2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft
-
Sean Payton looks pretty bad throwing Hackett under the bus the way he did. Now he’s cussing his QB out on the sideline and s-cans him in less than a year. I’m beginning to think Drew Brees made Payton look better at coaching than he would’ve looked elsewhere.
-
@mayjay I wish that’s the way they paid public school teachers!
-
Report is out that Chiefs are signing D Tranquil, 3 yrs $19M, 13M guaranteed.
This is a good move to lock in one of key players.
-
Signing Chris Jones 5 yrs.
-
Yes!
-
@mayjay $95M guaranteed, about $32M per year, Wow
-
Denver traded Judey to Browns, I was not expecting this one.

I haven’t seen the implications yet. Hope it’s not a cap crusher deal! Five years is a loooong time. Wow. But I’m very happy he’s locked in. Who’s next?
-
Patriots traded Jones to Jags for 6th rounder.
With 3rd pick they will now definitely select QB.
-
Mayfield getting 3 years $100M from Bucks.
-
Wow, sounds like the Jones contract is extremely cap friendly. $6M per year or so?
-
@rockchalkjayhawk 7.4mil in year one. 35 mil in year 2, 41 million in year 3. 12 million in dead cap if he’s cut after year 3. 30 million signing bonus is spread over all 5 years evenly and his salary varies from year to year. 31.8million average per year.
Forgive me if I’m off a little I’m going off the top of my head. I’ll post a link if I can find it.
-
Dorrance Armstrong sings with the Commanders. Three years for 45.
-
As I guess expected it’s pretty quiet on the Chiefs FA front. Probably no big names coming our way? I do expect some lesser signings at some point. Cmon WR! Ha.
Actually, O line likely a point of emphasis, huh.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk Veach doesn’t like to have glaring needs going into the draft, but the cap it pretty tight. Need to trade or sign Sneed and that would clarify the salary cap situation. There is about 30 million in wiggle room in Mahomes contract by converting salary to a roster bonus or some nonsense that spreads the cap hit out over multiple years. You eventually have to account for it though.
-
It appears that Justin Fields with remain with Bears.
Most teams tied to him, have already selected their quarterback.
This may end up being a good move for bears, create battle and competition for number one spot.
-
Willie Gay out the door. Bummer.
WR option Mooney sign elsewhere, too.
-
Hollywood
-
So jacked to get Keenan Allen. All the sudden that’s a heck of a supporting cast for (likely) Caleb Williams.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Gotta wonder if the Chargers are snake bit or if it’s the players. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen are both studs, but always seemed injured, same on the defensive side of the ball.
At least one injury I can 100% pin on the staff is giving their starting quarterback an injection that accidentally punctured his lung and prematurely ended Tyrod’s time in LA.
-
I think Houston @Texas-Hawk-10 and Philly have improved most this year by their FA signings and moves.
-
@dylans it’s wild. Something always seems to go horribly wrong with them going back to the Marty days
-
Fields to Pittsburgh for a conditional 2025 pick. Caleb come on down!
-
Personally I think Bears should have kept him to create competition, no matter how talented it’s not easy for rookie Quarterbacks to excel in rookie year. Mahomes sat and learned from Alex Smith in his rookie year.

Crazy that the best they could get for Fields is a 4th round pick…if he plays 51% of the snaps. Fields is the projected backup to the “entrenched” Russel Wilson.
-
@dylans I think Bears made a mistake here but lets see.
-
I think it’s the right move. As a Bears fan, it’s been awful watching Fields take sack after sack and make all the wrong plays late in games. Something like half of his total turnovers are in the 4th quarter.
-
@dylans That wasn’t their best offer and taking the best offer wasn’t the goal. They were trying to get Fields into the best situation for him and sitting a year behind Wilson in Pittsburgh is what was determined to be best for Fields.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 If that’s the case then my hats off to Bears brass
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 If you believe the PR machine. Fields has proven to be a bad qb and it seems the market reflects it.

