@kjayhawks Juan’s dunked on a break before. He’s got some crazy long arms that help and why he can randomly tip a few passes for steals on D. He excels defensively when he’s playing help D. One on one he can’t guard his man real well but every once in a while those pesky long arms get u a steal when we need it most.
All hail d2……(d2 after he wins his second title will stand for his two championships).
If we get Kugel or another guard or Jaxson I’m fully on board we will win it all. Top 3 offense and right around 18-21 defensive efficiency will get it done.
@Texas-Hawk-10 will cringe after all the ish he’s talked about these guys defensively being awful but then hedges his bets that even though this years team will suck more than last year they will magically go further in the tourney and potentially win the big 12 but still in his mind somehow be worse.
Show me where I said next year’s team will suck more than last year? I said next year’s team will be the worst defensive team of Bill Self era. You’re the one that’s obsessed with trying to make some stupid ass bet about KU losing in the Sweet 16 instead of the round of 32. Now read carefully because reading comprehension clearly isn’t a strength of yours because my response to you trying to make that dumb ass bet was I DON’T GIVE A SHIT IF KU LOSES IN THE SWEET 16 OR ROUND OF 32 IF THEY AREN’T MAKING THE FINAL FOUR OR WINNING A TITLE because the defense next season won’t be good enough.
This is where it really gets fun with you contradicting yourself. You keep saying Bill Self can teach these guys defense while at the same time saying Dejuan and KJ suck at defending despite being at KU under Self for 5 and 3 years respectively. Also, how did Remy’s defense improve? Was it enough for Self to trust Remy on UNC’s final possession when KU had to get a stop? It wasn’t, you say! I’m shocked that guy who never put any effort into defending stayed bad enough at defending that Bill Self trusted a true freshman who played less than 5 minutes per game more on that possession than he did Remy.

Jordan Ivy-Curry zoom call tomorrow. Perhaps a visit next week.
I like him. Had big games (and I understand volume was there) but he can score.
-
@BeddieKU23 About as good a player as you could hope to find for the role we are offering. Partially because he’s a bit of a head case. Not a guy you’d want to truly rely on but good enough to steal some games as a depth piece.
-
Yeah sounds like he’s had issues on bad teams and had a few outlier huge games against good teams (FAU, Memphis) but agree he’s a microwave kind of shooter you want off the bench.
-
@BeddieKU23 Not always starting for bad teams is telling but as long as Kugel gets here we are talking about the 9th guy. Insane depth in the portal era.
-
@BShark Our ninth guy last year was Wilder Evers lol
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Reading comprehension got it.
Let’s try this:
KJ is a good defender - bad rebounder
Juan is a bad 1 on 1 defender - great team defender always aware of see ball - see man and in position but his athletic traits besides his long arms hinder him
The reason Kj plays is his athleticism which translates on both ends which I believe Bill will pull out of Storr ect
This team will have a final 4 shot. They will not finish 6th in the big 12 and get bounced in the round of 32 cause they can score and use their athleticism to defend.
How you think they will be worse is beyond me……
-
The locked on Jayhawk podcast did a deep dive on most of the newcomers. Almost all were rated by advanced stats as below average to straight up BAD defenders. Will be an interesting season, to be sure. At least with depth there can be some real fodder for a board like this as far as who plays, where they should play, etc. Felt like this year it was just hope guys play better eventually.

Noah Shelby visiting next week
-
walk on hopefully
-
@rockchalkjayhawk The way I recall it he was amazing until an injury, after which he absolutely sucked.

Anyone know where Kadary Richmond is headed? OU? Should be an instant impact type player.

Have they closed any of their tamper targets/“locks” yet? I know they have quite a few guys rumored…

Not that I’ve seen. Heard Kadary visited UK a few days ago. He would be a good pick up for Pope

That turned out to be a glitch on 247. One of their main guys Kyle Tucker confirmed he did NOT visit.

Bama got Cliff and looks like Sears may be returning………
Bama over unc because how Oats develops guys and his style of offense versus Davis
Gonna be them loaded and get their first title

@kuballin10 See you found your new team.
-
Baylor just got a forward from miami
-
@patoh3 Original - keep up the solid contributions
If I commend any other team it’s - go cheer for that team. Oats is a complete loser….but he’s dove into the analytics of the game and trying to run it like a minor league nba preparation team which is smart as that’s all these guys want.
I have some serious connections Bama/Duke wise with past players so if you need any inside info besides paying Vernon money let me know.
That’s why it was comical when Vernon was stringing the Flagg thing along. I texted my buddy who played for coach K and he said, “he’s a silent verbal it’s over and he won’t even end up taking visits”. Few days later and it turned out to be true….

JIC down to three no KU (not surprised) or Syracuse (shocked).

Sounds like Shelby will be a Jayhawk. Question will be whether he’s on scholarship or not…

So we won’t know about Kugel until early August? That’s a long time for Shelby to sit around waiting.
-
Yikes! Certainly not a fair trade no matter what way we look at it. Less headache is all I can see perhaps

Have heard nothing along these lines. Fully expect him to be a walk on and RS.
-
Didn’t know much about Noah Shelby, so read up on him.
Weird. Former 4-star recruit, top 100 guy.
Now a junior walk on? Very weird. Something didn’t click.

One of those deals where if you’ve got a spare come fall you just let him use it for a year
-
@FarmerJayhawk I think they scramble if Kugel can’t make it, but are otherwise done. Really hope Kugel makes it. But yeah, that makes sense.
-
Will they leave a scholarship open to satisfy the penalty a year early?
-

Looks like yes
-
@BeddieKU23 I would much rather eat the scholarship penalty than have him on scholarship.
-
@kjayhawks juando dunked against WVU in 2022 and 2023. I’m pretty sure juando had a couple more gentle flushes. Wilson had one dunk that I remember off a lob from Juando against WVU in the same @ WVU game… 2022? If Wilson had ANY other in game dunks, I’d love to see a video, because I seriously do not remember any. Not that it matters, but the dude was not a jumper.
-
Damn, now Self is speaking publicly about Kugel’s chances of making it to campus. Up in the air!
That would hurt. two open scholarships if he’s out. So for sure somebody would replace him. Hopefully there are quality players still to be found.
Depth killer for sure!
-
I have heard others say , the longer this goes the they think the chances might be better he still ends up here. Could Happen Maybe ?
-
Certainly doesn’t sound promising.
-
Thoughts on Bill saying Hunter needs to just get more athletic defensively next year……???
-
Lol @kuballin10 . Translation: “we got him locked in. I can say what i want. He cannot change his athleticism significantly, we all know that. Im not a blind idiot. I know we have more athletic options this year and i will use them as i see fit.”
-
The funniest thing to me in Bill’s comments was him gassing everyone up except for when he said “and and and and Jamari McDowell is back”.
So telling!

lol I guess we have to wait and see if we just adjust to how Hunter plays the ball screen because what we did this year didn’t work

Honestly wish he’d moved on somewhere he can get real minutes…unless he plans to redshirt and go the releford route

How so? Wasn’t a star recruit, wasn’t expected to be a star in year 1 either.
-
glad Jamari is on the team, he has been a good teammate, making the most of his minutes, and you need guys like that
