Should make Zeke’s decision easier I hope
There hasn’t been a ton out there on him other than visit fluff pieces. He was tagged in this: https://247sports.com/college/arizona/Board/105393/Contents/Basketball-Authority-Report-Williams-transitioning-well-123801082/
But I am VIP and can’t read it.
Here you go my friend
Nnaji visited UCLA this past weekend and will be at Baylor this weekend followed by a visit to Purdue. We’re still of the belief that Arizona is legitimately in this one and the coaches are pursuing Nnaji with the belief that the Wildcats could land him. Each school has its draw to Nnaji and Kansas is the main competition, but Arizona is not out of this one by any means.
Okay so generic fluff just like every other article on him lately. Looks like we just have to wait and see.
Yes nothing earth-shattering. Their insider doesn’t know much, he’s speculating they are one of the favorites here. That could be the case based on their expected frontcourt next year and the recruiting class Miller has assembled to make it attractive for him.
I did see an article that said watch out for Purdue here… Interested to see whether any legs with that. Purdue looks well stocked with bigs after taking 2 in 2018, 1 in 2019 already and two underclassmen starters. They also will get his last visit it looks?
I think KU leads solidly here if the FBI thing hasn’t changed things

Good stuff on the Phog about JRE. Apparently he has concerns about starting and how he would be used at KU. Bought into Jay’s sales pitch. WOOF.
-
@BShark not good stuff

Ouch. None of this surprises me

Momentum = dropped off a cliff
-
@BShark just read where wright believes players should stay in 3 years.
-
@BeddieKU23 I didn’t read it that negatively. That said, it’s going to be extremely tough to beat UCLA.
@Crimsonorblue22 I mean that the information comes from posters that have had good info in the past. The news itself is a gut punch of course. Jay Wright OWNS Bill Self at this point.

Big swing and a miss. I’ve already moved on. I can’t blame him. Staff selling him and Hurt on playing together was never a good idea in my opinion. I didn’t ever see a scenario where they could start together on the same team. Now we might miss on both.
-
@Kcmatt7 his mom must be moving the family, cause I thought that was important. Dang! I hate this.

Absolutely no way to spin this one. Just have to move on and hopefully add Zeke Nnaji.
-
I taught Lester Earls cousin in Baton Rouge. Maybe I can help deliver JRE!
-
Here’s what I know about JRE. Now that it’s kind of out there, I can say his people think he can play the wing and has been promised some run on the perimeter at Nova, where KU sees him more of a traditional 4 (which, to be fair, he is). It’s also not over by any stretch of the imagination. KU certainly has their work out to close, but they definitely can.

I love JRE’s game, but man, he is not a wing. He’s a CENTER in Nova’s system.

Recruiting, man. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Any day now we should hear Azubuike wants to play point guard in the league
I mean there was that one time he went coast to coast with the ball.

Lol, for sure. I almost just replied to your post with #LiesToldInRecruiting but wanted to put some more words to it.

If you use twitter and don’t follow Slater, I’d fix that.

-
Ha! I saw that. There’s no way on Earth that’s legal
-
I’m 10,000% ready for that recruitment to end.
-
Or, better, I’d love for him to land here, roll up to AFH in his brand new Rolls Royce plastered with Adidas stickers and half of the fanbase act totally oblivious as to why he landed in Lawrence. You know, normal KU basketball things.
-
Man it’s starting to get really depressing looking here for any 'thing positive on recruiting. I mean I know you guys are just posting things you have read and heard. - I think the reason it’s so depressing to think we are losing recruits that we all thought we were sitting good on
ONCE just ONCE I would like to be able to see something positive on our recruiting the recruits. - -Looks like we are losing to Nova on JRE , and that absolutely sucks. – I just think we have lost Hurt , nothing solid but something is tellin me we have lost him - - - -I know it was crazy maybe to even think in the remotest - -crazy I know about even having a chance with Stanley Yet that was what I was thinking - -now it look more and more he IS NOT leaving the Coast , although I think someone here was mentioning from an article they had read about his visit to UCLA made it pretty official we had lost him
That article didn’t say that to me , in that article his dad STILL had some pretty good things about KU and Coach Self - -but yet I don’t think he is coming , Soooo that leaves us with Zeke. Now I fill confident about him yet even with him I’ve been hearing about Sweattie boy and Arizona - this could turn into a really sucky year. - -like I said ONCE please SOMEONE deliver me some good news on the recruiting front. - - see I’m depressed now lol. ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
@Kcmatt7 who are we talking about here?
-
2019 went from a class “we were in deep with” to what looks like could end up being Bill’s worst class in his entire time here at KU.

Something positive: I really like the addition of McBride. Dude is a BUCKET. Great shooter just needs some time to get stronger in the program. Should be a very nice 4 year guy.
If Self closes this class with Nnaji, Hurt and Stanley that would be pretty hot.
Stanley will be a tough pull, but doable. His dad sure seems to love Bill Self.
I think Purdue might actually be a bigger threat than Arizona for Zeke.
Too early to really tell with Hurt. Still hasn’t taken any OVs.

