd Natty Lmao.
So did K! Who missed the tourney at least once I can remember with Duke. But the game didn’t pass him by.
Izzo has had ups and downs and has a team who could definitely make a FF run this season.
What philosophy does Self have that is causing the game to pass him by?
I didn’t say Coach K anywhere in my post and a lot of people were mad a Smith for only winning 2 titles with the guys he had. What about the others I listed?

RE: Super Bowl
Offense showed up finally just waited til it was as 34-0

Kinda frustrated that Reid hasn’t changed up the line and at least gave Humpries a try

RE: Super Bowl
Sadly if the offense had kneeled and punted the whole half. The chiefs would still have a chance and likely only be down 10-0
-
RE: Super Bowl
Big boy football is won or lost in the trenches, you can get pressure with 4 and the other side has to send 2 or 3 to touch you, not a good combo. On the plus side Reid and Kelce prob don’t retire lol

RE: Super Bowl
@nuleafjhawk couple of weak ass penalties that would set the internet on fire if they were reversed
