Non-KU games

Hopefully it has a good ending. KU took a chance on a somewhat similar kid…Jamari Traylor…worked well for both sides.

I think it is good that you are an engineer and can see and sort through all these connections.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Who finishes 2nd? Yes, it looks like WVU would appear to have a slight advantage. If I had my druthers, I would like ISU to be the 4th seed…I would rather potentially play them in the 2nd round (payback!) and let WVU and Baylor (theoretically) beat up on each other before we (again, theoretically) play them.
-
@Kcmatt7 NO NO NO NO NO! KEEEEEEEEEEEEP Weber. Forever and ever and ever. K-State deserves him. He deserves K-State.
-
Not sure he has much choice recruiting to Lubbock. That may be the model that KSU needs to pursue as well. They just can’t compete trying to win HS recruits over KU, OU and other strong regional programs. They are just a half step above WSU in terms of recruiting. Juco may be their best chance.
-
Agree. West Texas is a DUMP.
-
Right, your never going to get a lot of top talent in Lubbock so they definitely hired a coach that will take whatever he can get.
What’s interesting about the 2 transfers from the Power 5 schools is; Brandon Francis (2014 #35 overall recruit on ESPN). Missed his freshman year with academics then was buried on the depth chart last season only playing 10 minutes a game for Florida and shooting a deplorable 20% from the field on 100 shots. Will be a 4th year Jr that came in with a big time reputation out of HS… Imagine Beard will get the most out of him.
Then he gets Tommy Hamilton from Depaul who averaged between 7-10 points a game in 3 seasons. A 6’11 big who shot 44% from 3 as a Jr. I think he’ll start next season next to Smith. And Tech should return 4 starters that will all be Seniors. He could go 10 deep with Juniors and Seniors next season. I see Tech being a top 25 squad and a top 5 Big-12 team next season.
It seems with so many upperclassmen that next years recruiting class will be key to putting out a consistent team

@BShark The prettiest girls on earth. The friendliest people on earth. The best mexican food anywhere. Bite your tongue.
-
@ralster I feel the same way. I still get a chuckle about a poster over on KUSPORTS last year that was adamant that KU should fire Bill, and hire Turgeon. That had to be the dumbest post of the decade.

Been there, hated it. I’m talking about Lubbock and the vast wastelands of west Texas. I have no idea where you live.

Wait whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? That’s gotta be some good weed. What has Turgeon EVER done?

He played basketball at KU?
-
In an alternate universe where Arkansas locks down their border how good are they with Allen and Monk? Wow.
-
@BShark when Kentucky decides to play defense, they are a final four caliber team.
-
Yep. This is why I think people not counting them as a contender are nuts. The Squid usually gets them gelling for the tourney.
-
@BShark the nit?
-
Since Cal got to Kentucky he has 23 tourney wins. KU and Self have 16… Not sure your point.
-
@BShark correct. Dont know why KU fans try to discount Cal in the tournament. He rarely gets upset in the tournament. And people dont mention that Kentucky in 2013 struggled AFTER Nerlens Noel went down for the season.
-
Yeah I don’t like Cal one bit but discounting his greatness in the tournament is silly. UK typically performs.
-
WVU and TCU in a tight one.
-
WVU beats TCU 61-60 on a ft. Probably one of the most laughable foul calls I’ve seen. But no one will bat an eye because it ain’t us.
-
@kjayhawks And TCU missed 2 FTs late that could have won the game.
-
Motley just got called for an offensive foul. WELL I’LL BE.
-
Also the announcer in this game just said he wouldn’t be surprised if the WCC had two teams make the final four. Must be on some good weed.
-
Michigan is crushing Purdue.
-
@Hawk8086 yes TCU had their chances no question with the missed FTs and 22 turnovers. It was just crap way to end a game IMO and like I said if won that way it would be all over the web.
-
Burton going off again, keeping ISU in it with Baylor.
-
Lecomte limping, going to the bench.
-
Announcer said ISU needs to put Niang and Morris’s jerseys in the rafters. Am I missing something? What did they ever win?
-
ISU just let Motley straight up walk to the rim for a Dunk. #Hoiballlikeitneverleft
-
lololol Baylor
-
ISU going to win courtesy of dumb plays by Baylor. Also a banked 3 by Burton. At least he does that against teams other than us. I guess there is some of that stinkin magic left.
-
Baylor is doing its classic annual wet all over myself, their folding easier then a cheap wet suit. they really needed this game I think they are definitely going THE WRONG WAY Let’s GO HAWKS. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
-
Good, no OT in Ames to delay seeing our game. RCJH
-
Erwin isn’t even half full yet with 4 minutes to tip. More blue than orange in here today.

