Texas Longhorns - Friday - 8 pm - ESPN2

  • @wrwlumpy one other notable…the greatest golf coach and teacher of all time (and the UT coach of Crenshaw and kite), Harvey Penik. His Little Red Book is sacred golf text.

    PS I hate orange!

  • @wrwlumpy One Christmas wish, where’s that redhead? 😉 well done as always!

Only she’s in the right color now!! She looks better in blue!!

  • Are there any fans going to this game and is anyone aware of a pregame event in Austin?

  • @AsadZ

    @rockchalkintexas always goes.

  • @wrwlumpy Saltlick Barbecue. Great place!

  • When Buddy went crazy two years ago, KU fans gave him a standing ovation. We did the same for Kevin Durant after this game. By the way, we won both games. Mason steal of Buddy on an out of bounds play was the big play against OU and the final block by Julian Wright against UT.

  • @AsadZ Should be a pregame party at Scholz Beer Garden that happens every year.

  • @wrwlumpy Thank You. I hope to meet up

  • @wrwlumpy Man those bring back some days. - -Remembering that pair of Robinson & Chalmers - - pretty good little guards. - -Then Julian Wright - wonder what happened to him. Anyone know? - - Texas had some talented players - -Augustine - Durant some classic games. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Can’t wait to see this game. Is Doke ready for this one? If he can stay out of foul trouble, I think he will have a huge game!

  • Given how college games are officiated, either Azuibuke or Bamba ends up in early foul trouble. That will decide how the first half goes, and which team is working its way out of a deficit at the break.

KU has the advantage since Texas is without Jones, but the Horns are getting better PG play as Coleman continues to progress, so they could be a real threat here. Still, KU by 6.

  • Hmmm, had a friend ask me yesterday, brought up a scenario , ask me and possible point, now wonder. - -He says what happens if Billy went home over the Christmas break, gets in contact with Coach asks if they had heard anything at all - -Coach says no Billy - -no we haven’t. - -Billy says then I’m done sit the whole 1st semester not getting to play , just decides to hire an agent and concentrate of preparing for the NBA instead of wasting time and getting nowhere with the NCAA. - -Wonder if he is back with the team? - - Wonder if De Sousa made it? - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

The counterpoint to that is that right now, Preston can work out with the team, meaning he’s at least getting to practice against good competition.

The only reason it would make sense to leave KU is if he went to the G-League for the rest of the season, then prepped for the draft. It wouldn’t make sense to leave right now, with six months until the draft when he can stay at KU and practice unless he has somewhere else to go that gives him the chance to practice against quality players like Doke, the Lawson’s, etc. and play with good guards as well.

The G-League has that. Most other places don’t by this time since even the shorter season foreign leagues have started by now, meaning the free agent talent pool is pretty shallow at this point - mostly guys working back from injury. That’s not the best talent to work against.

If Billy isn’t going to the G-League, he might as well stay at KU.

  • @justanotherfan Ya, very true, good points. - -I really hadn’t even thought about it actually until my buddy brought this up yesterday.

I for one , and know countless others just wish this would come to a conclusion hell even one way or another at this point. - Really no strong idea personally myself about if he came back or not - -probably so , but then again you don’t wanna say never say never either in this crazy world. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

I don’t think anyone would care really if he left

  • @justanotherfan I have been wondering about the Doke / Bamba matchup and I don’t know what to think. Will Doke’s strength even matter with Bamaba’s length and quickness? I honestly don’t know who has the advantage but I’m thinking Bamba.

  • I personally hope De Sousa is available for Friday’s game just in case we get in to foul trouble. No knock to Clay Young or Solinski but having another legit big to go if Mitch and Doke both pick up fouls would be nice. Mitch will foul, it’s a given his blocks are nice but once people get the hint that he jumps at every shot fake, he’ll be in foul trouble. Doke IMO hasn’t got a ton of calls this year, he’s so gruthy that if was smaller he’d half twice the ft attempts but probably would’ve missed more than half anyway lol. I hope the refs let the boys play a little down in the paint.

Not so sure about that. - I thin there would be enough that would care IF he did leave.

  • @kjayhawks

Even if he’s cleared to play he will have had 3 practices. Self would play his walk ons before him at that point in my opinion. It’s going to take weeks wouldn’t you think for him to learn the offense and defensive responsibilities

I think we are going to regret ever signing him when we reflect on the season

  • @BeddieKU23 of coarse I wouldn’t plan on him playing but if your choices at the 5 spot are 6’4 Young or a 6’7 football player over the 6’9 4 star recruit who would you play? I doubt his cleared by the NCAA that quickly and hope we don’t need him but you never know.