@BShark Absolutely did. Wouldn’t be shocked if it scared away Hurt and JRE. And will continue to be a cloud until the NCAA makes a ruling on it.
Fwiw, I do think we end up with at least a couple of top 100 guys before next season one way or another. I think Stumps could still be in trouble. I think Shaka could be in trouble. Bruce Pearl could end up in some stuff. UCLA is getting tired of not winning under Alford. Maryland is fed up with Turg. Add in any late risers or guys waiting on bigger offers.
So there is plenty of shuffling left. But we are definitely whiffing on our top guys and I totally thought Bill seemed to be getting in a groove again.
Just looking at uncommitted guys:
- Jaden McDaniels - What is up with him? Seems to have weak offers for being a top 10 guy. Perhaps a Spring signee?
- Precious looks like he is waiting. But also seems like he could be an eligibility nightmare? His recruitment has been quiet, but seems like Penny might have found a way in.
- Trendon Watford - We offered him. But apparently didn’t take the bait?
- Malik Hall - Man we didn’t even show any interest. Letting talent leave Kansas always bothers me.
- Carl Lewis - Is he an academic risk or something? NOBODY showing interest there.
- Tyrese Samuel - Only visited Wake so far. KSU supposedly involved, so he has to be clean right? lol.

We’ll see on Hurt. Last I knew he was more interested in high school football than college basketball. And the list within the list still had KU at or near the top, so we’ll see.
Here’s what I have on the rest: McDaniels - different type of dude. Kentucky is involved but I expect him to either stay home or go hang out with his brother.
Precious - Memphis is trying to get in, but UConn is also really strong there. Could be a G League candidate honestly.
Trendon - KU was never that serious about him given their desire for JRE, Hurt, and Zeke.
Lewis - has all the academic red flags. Probable JuCo.
Samuel - I think UConn or K-State. Don’t think KU is interested.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Most of that confirmed what I thought. Slim pickings left. My worst fear is landing another Landen Lucas.
-
@Kcmatt7 We’ve been disagreeing a lot lately, but not here – “Most of that confirmed what I thought. Slim pickings left. My worst fear is landing another Landen Lucas.” Right on point.
-
@HighEliteMajor I don’t think it hurts to have an LL. Just not a great idea to let him be your top option for 2.5 years.

Oh I couldn’t agree more, I think it kicked us right square in the old crotch - -big time kick. - Some people wee trying to fool themselves, that it wouldn’t/ Even if NOTHING comes from this, hell I even heard some people ssay that these are 17-18 yrs old kids and they don’t ever consider things like this - -and here is where I call BS
-
No surprise but Cole Anthony cut KU.
https://twitter.com/the_coleanthony/status/1057070826661601280?s=21
-
Anthony’s final 6 are Oregon, UNC, Norte Dame, Miami, Georgetown, and Wake Forrest.
-
Lol at that list.
-
Gonna look great in Carolina blue.
-
@FarmerJayhawk KSU people were acting like their class is done. If they are adding Samuel potentially, I guess Bruce is sharpening his axe on a currently unsuspecting kid.
I’m going to have to agree with @mayjay it doesn’t hurt to have a Landen Lucas around. Mitch is essentially another Lucas level player. The problem is if they have to start. Keep in mind the plan was NEVER for Lucas to start. Not one single year in his time at KU.
Anyway, Self will find some at least half-real guys, plus the returning roster should be decent. I’m not worried about next year as things currently stand.
Let’s look at other bigs in years Lucas got starts
SO year: Perry, Cliff, Jamari, Hunter
JR year: Perry, Diallo, Bragg, Jamari, Hunter
SR year: Doke, Bragg, Coleby and I guess Mitch but he wasn’t expected to be a factor
-
@BShark we can’t lose another game like the Oregon game. Great kid, but…

Crimsonorblue22 said:

My point was that there were other players, highly ranked, on all those teams that were supposed to start. No one was predicting Bragg would be a bust and you can never predict injuries like Doke. The rosters had plenty of bigs, the guy taking the 12/13th scholarship is never going to be a world beater.
-
Now, if we want to blame Self, I think that’s a conversation worth having. ESPECIALLY the Diallo year.
-
@BShark diallo still struggling but getting better.
-
If KU makes it to spring and has a great season and then the other trials start KU will be able to recruit again. Weather the storm right now, get lucky maybe with a recruit signing in November and let TIME be your friend.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Diallo would be a good college player by now. Lol He was raw!
-
Evan and Brian with the dagger CB’s
-
I understand it is not the end of the world, and KU will be fine in the end. However, missing on JRE is a pretty epic swing and miss. Hard to believe Self and the staff couldn’t close the deal on this one.
-
BeddieKU23 said:

To be clear for anyone wondering, Evan has a 95% success rate because he only puts in his pick when it’s DONE.
-
Bruce is definitely sharpening that ax. Bringing in an unranked 2019 SG for a visit. Name is Goodnews Kpegeol. If KSU offers on his visit, it would be his best offer by a mile.
-
@BShark I hate this!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nothing to do about it. If he bought the kool-aid enough to believe he will play some wing at Nova what can you do? Self/KU will bounce back and field a competitive team next year.
KU has a really good shot at Stanley because of his dad, imo @jayballer73
