That’s why this year is important on so many levels (especially with the elephant still looming over our head)
-
@BeddieKU23 the only reason I could really see Cuffe transferring is if he doesn’t want to have 2 full years not really playing at all. Though I think he would have to take a step down to see pt, coaches will sell him on playing even if he wouldn’t.
-
Starting lineup next year (what I think will be, not what I necessarily want)? I’ll go with Zach at the 5 (muscle up, get a haircut to keep it out of your eyes), the rest hinges on Rice. If he’s here, start him at the three with Braun an undersized 4 Yesufu at the point and Dick at the 2.
2nd 5 - Udeh, Martin, Zuby and Adams (I think he’ll work on his ballhandling/shooting skills), Harris and or Pettiford.
The whole makeup of the team depends on three things. Will Braun be back and will Rice be on campus? And, ofcourse, who else do we get via the transfer portal?
-
Yeah and he’s from the East Coast so distance from home can become a factor after you don’t play for a year etc. I’ve said in the past the redshirt year does nothing to keep him here after this season now with the rules the way they are.
I’m absolutely pulling for Kyle to stick around so we can see what his defense and elite athleticism can do on the court.
I think with Self losing 6-8 kids he’s going to push hard to keep all the freshman happy. You can’t go into next year with just a few kids that know what they are doing.
-
@BeddieKU23 yeah he is an EJ level athlete just no skills right now.
-
I just don’t see Yesufu really cracking the rotation for big minutes next year either. This is his 3rd season in D1 CBB and he’s getting beat for minutes by Pettiford. Harris has more eligibility left than Yesufu too. There is no way for Yesufu to start at KU the way it looks today.
Why would he stay?
-
@Kcmatt7 he’s got 2 years left after this season.

Idk, he’d be in the rotation of 3 guys for 2 spots most likely. He’s already better albeit slightly offensively than Harris and I think his defense will really get there.

Agree.
-
Yesufu has two years of eligibility left after this season, right? Two things that we need to snag from the transfer portal, a one year interchangeable big and an outside shooter.
-
Yesufu after this year is 3x2 since he hasn’t used his redshirt year yet. But I don’t think he’s going anywhere. If it’s me, I’m going Pettiford Yesufu Braun Rice Udeh/Clemence. I don’t think Gradey will be quite ready to guard at KU level yet. Yesufu is almost there now.

Yeah I like Gradey but in my scenario he is a bench piece. I’d rather start Bobby and Yesufu but Bill.

I’d be alright with that lineup too
-
@BShark Dude barely even saw 10 minutes against UTEP when we were up by 20+ basically the entire game AND Pettiford was out. Just not sure how he ever really gets into the rotation for 20+ minutes. If he doesn’t get more run by the end of the year I don’t know why he would stay when he could probably get 25+ minutes at two dozen P5 schools…
They helped Grimes get a waiver, I’m sure they would do the same for another guy.
-
@Kcmatt7 I’m wondering how he wouldn’t get minutes next year. A year in the system and Remy’s minutes become available. If we are looking at 80 minutes between Harris/Bobby/Yesufu I think he would get 20+. Of course if the staff were to add another guard all bets are off. And they might look into it because scoring would be an issue with that group.
ETA: Och’s minutes become available too. A lot of PT to grab next year.
-
PT is there next year.
I’m not concerned about Yesufu as he’s yet to get any consistent minutes off the bench. He became really good last year when he got comfortable with the ball in his hands and had to make plays. At KU right now his role is the polar opposite and he’s learning what Self wants out of him. Unless his role changes where he can get consistent minutes I expect to see this up and down season from him. Self is not giving him any real chance to prove himself.
-
I get your thinking here with Yesufu. I think its still early to write him off though. My expectations for him coming in were high so I’ve been disappointed in his role so far. But I also haven’t found anything to be discouraged at either because he’s not getting opportunity.
-
@BShark If Rice comes and Braun stays you really only have 30 minutes from the bench. Bobby & Grady are going to eat up a good chunk of those minutes.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m not worried about him being good or not. I’m just saying that unless he jumps someone (mainly Bobby) he isn’t going to ever get the opportunity to prove himself here. So I don’t know why he would stay.
-
These things have a way of working out. I see him squarely in the mix for 20+ minutes a game next year. Whether its a starting role or not I don’t see him going anywhere especially since he’d have to sit a year if he left. Obv. kids get waivers but its hard to imagine him getting one currently. Also with the way this roster is shaping up for next season Self is going to want a veteran guard with experience in his system. This roster is going to be so young next season

I think Bill would still want to start two small guards. Rice is closer to a 4 than a 2 is what I heard.
-
Duke lands Mark Mitchell to go along with the 2 centers and sf that they already have coming in.

Bingo. I’m pretty sure we’re gonna roll out 2 guards, 2 wings, and a big.

We got the best wing at Sunrise don’t @ me Duke fans.

So is K still recruiting or is this all Scheyer?

So much for my thinking that their recruiting would take a hit once K left huh?

It’s Duke recruiting.

Stil think they may take a hit buddy, just not this year. K still there right now and even though he said he was backing off , I promise you he has that rat face right in there selling the program for next years class. Wanna see in 2-3 years see how things go then AFTER he is no longer sitting his ass on that bench
-
“rat face” Why don’t you post your picture here so we can comment on your face!

New offer
Well, if he does end up signing, hopefully he will have learned how to spell Kansas correctly by then…
-
Can’t take that offer seriously. Not an impact player

No KU offer…YET.

Bobi Klintman back on the market, after the coaching change at Maryland.

I’d be interested if MJ Rice bolts. I think that’s about where the staff was at too.
-
Why all the MJ rice commitment won’t stick talk. Have there been a ton of rumors?
-
The people involved with him have had a lot of guys that skipped college. I haven’t heard new information on him in quite awhile though, so I’m sticking to what I was told months ago.
-
Gotcha, sounds good. I do feel like with the new climate, with NiL. Losing a kid to the g league is avoidable. It would be very frustrating if we can’t keep 1 fringe top 20 kid but duke and UK will have 3-5 5star kids stay committed. Many of the duke guys are top ten players and would get larger deals in the g league and overseas then mj rice would…. Thanks for the update
-
KU needs to improve their NIL game. Will be something to monitor.
-
NIL game for KU just isn’t where it needs to be or where it should be currently.
Rice is a we’ll believe it when he shows on campus type. Figure the spring will heat up talk regarding him

So I have not read a thing about other schools and what kinda NIL deals players can get. Anybody know what KU guys may be missing out on?

Rice is gonna be at Kansas nowere eles

All I know is that remy got a car and Jared Casey got Applebee’s gift cards.
-
Sounds like he’s having a really good year!
Dick, a four-star Kansas signee, is a skilled, sizey and versatile wing. He’s made a jump in his development over the last eight months and could make a jump in the rankings because of it.
He’s playing with confidence, unphased whether shots are falling or not and has found other ways to impact the game regardless. His defense, rebounding, basketball IQ, athleticism and his experience playing at the highest levels of high school basketball is paying off for one of the top teams in the country.
-
@BeddieKU23 Should be a 5* but it doesn’t matter. Love this class.
-
He’s definitely a 5 star talent & I think his upside to the next levels is there to support the rank. He’s my favorite in this class which is saying something because the other 3 are studs too. I just think this kid has it all.