  • @kjayhawks

I agree I would play him and see what he can do. We just know our coach is huge on trusting his guys before playing them. In this case he knows nothing of how KU does anything and has not earned anything. I think everyone involved knows he can help us but it’s about using him when he’s ready.

  • @BeddieKU23 Yep, I wouldnt bet on him playing for a week or two, maybe longer but if the other guys are in foul trouble it’s better in the long haul for him to play over them.

  • @kjayhawks

See I agree that it would be best for the silvio if he was good enough to play right away. But what’s best for the team? And what’s best for the guys that have been battling together for the first 2 months of the season. When silvio is what’s best for the team as well as himself that’s when I think we begin to see what his role could be here this year

  • How in the world can Self justify playing DeSousa when he refused to play Diallo? DeSousa in three days (or in three weeks) can’t be up to speed on what we do, compared to Diallo. Or maybe, perhaps, possibly, the chatter about Diallo was baloney. Or maybe DeSousa is a genius and we didn’t know it.

Or, maybe, when you don’t have an undertalented security blanket your hand is forced.

  • @HighEliteMajor Or maybe that says something about Diallo…

Diallo also was on a team with Perry, Landen, Jamari, Mickelson and Bragg so depth wasn’t near the issue it is currently.

Or, maybe. Just maybe. Bill might be conceding the Big XII in an effort for March. I doubt that. But, Bill needs another Championship and he might think that this team has what it takes outside of post play. So, he might be willing to lose 3 or 4 early in Conference play if he believes it means we can really hit our stride come the time the Tournament starts.

There are a lot of differences between the Diallo and De Sousa situation. And a lot more reasons to play De Sousa now. I’m hoping he was prepped well at IMG. He looks physically able to play the game at the P5 level. If that is true, it will just take a month before he can really be a contributor. Especially because I’m sure Bill has a plan in place to bring him along quicker than the average freshman.

De Sousa alone doesn’t really raise this teams ceiling all that much, IMO. But, De Sousa makes the Billy decision that much bigger because he allows us to play big. The Billy and De Sousa combo is huge.

Well see this is what I like about this room we can give our honest opinion, give our opinions Just so happens on this one we don’t agree but that’s ok. - -I see where you posted above that Coach would play his walk ons before De-Sousa . - I have just got to say I just think your totally wrong on that.

Like I stated somewhere back 3 practices whatever, Coach would do Silvio just like the football walk on if nothing else. - Coach ask our walk on the 1st game he played in - -are you ready for this? - -He replied I don’t know any of it. - -Which Silvio wouldn’t either BUT like the Coach told him - -that’s ok - -just sit a high ball screen and roll to the basket.

De Sousa can do just the same , until he can start picking up the offense. - -Some people seem to feel we need Silvio to produce some un Godly offensive numbers. Now I am not saying you think that but there are those that do To the contrary, that’s not a must from the get go with De Sousa. He is only going to basically get spot minutes for awhile anyways, giving Dok relief when foul trouble and such. He can like Coach said sit the high ball screen and roll to the basket score some - -get some garbage 2nd chance rebounds - -put backs, we have enough scoring where it is not a must for him to score huge. At least not right off the bat.

The bigger thing we need for him is on the defensive end Rebounding giving fouls and rebounding on the offensive end - he would be fine for a bit. Again it’s ok to disagree right? - -Everybody has their own opinion and this just happens to be mine that’s all - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @Kcmatt7 The answer is of course the depth issue. Self did not have to play Diallo. So he took the easier path. Playing the comfortable sweater, the one that keeps you warm, but the one you know will end in an uncomfortable rash before the end of the day.

  • @jayballer54

If Silvio can play Friday Self will play his walk-ons. He played the football player at the end of a blowout win, not exactly throwing him out there in the fire. Now Sosinski has had more time to learn what is required of him if need be. He’ll play the guys that know what they are doing. That’s not Silvio yet. We are in Big-12 play, Bill Self’s baby. On the road defending our streak, yeah Self isn’t about to throw guys out there for the sake of it.

