Chiefs are world champs

I have one question and that is , AFTER KC went up 24-20. San Francisco comes out and literally runs out of downs and KC takes over - -BALL GAME at that point KC had the Ball , under two minutes to play and up 24-20
Question is why did they continue to run plays instead of going into Victory formation and run the Clock out. - takes like 30 seconds for a play - -take the knee run it out.
It was on this series Williams scored on the TD run. With them continuing to run regular plays , looks like you taking a risk of like Williams fumbling the ball or something like that San Fran get it back and still have a chance to score. - Take a knee
-
@jayballer73 the 49ers had all 3 timeouts at that point so you would’ve taken 3 knees and punted with like 10 seconds run off the clock.
-
Williams had more than three big plays. He earned every yard, especially in the first half when Mahomes couldn’t throw straight. Big 2nd down run on the first touchdown drive. Got first down on an option pitch on the field goal second drive. Catch and run for first down at end of first half. Catch and run for a first down start of the 4th quarter. Killer blocks on a couple big pass plays. TD catch and stretch. Backbreaker TD run with 1:18 left.
I have no prob with Mahomes MVP, but Williams was a close second.
I actually think he probably should have been MVP.
-
@DanR I think Williams was solid but if you take away the 15 yard run in quarter one, the 38 yard TD run in 4th and the TD catch. He had a very pedestrian game statically. Even with those plays it wasn’t spectacular. Obviously those plays do count and he had some tough yards for sure. I’d say he got ate up more often than not in pass protection. Other than about 4 plays Mahomes was under pressure. It was a total team win, with the defense getting key stops, offense clicking when it had to and good special teams coverage all night.
-
Williams is the kind of RB you want with a coach like Andy and a QB like Pat especially. It’s dumb to overpay the position.
-
@BShark They have Williams under contract for a couple more years or I’d say draft a running back. That’s the best value, a running back on his rookie deal before he gets worn out and over paid.

@Crimsonorblue22 Jordan is great, we chat. She was so nervous like all of us.
Huge KU fan too.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 They have a very weird obsession with us.

Rent free is the right title. KU definitely occupies some KSU head space (as if they have any to spare) lol

@Crimsonorblue22 the spoons were hot in that town.

This made me giggle. A lot. A 2017 draft review for Patrick Mahomes.
USA Today (didn’t see the point of giving the schmuck’s name…) gave the Chiefs a C-minus for picking Mahomes. He wrote: “Calling Mahomes a project is a major understatement. He’s nowhere near ready to play in the NFL. And, honestly, he may never be. Between his inconsistent accuracy due to poor mechanics, his tendency to bail from clean pockets and his lack of field vision, he’s going to leave as many big plays on the field as he creates. This was a risky pick.”
-
@nuleafjhawk people worry too much about mechanics. Same in basketball, Larry Birds form wasn’t the greatest but man he made a ton shots with it lol.
-
-
@BShark Marty put the chiefs back on the map IMO just couldn’t quite finish the deal.
-
@kjayhawks yeah. That pic is a bit more personal for me because you can see he isn’t all there. Reminds me of my step dad before he passed.

I hear a couple guys named Tom and Bill are the primary suspects.
-
Watching the parade and rally live on ESPN2.
I remember seeing the last one in person, standing near 10th & Main as the motorcade passed by. Great memory, great feeling.

@BShark ️

49ers fans are still big mad
-
@nuleafjhawk The Bears brilliant front office talent evaluators must have read that article and said naw, let’s pick Trubisky instead. At least we didn’t have to waste any nervous energy on a playoff run this year.

Just received my Super Bowl victory edition of the February 3 KC Star!
Fun to read, although “King Them” seems like a weird headline.
Item of note: Inside Section 1, there is an article about the first death outside of China from the coronavirus.
-
@mayjay from where?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 I ordered it from the Star website a day or two after the game. Also ordered a coffee cup with a front page repro to match the one I have from the 1970 SB!
-
@mayjay I meant where was the death from?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Sorry! I think that was the guy from China who went to the Phillipines and died there. I didn’t read it closely yet 'cuz I was reading the Chiefs stuff.
Amazing to think wistfully of merely 7 weeks ago as “a different time”…
-
They’re showing the Chiefs-Rams 2018 Monday night game this evening on ESPN.
A real heart-wrencher, but an epic game nonetheless.
-
How many fans have watched the super bowl game again during this horrible time of no sports? Mahomes really didn’t have a great game. The 40 yard pass to Hill that started the 3 touchdown comeback was so late that Hill had to wait on it. If you haven’t watched it again, I found the full game on You Tube. It’s crazy how late in the game the Chiefs scored their 3 final TD’s. If you haven’t watched it again in the last 24 hours, just watch the last 7 minutes to get your sports fix for the day. Yes, I’m desperate for anything sports related this summer. The next season of Last Chance U is supposed to air on Netflix on July 28, with the new season of QB 1 starting in August.
-
@stoptheflop thanks for the ideas for sports programming. I’ll check it out!
-
@stoptheflop I know what you mean! I watched it again about 6 weeks ago and I was like “crap - there’s no way we win this game”. The last 6 or 7 minutes was truly unbelievable.
-
Having Mahomes means there’s never a “there’s no way we can win this game” moment.
-
20 of 22 starters coming back. Added a RB and a LB.
Looking good

I was so close to actually turning it off. Glad I didn’t.

I was at my parents for the Texans game and I almost just went home because I was having to be polite when I just wanted to scream
-
@BShark that would be comparable to giving up on the Jayhawks!🥰

I still think the linebacker corps and offensive line are suspect. Hopefully they can make a run again, no telling how long Sammy, Travis and Tyrek stay in KC.
-
@kjayhawks no one hides a suspect oline like Andy Reid. Mahomes is decent as well.

Watkins is probably gone after this year because it is the last year of his contract. He can probably get more on the open market.
Hill is signed until 2023, so he’s locked in for the next three seasons.
Kelce is signed through 2022.
Hardman is on his rookie deal. Edwards Helaire is on a rookie deal.
Simply put, the Chiefs are actually pretty well positioned right now with most of their big time guys (Mahomes, Hill, Kelce, Mathieu, Jones, Clark) signed for multiple years and a decent group of young players like Hardman, Thornhill, etc.
-
@justanotherfan right, I think if they want to win more titles, it will come in the next 3 seasons. Guys these days hold out a lot more and ask for trades more often. I hope they can be the next patriots but it will be much harder playing in a decent division.

It’s tough to project anything more than 2-3 seasons out anyway. Three years ago Andrew Luck was supposed to be turning into a top QB in the AFC for years to come.
The Chiefs are well positioned to compete in each of the next several seasons. They will have to reload, but if they do, they can compete for another 3-4 year cycle. Rinse, repeat.
-
@justanotherfan yep, the packers and Seahawks were both supposed to be the next dynasty but neither could do so.