@Texas-Hawk-10 u get a shirt?

Grimes should take note.
Also, DOWN GOES DUKE AGAIN.

How is it that suckface has so many P5 leve bigs at Louisville but Self can barely get any?
-
@BShark Have you noticed the resemblance between suckface and Skeletor? Has anyone seen them together?I’m thinking they’re one and the same.
-
Maybe this explains why he was dogging the UNC fan:
-
@BShark Oh, KSU can be “better at every position”, if they play the game of their collective lives, and KU plays at a C+ level–> then sure, they are better at every position for that moment. Like the KSU game at KU. It took a Svi international-distance travel to win…
But if A+ miracle KSU game is “better” then KU’s C-level outing, I’ll give them that fig. But the problem is, seasons and statistics tend to regress towards the mean. Law of averages. Look at KSU’s slide. I dont call him Weber-downdraft without reason. Ask the Illini fans.
The other problem for KSU fans, is not the implosion of their team, but asking them to explain how exactly, despite the law of averages, KU players have broken their averages, especially on FT shooting in conf play, and Josh’s 3pt % in conf play. Hmm, I also recall the 08 Champs making a noticeable jump in their FT % as a team, during conf play. Different sets of players. Same KU trajectory. Self is the constant.
-
@justanotherfan I’d humbly ask for you to explain why you would rank Shaka Smart right next to 2 HOF caliber coaches in Bob Huggins and Lon Kruger? I have tremendous respect for Huggins and Kruger. Huggins doing it with no-name players, but always a top20 team. Kruger a proven multiple program builder, and player developer. I’ll never utter a disparaging word about Bob Huggins and Lon Kruger.
Call me stupid, but regarding the evidence on Shaka Smart, I guess I am still searching for it?? I do like what I have seen out of Chris Beard, Brad Underwood, and Jamie Dixon in their first seasons in the BigXII. Compare the feel of the OSU, TxTech and TCU programs, with the gloom and apathy seen in Erwin center last night, almost to March. None of the 3 TX teams will make the Dance, but the “feel” of the programs is vastly different, right now.
Also look at OU vs KSU the other night. One very young OU team clearly getting better, while the other team, far more experienced, doing that famed Weberdowndraft powercat-powerslide. So, given this bigXII backdrop, where would you rank Shaka, if allowed to reconsider?
(just friendly bucketeer banter and discussion here on the BigXII)

With the personnel available, Texas should have finished in the top half of the conference and yet it sits dead last…a gross underachievement that can be directly attributed to coaching. I guess sound basketball coaching was lost in translation.
-
@BShark hookers? ️️ But he doesn’t know, shhhhh
-
Baylor and KSU area now on a free fall. Baylor probably now down to a #4 seed and the kitty cats, short of a run to the Big 12 tournament title game, probably headed to the NIT.
-
@KUSTEVE Now I’m conflicted. Ive always referred to Maria Shriver as Skeletor (walking skeleton, with scary bony face. Angelina Jolie is scary thin, but isnt a skeleton face).
-
@JayHawkFanToo Perfectly said. I think Rick Barnes would have TX in top half of conf with this roster.

Strong theory.

Self would have them in the tournament.
-
Big chance to stop the bleeding tonight against WVU. Strong non-conference will keep them in the discussion for a top-3 seed. If they don’t start playing better they probably don’t deserve it. I think a lot of Baylor’s struggles have to do with Al Freeman’s struggles. He was averaging 11 points a game for most of the season and then the rug has fell out from under him the past month +.
First 17 games - 11 points a game
Last 11 games - 5 points a game including 3 DNP’s for suspension
Without Freeman as that 3rd scorer Baylor is really hurting…
-
If I had to rank the coaches on a scale, it would be Self at the top with a score of 100. Huggins and Kruger would be next, with scores in the high 80s. Smart would be in the high 70s, followed by Drew and Dixon in the mid-70’s. Beard and Underwood would follow in the high 60’s, then Prohm in the mid 60’s and Weber in the high 50’s.
There’s more distance from Kruger to Smart than there is from Smart to Drew and Dixon.
I think Smart is a good coach. I have watched his work with USA basketball and he knows his stuff. He had success at VCU and I think he will succeed at Texas once he gets his roster right. I don’t think Texas is interested in firing him because they know it would be a huge mistake to have to re-shuffle the entire roster again.
-
@justanotherfan Now, don’t get all sensible on us. Don’t you know that whether a coach is any good depends only on whether he has at some point pissed us off?
