I wonder how popular ksu will be w/out a lot their starters? The fans and their pick of bowls?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 - I hadn’t seen that anywhere. Link?
-
I meant will they think twice about giving ksu a better bowl than us considering they are losing quality players and maybe lack a great fan crowd.
-
So, GR Bowl is in Phoenix on Dec 26? Boxing Day timing might mess up big attendance by either school…
-
@mayjay Phoenix is not even known as a big venue for boxing.

Pop Tarts Bowl officials have been at a lot of recent KSU games so that seems like the most likely scenario for them. The conference title games could also impact the Big 12 as Texas still has a shot at the CFP and OU is still in play for a NY6 Bowl which could impact KU and bump us up to the Texas Bowl.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 The Texas Bowl would be in your city correct?
-
So which record carries the most weight, overall wins/losses or conference record? Using overall KU’s 8-4 record puts us in a tie for 3rd with KST and WV. But, conference record of 5-4 puts us in a tie for 7th with Tx Tech. We’ll know Sunday for sure. Why doesn’t the NCAA make a big deal out of the announcements like the NCAA tournament? I guess the individual bowls want to make the announcements to their schools as soon as possible so there’s no control over the information getting out.
-
So what happens if Bama beats Georgia?
-
@kjayhawks Texas has to be the choice right? 1 loss champ and has the head to head over Bama.
Things get really nuts if FSU loses
-
@FarmerJayhawk yes it does, obviously Washington is locked in being #3 and winning the conference. But yes if FSU, Georgia and/or Michigan lose. It becomes a total guess

NCAA doesn’t hype it because they don’t make money from it. A majority of the bowls are actually operated by ESPN so they have original content to air this time of year.
Conference record is typically what carries more weight, but that’s not the only factor determining who plays in which bowl game. Each bowl game is given a spot in the priority order and when it’s that bowl game’s time to choose, they can choose any eligible team from that conference, but the bowls mostly do follow the order of finish in the conference when selecting.
For example, Kentucky’s record has them slotted into the Music City Bowl this year, but they’ve played there a bunch in recent years and basically told the SEC that they want to play in a different bowl game this year. KU’s record would have them slotted into the Liberty Bowl again this year, but some bowls try to avoid bringing teams back in consecutive years.
Is KU a more attractive team than WVU this year? Maybe, but the team that’s consistently been projected to the Texas Bowl in recent weeks is Texas A&M which is the team that bowl cares more about landing because College Station is about a 90 minute drive from Houston and will be the ticket seller for the game since Houston is the largest A&M alumni base. Because of that, they won’t really care who the Big 12 is and will likely take whoever the highest finishing B12 team left is when it’s their turn to choose if they land A&M.

In that scenario, Washington, Texas, and Alabama would be in and it would likely ve Georgia that gets that 4th spot.
At this point, without Jordan Travis, I’m think FSU may have to blow out Louisville to keep the 4th seed and a close win may drop them below Texas at this point with how dominant Texas was today.
-
Watching this Bama game KU has better QBs, plural than both the tide and dogs. Never thought that would happen.
-
So we find out tomorrow where w land? - - anyone know what time we will find out ?
-
If FSU wins they have to be in. If Bama wins , you can’t put them in and NOT Texas. They would have the same record , both conference champs, but Texas obviously Beat Bama at Bama by 10.

Playoff selection show is on at 11am tomorrow on ESPN and will be on until 2pm so sometime between then.

Losing Jordan Travis matters and an ugly win tonight won’t help FSU’s cause because they aren’t a better team than Texas without Travis.

That’s never really mattered though. It’s never the 4 “best” teams. If FSU goes 13-0 they deserve to be in.

Oh, ok , thank you , appreciate that. - -So will they be announcing all bowls or just the really big one’s ? – never mind being on that long probably most of them huh

Guaranteed rate bowl in Glendale, vs Maryland Dec 26? Says projections via the Athletic

Ksu gets pop tarts vs ncs

Available players was a criteria and FSU missing Jordan Travis mattered as it should have. Someone was going to be screwed over and FSU without Jordan Travis has not looked like a playoff team against an average Florida team and an average Louisville team.
-
Playoffs are set 1.Michigan 2. Washington 3. Texas 4. Alabama. I agree with @Texas-Hawk-10 FSU is likely from the weakest conference and down to its 3rd string QB. Any of these 4 teams selected spank them IMO.
-
Saw Jerry Palm/CBS Bowl projections : - he has KU vs California in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport.
8 Big 12 teams in bowl : - -Liberty – ISY/Memph - -Alamo Bowl – Okla/Ariz - -Pop Tarts - --Okie St/ND - -Texas Bowl - - K/State/Texas A& M
Guaranteed Rate – WV/Minn - -Armed Forces - -Texas Tech/Troy - --Cure Bowl - -UCF/Ark St
That’s CBS- w shall see
-
So do we get a break against ksu and TT w/out our second string qb? Just being snotty!

The Guaranteed Rate Bowl website already mentions WV and Minn.

Does anyone watch the early bowls, like the Independence Bowl on Dec 16?
-
Depends on work, time and teams. I try to watch big 12.

ya CBS saying the same thing
-
247 sports final projection Bowl has KU - / Minnesota in the Guaranteed Rate bowl - -& Tech in the Independence Bowl
-
Independence Bowl would be so disappointing as that’s the lowest ranked bowl game in priority for the Big 12.
-
Hoping for Pop Tarts or Texas. I think we have a decent chance of that if OU goes to a NY6 and OSU goes to Alamo
-

KSU is locked into the Pop-Tarts Bowl and OU isn’t getting a NY6 game unfortunately.
-
Probably GR then. At least we’ll more than likely be 9-4
-
Liberty over SMU is a joke. Oregon is going to do things only Jerry Falwell would be into to them

Rough day for the ACC. Alabama gets picked over FSU because they are the perceived better team, but Liberty gets picked over SMU because reasons.
-
Liberty also has a terrible SOS
-

I also don’t feel like any G5 team deserved a spot this year in a NY6 game, but I’m fine with an undefeated Liberty getting in over 2 loss SMU when one of those 2 losses was an uncompetitive loss to a non bowl eligible TCU team.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich yep literally the worst. 133/133. Oh well.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich I’m excited to see Liberty & Oregon.
I’ve never seen a football team score 100 before.
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich I personally think the ACC is the worst of the power 5 conferences by a wide margin
-
We should be locked into Phoenix
-
OU gets the Alamo bowl vs Arizona, not good for us smh

Think they had a winning record against the SEC this year
-
@KirkIsMyHinrich I wouldn’t flinch playing any team in that conference . Guess will find if they get spanked in most their bowls.
-
Bowls aren’t as good of an indicator as early season non-con games imo. Too many players sit out bowl games, or team doesn’t care etc
-
UNLV

Gonna be a shootout. Actually would like to hire their OC
