@jayballer67 No clue why they haven’t already. Check every box listed unless someone will throw out some defensive metrics they claim make him look bad.
My concerns with Brice Williams are that he’d be the wing version of Yesufu here. He’s not an elite shooter so he’d probably be around 35% from the outside here. The reason I’m using Yesufu as a comparison is because looking at his game logs last season, Williams was very streaky in his scoring and was not a full time starter until the end of the season. He was an average defender at Charlotte which probably translates to below average here.
I think a slightly better version of Yesufu is probably what KU would get with Williams and he’d be soft pass for me. He’s the guy that’d be a plan C or D type player for KU right now.

He has shot the ball really really well. - -48 % from the 2 - - 43 % from the 3 and 84 % ft - not that bad at all. excellent size 6’7 would be a good 2 guard avg 13.8 ppg not that bad

The 43% from 3 was as a sophomore 2 years ago before . This past season, he was 39.5% from 3. There’s also injury concerns with Williams as he missed the entire '21-'22 season due to a knee injury. Self also will not play him at the 2 guard spot at his size, he would be a 3 here. Self is looking for transfers that can come in and start from day 1 and Williams is nice player, but not what Self and KU are looking for or need on the wing right now. If KU was looking for a bench piece to add depth, Williams would be a solid add, but when KU needs a starter who potentially score 15+ ppg at the wing spot, Williams isn’t that player.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m with @jayballer67 on this one…tape shows he’s got fame and I think he can play at this level. Maybe not option 1 but the type of player we don’t get because we wait for nba draft dropouts only to see him play well next year at a bigger program

I’m fine with not getting Brice Williams because I see too many similarities to Yesufu with him in regards to consistency. Athleticism was never Yesufu’s issue, it was being able to do it consistently and Williams game logs have a lot of similarities to Yesufu’s before he got here.

@Texas-Hawk-10 that is true I can’t argue that
You were right in Yesufu and I was wrong

Complete chaos

Weird things going on at Duke. Lively or Filipowski back?

Not anything we can do with this kid though now is there ?

@jayballer67 KU has 3 open schollys. Don’t know why they couldn’t.

would be a really good pick up. - - solid stats- - - just wonder how much interest there would be on his part ?
-
Looks like some stuff is breaking right today for KU secondary targets.
Need to get Hunter though, badly.

What would really be good if we could manage to get him and Hunter both lol

Adidas owes us one. Go get Mackenzie

The below list are guards/wings who have declared for the draft but play at mid-majors. Guys I’d put on Portal Watch:
- Elijah Pepper - UC Davis
- Jaylen Forbes - Tulane
- Tylor Perry - North Texas
- Rayj Dennis - Toledo
- Isaiah Stevens - Colorado State
- Toumani Camara - Dayton
- Alijah Martin - FAU
- Jordan Dingle - Penn
I imagine all of these guys will be told they need to go play in a P5. Some will, some won’t. But something to watch for the next 30 days.

@BShark ??

Meh, we’ll see if he’s right about what schools he might consider. The Louisville mention was LOL

Out of that list, the one’s that would intrigue me would be Pepper, Forbes, Dennis, Camara, Martin, and Dingle with Martin and Camara topping the list of those players.

Does Bossi miss?
Martin said very aggressively he would be back at FAU if he doesn’t stay in the draft.
-
@BeddieKU23 Louisville probably there because he has a relationship with Nolan smith and they can drop bags and give minutes. No way any player can look there and think they can get developed
-
@rcjhdraft said in Transfer Rumblings:
Don’t understand why we wouldn’t go after Julian Phillips if he enters the portal.
Not obtainable. Word is Auburn is the heavy favorite.
-
@BShark drop the bag Bill!
-
Totally fine with missing him, we don’t need more freshman unless he’s taking a spot of one already signed.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’m leaning this way too. I mean you take talent and make it work. But this is a weird add if we do.
I’m operating under the assumption we land Hunter though. If you don’t land Hunter and you can add a 6’8 guy who can shoot the 3 you probably do it?
If we land him, our roster construction is so weird. Bodies for days at the 4/5. But thin and weak at guard/wing.

Yeah Hunter/Mgbako feels like one or the other. Obviously you’d prefer Hunter.
Still have to get a guard and a wing/big guard.
-
@BeddieKU23 I’d usually agree, but a top 10 freshman is better than almost every transfer available. I don’t think he’ll end up at KU, but I wouldn’t rule him out just because he’s a freshman. - My personal wish list is McCullar, Dickinson and a ball handler (so not this 4 if I get my druthers) - he may end up being better than whomever ends up actually available to KU though. Who knows? I’ll root for whomever they sign.
-
Yeah mgbako is 100% a take. Way higher ceiling and talent than anyone else we’ll find at the 4 in this stage of the portal.
-
100% disagree, freshman talent has been neutralized by the transfer portal. The results speak for themselves

Bossi just posted and omg
Who are we talking about here?
-
I have no issue with the talent for Mgbako. It is the scholarship issue and roster construction. We NEED two guys who can play on the perimeter on both ends of the floor. If Cuffe isn’t leaving then I don’t know that you can’t take Mgbako without forcing out Zuby or KJ.
Can we give ourselves our scholarship back? lol.
-

In this case, I would still take Mgbako over everyone but McCullar that has been linked to KU at this point at the 4 spot.

We currently only have Marcus Adams who is a natural 3 or 4 on the roster, unless Self plans on moving KJ to the 4 or McCullar ends up coming back. If either ends up being the case, Mgbako isn’t a huge need. But if Self plans on keeping KJ at the 5 primarily and McCullarstays in tge draft, then Mgbako is a huge need for KU. That still leaves 2 spots to get a couple of bigger guards.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 All signs so far have Bill adding a 5. Dickinson or someone else.
To me that signals KJ is going to get most of his minutes at the 4. Maybe some minutes at the 5 if the ball is sticking, but mostly the 4. Word was that the staff didn’t enjoy having to play KJ at the 5. So that is sort of the lens I’m looking at this through. I could definitely end up being wrong.
-
Ingram is firmly in play now.
-
@BShark the plot thickens

I should trust who I heard it from originally more. I feel like there was a lot of public misdirection on this from Bossi and co. We’ll see what happens, as UNC is for sure involved.
-
@BShark yeah makes me wonder if he was always the primary target or if we truly had higher ambitions regarding the portal. The athleticism concerns are a good enough reason.
-
We certainly have few options at the 4 right now.
If he’s the best option, fine, he’s certainly talented enough to start as a freshman. He would be a good fit here too. I’m just scared we will start 2 freshman, as talented as they might be

I would be really happy with the two you listed - -then our 4 freshmen coming in would be very solid

If KJ plans on seeing time at the 4 - -then he has LOTS of work to do. He has to develop and outside shot and be pretty consistent with it If he can’t do that then - - he does us no good at the 4 - not that strong of rebounder at this point - so let’s hope he puts in lots of time working on a shot
