@Kcmatt7 @TYOHawk New info. Sounds like the guard will only happen if a certain assistant coach isn’t retained by the new head coach at a school. Belief is said head coach wants an all new staff of his choosing. So things look good. If he portals, it’s KU.

Things are fluid and nothing is official if the right fit comes around. Both are quality players worth looking into.

@BShark Would be curious if Cuffe waits to transfer until after the barnstorming event? Not sure the amount of cash that brings these guys. Not sure if they’d be allowed to do it once already in the portal or not?
Maybe that has nothing to do with it too.

@Kcmatt7 honestly, let him IMO. Let him get the bag on his way out. Really anyone to be honest. Haven’t heard a peep about any of the departures having character issues or anything like that.

For gits and shiggles I dusted off my NCAA 2K8 game last night (they still update the rosters!) and rolled out a starting lineup of Juan/Battle/Jones/Ingram/Garrett Nelson. Boy that was fun. Not a great shooting team but absolutely unstoppable in transition and had tremendous ball movement.

@FarmerJayhawk I totally agree lol. I just don’t know if the guys have to still “be on the roster” to get their check or not. I don’t particularly understand the intricacies of the NIL stuff and if there are rules for the collectives or what.

Let’s see…couldn’t compete for extensive court time, under performed when he did play, won’t stay in the best program in the country for a coach who wants him back despite 1 and 2.

He will be going to play for one of the softest coaches around based on early rumors, so there is that.

Well there had been rumblings even before MJ stepped foot on Campus if you remember rightly that MJ had some issues , and didn’t know if he would be able to make that adjustment. Looks like those rumors were true. - - Typical cas I think like it turns out some times - -some of these kids can’t handle the adjustment. - In high school or these circuits they are THE GUY - -AND IT’S ALL ABOUT ME , ME , ME- instead of team and learning a system - learning about the total aspect of the game it’s not just about everyone stepping back give me the ball and let me show off my so called skills - - OR NOT. lol
The sad part is --MJ has skills , but I think for one he just never bought into the defensive aspect and sa we know if your not willing to play defense or at least try then Bill really doesn’t have a spot for you on the floor. - MJ is just another case where he just didn’t grasp the team aspect totally lost on the defensive end - -that I think ws one of his problems, got in Coach’s dog house and hard to get out.
I think the rel telling factor or at least one of them really hit that he was DONE was when we was just moping our 1st round opponent in the tourney and MJ didn’t put a single foot on the court for a second in the end of the game- -Hell even Jankovich got on and no MJ - that was YEP- - HE IS GONE

Well guess I’m just going to have to play the sit back and see game. I by far can’t judge talent enough - some but not to be a critic by far. - Been hearing both sides about the possibility of this kid Spencer Jones , some would be good with it0 - -others - ehhh maybe not. you got people saying that not that impressed by the possibility of taking two players from a 14-19 team
I will say he has a weird looking shot - -but I don’t give a rats ass if it goes in - -that’s good , hell he can shot put it in for all I care - - -just score. - this whole portal thing is crazy , going to be interesting to see where MJ lands. - -some people saying Self waned MJ to stay - -I’m not so sure about that , MAYBE - I mean he has got skills but just don’t think he eve bought in to the entire program

@BShark low key I think Boyton is going to turn that OSU program into something to be feared again. I think if he can just have one good season the talent will just start rolling in for him. And then it may never stop.

I’ve been thinking that too but man…he may just not have it. I think Tang is similar to Boynton plus actual coaching acumen however.

@BShark It kills me, but Tang is elite. Has a lot of Bill’s coaching traits (great set plays, timely play calls, timeouts to kill momentum). Clearly can identify and land talent. He’s going to be a headache for as long as he’s in the B12.

@dylans I would totally get why they’d want him gone. Especially in the day and age where you can turn around a program in 9 months (see Tang). But I also think he’s right on the cusp.
Maybe he needs an X’s and O’s assistant coach to get him over the hump.

Definitely needs an offensive coach that can perhaps change his style up a bit.

Yep we took a gamble and it looks like we won’t see any reward from it.
Chris Johnson is this years MJ. Perhaps not the same circumstances but Chris will likely have a hard time emotionally adjusting to Self if he hasn’t matured during his time at Montverde. That has been one of the main weaknesses pointed out by scouts etc. Bad habits tend to follow. We’ll see how he adjusts.

I mean it’s part of his identity. He made lemonade with KJ this year when Zach crapped the bed and the young bigs weren’t ready.
His problem was keeping Cam Martin for absolutely zero reason. Bill won’t bat 1.00 all the time