There’s also been multiple reporters confirming Chicago had better offers on the table for Fields, but wanted to do right by Fields and send him to a good situation. Sitting behind Russell Wislon for a year isn’t a terrible spot to be in.
-
Ugh, Sneed has been nearly officially traded to the Titans.
2025 3rd round pick main asset in return.
This should save the Chiefs about $19M in cap space.
We will see how the spend it, but I’d rather have Sneed. Great talent on a team that needs a strong defense.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I’m not sorry to see him go if it opens up the cap that much. 18 penalties sort of offsets the “no reg season TDs allowed” accomplishment.
-
He is getting PAID.
Emotionally I am feeling sorry to see him go.
NFL Business wise, I am at peace.
All said, I am happy for him.
-
What happened to the lineman who had the most penalties in the league? Can’t recall his name, even though they called out his name enough on all those flags.
-
Was it 74?
-
Jawwan taylor
-
Taylor is not going anywhere for years with the contract he has.
-
I don’t think he had 1 penalty in any playoff game.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 It’s easy to forget when you win - illegal block and a false start against Miami. Illegal use of hands against Buffalo. Holding against Baltimore. I think one of those penalties was declined (the defensive version of a free play). He was very consistent in drawing penalties- at least he figured out where to line up. Taylor stinks when it comes to penalties, but his blocking is immaculate.

$24.7mil per year for the next 3 years - mostly guaranteed. Taylor will be anchoring the line for the next 3 years at a minimum, more if Veach extends his contract to spread some of the cap hit out later.
-
The Chiefs may need to draft a WR with their first pick of Rashee Rice is going to be unavailable. (Rice is wanted in connection to a wreck in Dallas.) Probably better secure one of the FA OTs that are available for draft flexibility.
-
@dylans Damn
I was hoping for an offseason without drama.
-
Jeez, say what now? I haven’t seen that yet. I don’t wanna look!
-
Meh, just read about it. No deaths or life threatening injuries. Dumb asses racing on the freeway probably.
Not expecting a major penalty. Fingers crossed though!
-
@rockchalkjayhawk - another issue is both drivers ran from the scene. I believe Texas law says you have to “render aid”. Running speaks to character. But - maybe Rice wasn’t driving or even there. I’ll wait for the police report.

Doesn’t look too terrible. However running from the scene of an accident where an injury occurs is a felony in Texas. - I’ll try to find more precise info on that, but basically the worse someone is hurt the worse the penalty, but even minor injuries can incur a couple year jail sentence if you run.
-
@dylans Not me - I copied and pasted from another chat room. Take it for what it’s worth.
——————————
Ok… just got off the phone with my brother and he works in Houston and Dallas with us both being attorneys. Yeah a family of all attorneys!
Soooo… with up to $200 worth of property damage before leaving the scene, they have committed a Class C misdemeanor.
maximum fine of $500 No jail time
An accident that results in more than $200 worth of damages is a Class B misdemeanor, which is
maximum fine of $2,000 maximum jail sentence of 180 days
Now this gets tricky…
More serious the accident was, the stricter the penalties for leaving the scene. A hit&run involving a “serious injury” classifies as a 3rd degree felony.
maximum fine of $10,000 prison sentence from 2 to 10 years
Finally, leaving the scene of a fatal accident is a 2nd degree felony or man slaughter.
Minimum fine of $10,000 and a prison sentence from 5 to 20 years
Now there were minimum injuries but whoever was involved with be hit with civil lawsuits of course. We both can see pleading down if the DA racks up a bunch of charges. Hopefully reckless driving and possible street racing. But who knows now.
-
Ok, cruising the top site for this kinda stuff (TMZ pays the best for source material)…these guys look to be absolute idiots. I’m still guessing Rice has a semi soft landing, but it now would not surprise me if it were harsher after seeing the scene.
I’m no expert, but dude in white could be Rice? Hair looks right, hard to say on face.
Lots of damage done to cars. I’m still guessing this pleads down to not much, but for sure civil suits coming.
Maybe he’s got a good excuse.
-
@rockchalkjayhawk I believe it was reported that he was wearing the red bandana thing and the black shirt at the bowling alley earlier in the day. That dude in the white shirt is huge - looks like a football player, but Rice isn’t that big.
Hopefully this gets resolved today. Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
