It needs some work, but the potential is there on both ends. The biggest thing defensively is that Flory and Hunt cannot camp in the lane at the same time so if there’s a stretch 4 on the floor that’s an issue. I pointed this out in the Mich St game how it was an issue, KU just got lucky the stretch 4 missed all his 3’s. On offense, just about every possession I can recall has ended up with a Hunt/Flory dunk. Hunt’s passing ability if he’s in the high/low action has been deadly so far.

Assume they are working the logistics of this possibility.

RE: UNCW Game Thread
Yup self said he will rest a few days and then get back to it

RE: UNCW Game Thread
Did not come back from halftime warmups. Praying it’s just a tweak or sprain

RE: UNCW Game Thread
Shooting 50% but no doubt we are missing a lot of shots they are capable of hitting.

RE: UNCW Game Thread
Just gotta make more shots. They are definitely a decent team but we are making them look great by not taking care of business on offense. No rhythm it seems tonight

RE: KJ Rebounding
I think there’s something to the fact that KJ is an exceptional two feet leaper which is why you see just about all his dunks where he’s had time to gather and power up. Perhaps that same concept applies to when he’s rebounding and loses some of that athletic advantage since boarding is not just how high you can jump but other things like instinct and want to. I seem to remember as a freshman KJ crashed the boards hard on offense and was a part of some key tip outs/boards at critical times. Those hustle plays and playing defense were a big part of why he saw the floor at end of game situations etc.

RE: KJ Rebounding
Absolutely agree, we all love KJ. He’s made improvements in a lot of areas in his career and became a critical starter for Bill the last 3 years. We know what he’s going to give us. Seeing him smile and the way he responds to questions after the game on Saturday, hard not to root for him. His Sr day with Juan is going to be a tearful one.

Not used to having guys outside of Harris that know what they are doing with the ball. Mayo being a legit playmaker and not just shooting the ball has been a real pleasant surprise. His film showed this but seeing him doing it against everyone so far has given me a lot of confidence in our playmaking ability. Harris was responsible for it all last yr and now we have at least 2 guys that are really skilled at getting guys good shots

RE: KJ Rebounding
Yeah it’s bizarre. Coming out of high school there was videos of him training with older dudes and he was hitting 3’s. It just doesn’t seem to be natural for him to shoot outside the paint. His free throw form is the best it’s been in his 4 yrs here and hopefully he’s a guy that can make high 60’s, low 70’s this year. At this point that’s where my focus is on with his shooting, make your free ones at a good enough clip and we will be fine. We have enough guys to stretch the defense

RE: Oakland Game Thread
Good looks right on target. No worries. He’s so important to this team

RE: Oakland Game Thread
Disagree he’s playing too many. Play your depth, injuries happen, if you can minimize the risk of injury with some of the guys right now for the long haul you do it. Injuries and guys getting worn down from too many minutes is a real thing that has happened to Hunt, Juan and KJ. We have 10 that belong, figure it out

RE: Oakland Game Thread
Not a lot of these kinda games left on the schedule where we can play 10-11. Enjoying

RE: Oakland Game Thread
Storr is a lot like Terrance Shannon. Another year from now he might be a complete stud

RE: Oakland Game Thread
Mayo has such a high IQ for the game. His pump fakes and hesitations are a beauty to watch and it’s always in control and has this smoothness. Plays like that are high level

Espn I guess doesn’t show the score anymore. Amateur Hour

RE: Oakland Game Thread
I mean Flory didn’t even stay close to him to stop the catch so

@BeddieKU23 If Storr is on the team next year I will eat a shoe
Same but we can hope some factors make a difference if he doesn’t have the season expected. He’s not even a starter here. There’s no NBA team that’s coming for that

@Texas-Hawk-10 Nice summary. Storr has played for 7 teams now in 7 years so a transfer is highly likely. Imagine if the kid just settled for one place how much better he’d be.
I think our NIL makes a difference here. Also Self. If he isn’t going to stick around to be the best player he can be under Self he likely isn’t headed for a serious professional career. This is where he needs to be to get where he wants to go. We all see the flashes in him but he’s still not there to being a finished product. I’m very surprised he isn’t a starter given the NIL we gave him. Hopefully he’s open to a 2nd year
