Just for you, for at least the third time now. KU will have a better record than last season because they have better players. I’ve never question the athleticism had been upgraded with Storr and Griffen, Mayo other hand is a push as he’s not athletic. Moore before his injury was an upgrade, now it’s wait and see how he recovers since he’s missing the most important part of the season.
We know what Adams, Dickinson, and Harris are on defense, good and bad. Mayo couldn’t guard anyone in the Summit League so he won’t magically start being able to guard B12 level athletes and that’s going to become obvious real quick. Storr and Griffen just don’t try on that end which is why it sounds like Mayo is the leader for the 5th starting spot right now. Unless that changes, KU’s defense is going to be dog shit this year.
KU’s lack of NBA ready talent is going to limit their ceiling this season. Who on this team is getting drafted, let alone in the 1st round in 2025? That’s a big problem.
As far as the B12 race, I think KU finishes higher than 6th, but won’t win the league. In the NCAA’s this team probably makes it past the first weekend, but they’re not a Final Four team.

The lack of legit nba talent is an issue. Storr could be that as he has some ant Edwards in his game but he’s gotta adjust his effort as we’ve all heard

I think Mayo starts. He got benched as a lesson to shoot more. He responded favourably, so I think he will be rewarded.

Yeah that’s not possible unless someone leaves. And before anyone asks, he can’t walk on for a semester. There are a lot of restrictions on how walk ons get recruited (or not).

“I don’t think so,” Self said. “I can’t say positively, because I don’t know how he’s going to respond a month from now. But we didn’t recruit him here to play next year. We recruited him to play this year.”

Interesting. May as well get him in early to build up strength and conditioning for next year. Learn the system, too.

A thought not based on any information just a gut feeling: I could see Bill retiring after next year. It’s either that or he has to change his approach because you can’t count on having a main core of guys for 3-4 years anymore.

Agreed. Or sooner. And this is the first time ever that I’m seriously questioning Self and his game plan or ability.

This team would be better if AJ Storr simply was not on the roster probably.

It genuinely seems like Coach has lost this locker room already. Bringing in all these guys was to lessen the load on the core 3 instead we’re getting more of a mediocre core than ever.

I’m not even trying to point fingers. But from the outside looking in Self has made some mistakes and I’m not putting it all on the transfers as I’m sure they weren’t told during the recruiting process they’ll get a front row seat to the Dajuan/KJ/Hunter show.

Man, that absolutely sucks if true. You had to wonder WTF was up when Diggy was starting today. I suppose it could have been strategic – play small to combat there size. But sure seems like he’s messing with guys.
But what other chunks other than Storr could he lose? Hunter, Passmore, Griffen?
Insane if this is true. I guess that backs up the argument that Self is maybe not fitting in to the free agency era. grrr.

Bill’s lost the locker room with recruits he’s brought in
Rylan a starter on a final 4 team and comes here and can’t get minutes
Storr needed to be encouraged to go be himself but learn to play harder on D
Instead Self acts like he’s gonna tear down and rebuild him completely and neuters him just like he has every transfer since the portal
He cherishes back to the basket big men and running the offense through them
He’s not built for 2024