In due time though. I’m hoping by February he’s either our 2nd big or 3rd big in the rotation

Again this why like I said it’s good to have a forum to voice opinions. - -IF I were a betting man - I would have to place that wager with you that De-Sousa would see action in a conference game before walk on’s - but I spend my money more wisely. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 -You don’t need to know the offense to be able to rebound and supply fouls to give & defend - & screen and roll really simple and De-Sousa. knows how to do that right now. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

any coach would roll in their grave reading that.

  • I wonder how Preston feels watching Sivio in practice today? If Silvio is the monster rebounder they say he is, let him play.

Roll baby roll - -that’s not me sayin that - -that’s Coach Self saying that plain and simple roll baby roll - -screen and roll - -screen and roll.

You think I’m the only one that said he would be fouls to give? - - Have you read any of the other comments with people saying the same? -mercy man please - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Don’t let BeddieKU23 hear you say that - if Silvio can rebound I said you don’t need to know offense to rebound - they said the Coach would roll in their grave - -Well wonder how funny it is when Coach Self said himself - -IF you can set a high screen and roll to the basket then fine - -and that is what Silvio could do for the time being - -some can’t seem to let that sink in. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @whipperboy73

He asked a walk on in a blowout if he could play a few minutes. Big difference in asking him to play in a big 12 game that most likely wont be a blowout don’t you think. Funny stuff as always

  • @HighEliteMajor The team that Diallo played on had considerably more depth at the post position. We have 2 post players in Mitch and Doke. They will both play over him obviously but if they both are in foul trouble it would make more sense to play De Sousa whom maybe able to help us later in the year and in all honesty watching De Sousa I’d be shocked if he isn’t getting most of Mitch’s minutes bye seasons end. He’s bigger, stronger, more athletic and most likely a better rebounder walking in the gym today. It will depend on how long he takes to buy in and get used to the speed of the college game.

  • Diallo had ZERO clue where to be on the floor on the offensive end, and it screwed up the entire team. Hence, the players voted to start Landon instead. Hopefully De Sousa can learn how to set a screen and at least run a couple in-bound plays.

UMM, how much different is there in rebounding in a game with 20 minutes left - - 5 minutes left - -1 minute left- - you know how to rebound – you know how to rebound. - how much difference is there to set a high screen and roll with twenty minutes left - or one minute left - -yes very funny stuff as always indeed lmao. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

roflmfao - -whatever you say boss whatever you say lmao – I’m not buttin heads - -your not dragging into that . - oh just one minor thing though how is a rebound of the ball any different from the tip of a game to the end - would seem to me the ball bounces off the rim - -off the board the same way - -BUT your right - don’t mean to rock the boat - - don’t ripple your waters just curious but I’M SURE YOUR RIGHT - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @whipperboy73 Heh, I’m fine. I just think it’s way too hard to extrapolate anything based on the time Sosinski got against Sisters of the Poor U. He played 4 minutes. His PER is 57 (HOWLING as @jaybate-1-0 would say), his Ortg is 207 and his net BPM is 9.4. He might have a nose for the ball, he might not, we will see if he ever plays against real competition in real minutes.

Who Sosinski? - - - lmao - because you can take it to the bank De-Sousa will. - you think DeSousa came and enrolled early and is giving up half his freshman season to sit the bench? - - lmao, come on man I know your not that thick. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Gonna be a great conference season.

    Shaka has these guys ready.

    Rock Chalk!

  • @justanotherfan

Keep in mind that if he stays he still has to attend classes and maintain good grades. In the G League is all basketball all the time.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

    This is definitely true.

Some guys are surprised by that element of pro basketball. It is all basketball all the time because basketball is your job. You have to get up and go lift. You have to eat right. You have to work on different elements of your game with a mind towards improvement.

You can’t just go in the gym and shoot. You have to go in the game and work at game speed. You have to work on your jab step 17 footer. You have to work on your step back 17 footer. You have to work on your one dribble to the left 17 footer. You have to work on your one dribble to the right 17 footer. You have to work on your pick and pop 17 footer. Then you have to do all of that again at 15. Then again at 19.

Then you have to work in the post. You have to finish while people hit you with pool noddles and push you with boxing pads.

    You have to condition.

    You have to stretch.

You have to watch film to understand the nuances of offensive and defensive sets that are three or four times more complex than anything you have seen to this point in your basketball life.

It’s just like a job. You clock in at 2 and clock out after the game at 10. On off days you might clock in at 10, and clock out at 5.

  • @wrwlumpy I am going. Headed to Scholz Garten before the game in case anyone else is going. ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK BEAT UT.
